681 | Who cares to discuss this verse? | Rom 8:19 | Rowdy | 115650
Although we can't understand the full depth of this chapter as it seems to be quite explosive in its implications, I do think that God and His creation show a wonderful quality. Just as the heavenly bodies show the tremendous design and beauty of His creation, they also show His wisdom and patience. I do think that here, Paul is referring to christians of all time from then to now and to the last day of this existing creation. Appreciate your digging this up and God bless. |

682 | Just brainstorming. Any lightning? | Not Specified | Rowdy | 115649
Have you ever considered how strange and inconsistent we humans tend to be? Most of us want the world on our terms when we know we didn't create it and shouldn't expect that response from the world. We want things to conform to and be consistent with the Bible so as to make sense, and rightly so. But what happens to all that nice and neatly packaged world of thinking when someone comes into our midst who's got some rough edges or corners, like John the Baptist, prophet Elijah or maybe even Apostle Paul. We don't like someone to come in with strange ideas like our Lord did; He literally turned the world right side up. We're supposed to be transformed into new creatures every day by renewing our minds in accordance with Paul. Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. We want the world to be objective about its news reporting on our TVs. We want our job evaluations to be objective so everyone is treated fairly and on a "level playing field" for promotions. We want our laws of the land to be fair and reasonable and above all objective and not subjective to one person's interpretation. BUT now, let's turn to religion and to God's Word. There we want God to answer our prayers and we want them answered in a hurry. We say "in accordance with thy will" but we rarely mean it. Because if it's God's Will that our spouse, father or mother or child really dies, then all is lost and we tend to give up on God or at the very least, we question His judgment. We can't even agree on what it takes to please God and assure ourselves a reservation in Heaven. Our Lord prayed earnestly for unity in the last few words He spoke on this earth, and yet we fight and bicker over the most immature things in our world, just like our kids. Yes, God's world is filled with conundrums. It's difficult enough just for us to figure ourselves out and then we're faced with figuring out what God wants us to do. (Well, I guess you've probably figured me out by now...I'm just venting, like we all do sometimes.) Couldn't you use a vacation from this planet? Sometimes, I think I would have made a great Captain Kirk but then I was born about 3 centuries too early. What might be your thoughts on the matter? Come back. God bless. |

684 | Who is Saul? | 1 Sam 11:13 | Rowdy | 115646
Just insanely curious: How did you get the wrong impression that Saul or Apostle Paul was ever a Roman centurian? Thanks for the reply.
685 | What is the "reward" ? | Mark 9:41 | Rowdy | 115645
Got posted to the wrong thread: It seems the only reward He could be referring to would be that of Heaven. You'll notice he's been talking about that subject in a round about way in verse 35. Why else would such humble men such as these give up all they had to follow Jesus for 3 and 1 half years? Apparently, Peter even left his wife and family if he had any. Throughout most of Jesus' ministry this kind of thinking usually dominated their thoughts just like it would you and me if we had been there. God bless. |

686 | From what are we ransomed? | Mark 10:45 | Rowdy | 115633
Luk 2:36 There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, 37and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. 38Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. Matt 20:25 Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- 28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Rom 6:22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. 23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Jer 51:6 "Flee from Babylon! Run for your lives! Do not be destroyed because of her sins. It is time for the LORD's vengeance; he will pay her what she deserves. Rom 3:21 But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished-- 26he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. 27Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. 28For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law. 29Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, 30since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. 31Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law. After reading the above, we must conclude: God has an absolute perfect sense of justice. And that justice MUST be adhered to so Jesus was the perfect sacrifice as foreshadowed by the Law of Moses and its system of imperfect sacrifices. Without the blood of Christ covering our sins, we have to face God's judgment and reap the full wages of our sins, eternal death of our spirits, being separated from God, sentenced to Hell forever. In that respect, Satan owns our souls as he takes us with him to Hell UNLESS we have Christ as our redeemer. Redemption is part of God's Plan of Salvation so that Christ literally pays the ransom for us on that cross. God bless all who study and obey God's Word. |

687 | Word Study ... done away - cease | 1 Cor 13:8 | Rowdy | 115496
Yes, I do believe that Paul was predicting the demise or the slow disappearance of miraculous powers in favor of the written Word in our Bibles. BUT just in case there are those that don't see it that way, we should agree on the definition of just what a miracle is. The miracles in the Bible are always depicted as something supernatural, something that goes against the laws of nature, something that is so fantastic it can't be explained any other way. For example: restoration of life to a dead body, gift of sight to a grown person born blind, restoration of a limb after being cut off, all of these w/o medical procedures or mechanical devices. Then we're talking about clear-cut, undeniable miracles manifested by human beings. Otherwise, we're talking about miracles manifested from God directly to the recipient, right? What is your opinion? God bless. |

688 | what does slain in the spirit mean? | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 115491
I cranked those two key words, slain and spirit and came up with one single verse as follows: Rev 5:6 And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God, sent out into all the earth. It doesn't seem to match or even come close to satisfying your query but these search engines are great aren't they? You should give them a try; it's to the right of your screen. |

690 | How world began? | Gen 1:1 | Rowdy | 115486
The website apologeticspress.com has a very good series of lessons contrasting to great detail, questions and answers on this very subject. They cover all the different evolutionary theories and the factual account as reflected in Genesis. I plan to lead an adult class, starting in Apr 04, in discussing this topic and other evidences of Christianity. I'm hoping it's going to be as interesting as the website from which I get this information. God bless.

693 | Who is Saul? | 1 Sam 11:13 | Rowdy | 115449
I'm not sure of your message or response. Are you trying to retract your statement about the Apostle Paul being a Roman centurian? Please confirm one way or the other. IF you are still in support of that original statement, I'd like to see what credible evidence you have to support it. Certainly nothing in the Bible could possibly be used to support such a position. God bless. |

694 | Get'g the right message from our Bibles? | Not Specified | Rowdy | 115446
Just got this very interesting article by E-Mail from a good friend and thought I would share. It asks some very probing questions. Be sure to notice the scripture in support. God bless all who study and obey God's Word. IS CHRIST OUR CENTRAL FOCUS? We have scrutinized the Bible to the point that we have it all laid out in reasonable and logical principles. We have dismantled it into theological sections. We have made it an answer book to life's problems and a cure-all for what emotionally and mentally bothers us. It has become a manual filled with instructions on how to live. It provides us with principles that will guide us into God's favor, thus insuring us of His presence and power. Manfred Haller writes: "If you want to know what is in an automobile, the parts it contains and how it was constructed, disassemble it. Just do not try to drive the disassembled vehicle, though, because it won't move an inch. It will have lost all its power, functionality and any purpose it had. All the components belonging to a complete automobile will be lying before you, but it is still not a car. Dissected truths are no longer spiritual truths; they are ineffective, lifeless theorems." "You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life." (John 5:39-40) Could it be that most Christians have a love affair with the Bible rather than with Jesus? The Scriptures are VITAL! Scriptures reveal Jesus! If we are in love with Jesus then why is it we dismantle the Bible into theological opinions, then talk about those segregated segments with more excitement, interest and intensity than we talk about Jesus Himself? We even form fortresses around our opinions and call them churches. If we can form alliances we call them denominations. Jesus is not our rallying cry! Is this why the Christian community is having a diminishing influence on our cultural direction? "Begin seeing Christ behind everything. When you finally understand that Christ is everything you need, then you will have become truly Christocentric. Then will you share with the Father the most precious thing He has - His Son. Christ will become your only perspective, your only hope, your only possession, and your only interest. Everything else will fade into insignificance." (MANFRED HALLER- "CHRIST AS ALL IN ALL") For example, we normally present the Gospel as a message of repentance from sin. If we want to go to heaven and miss out on hell then we need to ask for forgiveness. If we want a meaningful and purposeful life, we need God's grace. He will give us forgiveness, redemption, and life everlasting. God has a wonderful plan for our life. Note; the paragraph above has man as God's central focus. Jesus is God's central focus. Everything happens through Jesus, by Jesus, and for Jesus. Christ and Christ alone transforms people, the results of this transformation do not save people only Jesus Christ saves. We seem to focus on the transformation rather than Christ Himself. "The New Testament gospel begins and ends with Jesus Christ. Christ Himself is the gospel. The gospel in a single pronouncement is, "he who has the Son has life!' Another one like it is, "if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. …The gospel calls men and women to believe in Christ. This means acceptance that God has placed Him in the center, that God will judge us on our relationship to Christ, that our present and our future depends on our kinship with Him." (MANFRED HALLER) We place too much emphasis on the results Christ brings about that we inadvertently present a gospel of works rather than a gospel focused on Christ Himself. Jesus is not coming to gather a brood of cloned replicas that do as He did. When Jesus returns He is coming to receive the Body, the Church, the Vessel through which He will express the fullness of His deity. Written by Terry Jarbo |

696 | Study Bible Forum or Bible Philosophy | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 115417
Please Gentlemen, let me apologize yet again for causing this controversy. I'm hoping you've noticed in some of my more recent posts to the Forum, I've been trying to cite more scriptures in support of my statements, especially when the discussion DOES NOT center around those proverbial Why questions. But in my defense of my original position, I still anticipate the "surging well" within my soul will cause me to continue to look for and answer those topics with the Why question in their background. So, I can only say, I have been humbled at least somewhat by all these posts from you all and for that I'm thankful. Now, Hank, I must follow up on the few challenges I've issued recently WITH scriptures to back them up. I've not seen your responses to those challenges and would appreciate your sharing your wisdom and experience with us on them. The posts I'm talking about are 114616 and 114930. I have a few more I've been "roasting" in my little brain and hope to have them posted soon. See ya and God bless. |

697 | Who is Saul? | 1 Sam 11:13 | Rowdy | 115416
Where in the Bible (or the world for that matter) could you possibly get such a story about the Apostle Paul. The latter half of Acts is devoted to the ministry of Paul. In Chapter 22, Paul gives a brief biographical sketch of his life. AND please notice NO ONE else in the NT contests this description of Paul's life OR his credenitals in ANY of the other Epistles of the NT. It's very, VERY difficult to believe you have any concrete proof to support statement but I'd be interested in hearing about it. I can only hope that God will bless you by opening your eyes to the truth as provided in His Word. |

698 | Which Mat 18 verse are you referring to | Matt 19:9 | Rowdy | 115367
I've scanned this thread and I think the verses you're looking for are from Chapter 18, verses 15-17. But the most important feature of this procedure as laid out by our Lord is the condition of the sinner's soul as made plain in Gal 6:1-10. Now, there's one more priority that MUST supercede that of the individual's soul as reflected above. That is the overall condition of the whole of God's family. This was made plain in the OT as cited below. Josh 7:23 They took them from inside the tent and brought them to Joshua and to all the sons of Israel, and they poured them out before the LORD. 24 Then Joshua and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the mantle, the bar of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent and all that belonged to him; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor. 25 Joshua said, "Why have you troubled us? The LORD will trouble you this day." And all Israel stoned them with stones; and they burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones. 26 They raised over him a great heap of stones that stands to this day, and the LORD turned from the fierceness of His anger. Therefore the name of that place has been called the valley of Achor to this day. This kind of priority is further endorsed in the well known stories of Ananias and Sapphira, Acts 5 and the sin of incest in 1 Cor 5. You see, God loves all of His creation but He also hates sin and cannot tolerate "sin in the camp." For God's children to allow continued sin in God's family only causes that sin to fester, spread and destroy the whole group. God bless. |

Apparently they went with the Lord and the one thief to Paradise, the waiting place for those following God's guidance in their lives while here on earth. Where do you think they went? I pray that God blesses your Bible study and your answer. |
