641 | Please clarify: Word vs. word | Luke 1:3 | Rowdy | 116337
I'm not really clear on this topic of the word vs. the Word. Could you define each one for me? Thanks and God bless.
642 | where is the holy spirit | Ps 139:7 | Rowdy | 116333
I'm just in agreement with you. None of us know for certain how this Trinity thing works both ways. Our earthly mathematics just don't add up but we'll get re-educated in Heaven. Hope to see ya there. God bless.
643 | Why Matthew is "introduced" late... | Luke 1:3 | Rowdy | 116332
Thanks, you make a good point. I do think we can be assured we do in fact definitely have the whole Word of God. We may not be certain as to the details of how It got here but I'm convinced God has sanctified and protected His Word over the centuries. God bless. |

644 | Last part of Jonah | Jon 4:10 | Rowdy | 116325
In addition to Sir Pent's excellent post, I'd like to add the Lord's commentary from the famous parable, The Prodical Son from Luke. Luke 15:25 "Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27'Your brother has come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.' 28"The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29But he answered his father, 'Look! All these years I've been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!' 31" 'My son,' the father said, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.'" You see the Israelite nation had developed a rather "exclusive" relationship with God, or at least in their mind, it was exclusive. They didn't want to share any of the benefits/blessings of God with the rest of the world of gentiles; that includes most all of us. God from the beginning intended to bless the whole world with the ultimate benefit of salvation with His Son's sacrifice. That's made pretty plain with curse on the serpent in the Garden of Eden. But of course, the Jewish nation got rather hooked on this feeling of superiority and wanted the Messiah to lead them to conquer their whole world and be their physical king here on earth. So we can see some correlation between God's handling of Jonah and the way the Prodical Son's father treated his older son. God bless. |

645 | Why Matthew is "introduced" late... | Luke 1:3 | Rowdy | 116321
The following is cited for reference: Luke 1:1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, 3 it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus; 4 so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught. We have to remember that these men, writers of the NT were human, inspired yes by the Holy Spirit. But I have no problem believing that they would each "interview" the different apostles and disciples and get as full accounting of the facts as they possibly could. I think the Holy Spirit helped them realize when someone was adding/fabricating or misrepresenting themselves. Some small bits of history they may have even discarded in accordance with the guidance from the Holy Spirit. What do you think? Especially about this passage in Luke? God bless. |

646 | where is the holy spirit | Ps 139:7 | Rowdy | 116319
I guess I have to agree with both of you. Like it's been cited in the discussion, there are verses that clearly depict these 3 beings as separate and distinct. Then there are other verses throughout the Bible like as in the creation of man in "our image." So the bottom-line conclusion is the very quandry that befuddles all mankind. The Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Ghost ARE very definitely distinct and separate from each other. AND they are just as definitely one, a complete whole with each other. There is no perfect understanding of this as there's no one passage that I could cite to support this conclusion. It's just fact as far as I'm concerned. The actual "how" and "why," we will have to wait until we get to Heaven to find out the answers to those questions. God bless you both for bringing a fine job of proving this point. |

647 | Where does it say that? | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 116309
I can't think of a verse that actually cites faith as preceding repentance but in the verses below, it's very difficult to imagine inserting repentance between faith and hearing the Word. Rom 10:16 However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?" 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. Again, I can't think of a passage that actually depicts baptism as "a commitment made to God" but I think the verses below do an adequate job of proving the same point. Luke 14, The Cost of Being a Disciple 25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple. 27And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. 28"Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it? 29For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule him, 30saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.' 31"Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple. NOTE: No one on the Forum has met my challenge to prove there's any one single all conclusive example of a person being saved in the Bible with every single step clearly defined. I'll agree it's difficult to meet the challenge because it's not there. Thus, we are forced to do some simple reasoning and put together some kind of logical sequence BUT I am certainly open to discussing this topic. We've already discussed the first three steps above: 1) Hear 2) Believe and 3) Repent The only steps left are: 4) confess the name of Jesus as your Lord and Savior in accordance with Rom 10:9-10 and 5) Be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost as cited in Acts 2:38. It's quite possible that confession could precede repentance so you see we're just trying to be thorough just like we have to be when we prepare to make an appearance in court. Again, I really am looking forward to discussing this topic with anyone on the Forum. God bless you all. |

648 | How did Christ survive his beating? | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 116308
I'm convinced only Jesus could have possibly endured ALL of what He went through, the beating, the trial and the crucifixtion. I don't think even Samson or ANY other strong man on this earth at ANY other time could have lasted as long as Jesus. I think Gibson tried to depict this in his movie but of course the movie couldn't accurately portray exactly what all He endured as the real thing was far worse, but Gibson gave it his best shot. I'm also convinced that Jesus was only able to do all this because He was and still is God. Good, thought provoking questions, what do you think? God bless. |

649 | Was the flood global or regional? | Gen 7:17 | Rowdy | 116288
The following is cited for reference: Gen 7:17 Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 18 The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered. 20 The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. 21 All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 22 of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 23 Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. I guess a person could read and interpret this passage a couple of different ways but it surely seems clear to me. It seems especially emphatic that so much water covered the planet that every form of life that was NOT in the Ark died. That alone, to me means a tremendous amount of water coverd all the mountains on this planet. Where did all this water come from? Verse 11 says the water came out of the "foundations of the deep." That and the melted ice from the polar caps I would think would be enough to cover the whole planet. But I'd still be interested in your opinion. God bless. |

650 | What is human nature? | Prov 14:12 | Rowdy | 116279
In contrast to the scripture above, our Lord has far higher and better thoughts for us as follows: John 5:24 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. Our world is physical and finite; His world is spiritual and infinite. We (God and humans) have as much in common as we do with the ants at our feet. Our priorities are different or at the very least our priorities are inclined to be far less worthy of praise and glory whereas every thought, every fiber of His being is glorious and praiseworthy. We're inclined to take the easy way out and to be impatient when it doesn't work out. In contrast our Lord created the world perfectly in 7 days only to watch mankind destroy it over the next several thousand years. Human nature suggests what we are naturally inclined to say and do and it rarely coincides with what God would say and do. Good questions and God bless. |

651 | does god know everything in the future? | Is 53:1 | Rowdy | 116215
He not only knew it; He promised it as shown below: Gen 3:14 The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life; Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel." The main purpose in keeping the Jewish bloodline pure was to keep the people ready for the birth of His Son. The books of the prophets, especially Isaiah is full of prophecies on the life, ministry, death, burial and resurrection of His Son; check Is 53. Yes, our God knows all and is everywhere all the time yet He allows our freedom of choice as shown in the Garden of Eden. God bless. |

652 | Something positive from the Movie | Not Specified | Rowdy | 116209
Just got another fantastic E-Mail from my friend, which I just had to share. Hope you think so too. Interesting............ The Passion of Christ is Rated R The "R" of course is because of the violence, the gore. In movie terms "R" stands for RESTRICTED, but in this movie "R" stands for RELEVANT, for REALISTIC, for it REALLY happened for a REASON because we were REBELLIOUS we needed a REDEEMER, we needed to be RECONCILED, we needed to be RECOVERED, we needed to be REGENERATED. Jesus needed to be REJECTED so that we could have a RELATIONSHIP not just a RELIGION. The "R" is to REMIND us to REMEMBER what Jesus did to REMOVE our sin to RENDER Satan powerless, to RESCUE us from eternity in hell. The "R" rating is to show that Jesus was RESPONSIBLE for giving you REST. As a RESULT of his death Jesus RETIRED your debt. The "R" rating means that some will be REPULSED, some will REFUSE to believe, some will be RELUCTANT, some will think you are RIDICULOUS in believing that a death was REQUIRED. The "R" rating means that the RESULT of sin has been REVERSED and now through faith in Christ your REWARD is eternity and you are now RIGHTEOUS before God because you have RECEIVED him as the RULER of your soul. What a REVOLUTIONARY and RADICAL solution to REDEEM mankind. God bless all who see the movie AND see what they've studied come to life. Rowdy |

654 | Can sickness ever be part of Gods will? | Job | Rowdy | 116208
I gather from the book of Job that God is NOT the source of the pain and suffering or disease in this world but He does allow it to exist as in Job's story. The main reason for all this misery in the world is so we WON'T get hooked on this world but instead look forward to the Home we have waiting for us in Heaven. I'm convinced since God is spiritual and our inner essence is spiritual, he wants us to reach the point of maturity that we actually look forward to going to this Home in Heaven, ALTHOUGH He wants us to wait for His timing. I also don't think there's anyone left on earth from the 1st century having miraculous powers of healing, speaking in tongues, etc. because all those powers died with the Apostles and the ones on whom they laid their hands. Those gifts were ushered into this world for one express purpose as follows: Acts 14:2 But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. 3So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs and wonders. 4The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, others with the apostles. This statement of mine SHOULD NOT be taken to mean that I DON'T believe in miracles directly from God through prayer as you've mentioned, for I do believe. HOWEVER, we must accept God's Will when we don't get the answer for which we're looking. Above all, we MUST pray that our will comes to closer and closer alignment with God's Will. Then, we truly will find peace. Good questions and God bless. |

655 | Be real our self and self value. | Luke 18:13 | Rowdy | 116164
The single best example I can think of to show us what God is truly after is shown in the contrast between King Saul and King David. We see God's treatment of Saul in 1 Sam 15:21 "But the people took some of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the choicest of the things devoted to destruction, to sacrifice to the LORD your God at Gilgal." 22 Samuel said, "Has the LORD as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. 23 "For rebellion is as the sin of divination, And insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king." but for David, God feels differently as we see in Acts 13:21 "Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22 "After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, 'I HAVE FOUND DAVID the son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY HEART, who will do all My will.' 23 "From the descendants of this man, according to promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, So what is the real contrast we are to see here? Remember, both these men were sinful but David was truly repentant and tried to do his best. He was humble and willing to submit to God's chistisement. For example: He readily accepted God's decision that he not build the temple but he helped get some of the material together so his son, Solomon could build it. So our God wants His people to realize their position in the world: we are the creation, the creature and He is the One and only Creator. We only have His Grace and Love that allows us to hope we have a Home in Heaven. We are merely vessels thru which God's light might shine if we will allow It. There's absolutely nothing you and I could possibly do to earn this noble reward. All we can do is to comply with God's instructions and hope and pray that we meet His qualifications when we reach Judgment Day. So you see, in the final view, our self value is not worth much. That's not to say we should end our lives; only God should do that. BUT we MUST see the order of things/values in God's eyes. God bless. We must do everything in our power to practice, practice, practice Godliness here on earth and wait for Him to call us home. But we must do this practicing with God's attitude of love and compassion for our fellow man but love and devotion to our God and Father. God bless all those who study and obey God's Word. |

656 | Did Jesus have any siblings? | Matt 12:46 | Rowdy | 116159
In my mind, this is the most authoritative verse making it plain Jesus had a physical family here on earth. Matt 12:46 While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him. 47 Someone said to Him, "Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You." 48 But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?" 49 And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold My mother and My brothers! 50 "For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother." We don't hear of His family (other than His mother at the cross) again until the book of James. Apparently, then His brother became a christian after Jesus' death, burial and resurrection. God bless. |

657 | How would you describe Solomon | 2 Sam 12:24 | Rowdy | 116120
In a word: The wisest yet most foolish man whoever lived upon the earth. Personally, I think the human mind can't handle that much wisdom (almost Godly in its amount) without the similar Godly ability to handle it. How would you describe Solomon? God bless.

660 | What is the "reward" ? | Mark 9:41 | Rowdy | 115983
I accept your position but I can't put any faith in the rapture or premillenialism either one w/o much proof from God's Word. I would only encourage you and all others to put your faith in Christ first and foremost and put very little faith into these two questionable features of the movement. That way hopefully, I'll see you all in Heaven. God bless.
