141 | knowledge of good and evil | Gen 3:1 | Rowdy | 123327
Naturally I assume you're referring to Adam and Eve and I would have to conclude from the first two chapters that they DO NOT have such knowledge. I guess they could be compared to a small child before he has learned about right and wrong. We notice that God is on a very intimate, face-to-face basis of relationship with them, therefore there is no trace of sin in their lives prior to this point. Seem pretty straight forward to me. Is there any question in your mind about their condition? God bless. --Rowdy |

142 | HOW to renew mind | Rom 12:2 | Rowdy | 123325
I'd say the following verses would be a good start Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. 9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; 18praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- 19and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. The actual process of putting this guidance above from God into our lives as His children should keep your mind pretty actively engaged for quite a while. I hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

143 | God and gods? | Matt 11:11 | Rowdy | 123321
Greetins Following Him, Having just read your post, along with Hank's, Tim's and Zsuzsi and at least a good portion of the other posts on this thread, I felt "inspired" to throw in my two cents worth. After you get mine and Hank's age, a person begins to show an ocassional spot of frustration now and again. Although we may talk like and try to imitate God and His Perfect level of Love, it's tough for most humans to even come close to that standard. Along with that love, we're also commanded to take a "tough love" approach with false teachers and others when they refuse to believe in the basic truth as exhibited in the Bible. You might want to refer to Jesus' Words in Matt 7:6 Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces. Now I agree, the tough part in this scripture is figuring out who are the dogs or the pigs but at least you see where I'm going with this post. I'd be the last person in the world to call another human being a pig or a dog in the sense of the verse above but I'd also be one of the first to agree that the ideas and views as promoted by the cults such as discussed here are and should be treated as worse than dogs, maybe even vermin. So we're going to strive for God's love but please understand we are all human and we'll continue to make mistakes, stumble and fall. As long as we get back up and re-attempt our struggle to get back to God, following Peter's lead instead of Judas, we're doing good. I might add, when a Forum user doesn't show his profile long after he finds out how to complete it, naturally it raises our suspicious nature. I hope this helps you understand a little better. God bless. --Rowdy |

144 | Connection between Daniel 9:11 and US? | Dan 9:11 | Rowdy | 123320
This is really the most preposterous idea I've seen in a long while. Hopefully, you are aware that division of the Bible into chapter and verses didn't take place until late in the Medevil Period of the world, possibly as late as the 1300s. That's thousands of years after Daniel was written. No, my friend, whatever possible link between the attack in NY City date and the Bible is purely coincidental. For example: Why would you want to limit to Daniel? Why not Isaiah or Revelation? Sorry, but I do hope you don't waste most of your time looking for this kind trivial trash, do you? God bless. --Rowdy |

145 | God and gods? | Matt 11:11 | Rowdy | 123287
Good post. My only addition would be just a reminder as I'm sure you'll agree. Everything we do on the Forum MUST be done with the God like love we see from our Father and exhibited in our Bibles. We must do this so as to emphasize to our participants and readers that the souls of everyone come first and foremost. With this proper emphasis, we may HOPE some of the Jehovah's Witnesses folks might come around and be converted to true Lord and Savior of this world. God bless. --Rowdy |

147 | "Least in the kingdom of God"? | Matt 11:11 | Rowdy | 123281
I thought it might be helpful if I copied one of my previous posts to Miss JW. If you're interested in following the chain of thought in the thread, the Post No is 121627. Miss JW, Apparently you and the others of your faith are getting a lot of heat because of your background. I thought I'd try to help you and some others get to the actual root cause of all the controversy. You see, here at the Study Bible Forum, ALL of us believe in ALL of the Bible and the Bible's most emphatic point to us modern earth dwellers in this century is that Jesus Christ is the Living God in charge of this world. He came to this planet of sinful man for the express purpose of saving the souls of ALL mankind, past, present and future with His Perfect sacrifice of His own sinless body and life. IF a person come to the SBF to discuss and exchange views and ideas about all the above, it MUST be done WITH the acknowledgement of that previous statement being ABSOLUTE TRUTH. If we can't get that acknowledgement up front in advance from such a person, everything else is valueless and not really worthy of discussion by anyone, at least to those on the Forum. Now, I myself had absolutely nothing to do with drafting up the rules to the Forum but I try to abide by them. I know Hank and some of the others don't like it when I fail to cite book, chapter and verse when I make a statement but that's because I've cited it before in a previous post. Anyway, we ALL from an early age in life learn that we must play by the rules when we join an organization. Now your decision is really quite simple: either acknowledge the ABSOLUTE TRUTH of the statements above or refrain from posting statements of your own to the Forum. That of course DOES NOT mean that you can't read and enjoy the posts you see on the Forum. Also some of the folks on the Forum cite their own E-Mail address so you could attempt to communicate directly with them in that manner. Now the basic reason for this rigid requirement is simply to keep the Forum in some semblance of order and you know we're commanded to do that, 1 Cor 14:40. Without giving Christ His due according to His Last Will and Testament, we ALL do Him a serious dishonor and we would have to pay dearly for such an infraction at Judgment Day. There's one more subject of interest: Cults. There's been several questions back and forth about this and of course the word means different things to different people. But the one basic thing that it means to Forum participants is that a person who refuses to acknowledge the truth of Jesus as cited above would be considered to be a member of a cult. Now I realize that probably doesn't please you but I'm afriad that's a fact that's well reconized throughout the vast majority of Christendom. I do sincerely hope this clarifies the whole matter for you and the other participants of your faith. I really wish no ill toward you or anyone else. I'm afraid that's just the way things are done here at the Forum. I also pray God will bless you as you study Him AND His Son in His Word. Maintain an open mind AND an open heart to His Will. Pray often about this subject. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

148 | Where does membership come from? | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 123274
If I might interject here, the best scripture I can think of is from Peter as follows 1 Pet 5:1 The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 2Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. 5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." 6Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10But may[4] the God of all grace, who called us[5] to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. This should be clear enough without any comment from anyone, least of all, me. God bless. --Rowdy |

149 | Where does membership come from? | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 123269
I can only suggest your re-reading all of my posts on this thread. You seem to have missed my most important bottom line conclusion. The way I see God's Word, He doesn't give us an option. Either we become a part of the actual devoted, hard working christian we know we should be or we might not make it to Heaven. It's my conclusion that if we're not fruitful in the "Lord's vineyard," He'll cut us off as being unproductive and cast us in the everlasting fires of Hell. I do hope you'll continue studying and praying on this subject. This is NOT just merely important...it's crucial to our salvation. God bless. --Rowdy |

150 | God and gods? | Matt 11:11 | Rowdy | 123268
I have to agree, dear friend. These situations on the Forum should be handled in the very same way as Jesus commands in Matt 18 when we have a dispute. The single most important thing we should be displaying to everyone, especially ALL Forum participants is the Love of God. Unconditional love of the sinner (not his sin) and be gentle and kind in our handling of his problem. Thanks for the reminder. I do hope a large no of people see your statement. Maybe you could post a separate statement for everyone's benefit. God bless. --Rowdy |

151 | Where does membership come from? | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 123265
It sounds to me like you're mixed up with the wrong group of folks who don't practice God's Word. In our congregation and in several congregations around the city, we have elders and deacons who take their job very, very seriously. Elders and deacons are selected in strict accordance with the guidance in Titus and 1 Tim, then they execute their duties with much prayer and forethought. The elders shepard the flock with a great deal of concern for their physical welfare AND their spiritual growth. Most of the deacons follow and submit themselves to their respective elders per congregation and devote themselves to prayer and following God's Word. Every once in a while, a small problem might show up and we deal with it at the lowest level possible before we follow Jesus procedure for elevating the situation as cited in Matt 18. I'd be the first to admit there's not enough discipline going on in the Lord's church but the biggest root cause of that is the vast and wide spread lack of Bible knowledge throughout the church in today's fast paced world. My bottom line recommendation to you is to keep looking for the Lord's church in your community. I'm sure you'll find such a group but if you're positive that none meet your standards, send me your personal E-Mail address so I can send you a list for your area (or I'll send mine). Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy PS: I was just installed as a deacon a couple of weeks ago so I would solicit your prayers for my growth in wisdom as I'll need it. |

I assume the Forum Watchers will be making short work of Mr. Ralph2. It's tragic that he's not willing to see the wisdom exhibited on this Forum and resolve to just behave. I'm assuming that a flyer or some sort of correspondence has been issued to the Watchtower Society so as to spread the word and not waste our time. Is there any way to check and see if that can be done? Um, I wonder. God bless. --Rowdy |

153 | I Tim 2:12 Paul's opinion or God's Word? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Rowdy | 123255
Like you say, when Paul is giving guidance that is only coming from him WITHOUT the Holy Spirit's sponsoring, he says so very clearly but in the Epistle to Timothy, he's very plain and straight forward. There's no room for interpretation. 1 Tim 2:9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15 But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. I realize this is one of the reasons why so many folks, especially our ladies think Paul was chavenistic in his thinking but we must remember, it wasn't Paul but it's God that's giving these commands. God is doing here the same He's done throughout the whole Bible. Women have always "taken the back seat" or "played second fiddle" in God's World. He made women the weaker vessel and he made the men of the world to take the lead in all things, especially those in the spiritual world, including His Son's church and the worship assemblies. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

154 | Hindered Prayer / wall of sin | Bible general Archive 2 | Rowdy | 123248
It sounds to me as if both of you are fairly mature and you probably know the scriptures fairly well. I would suggest both of you going to a large christian bookstore and both of you pick out books on your favorite subject. In this case, I would assume both of you would pick out books on prayer but the key here is for both of you to spend some time together and read the books, one chapter at a time. I would suggest your taking turns reading aloud, one to the other and then discuss what you like best about that chapter. Eventually, you will discover the scripture you're looking for but more importantly you'll re-discover how important prayer is to a Godly couple such as yourselves. I say this because when my wife and I went through Marriage Encounter, it was one of the best things we ever did for our marriage and this technique was taught there. I sincerely hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

155 | Where does membership come from? | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 123244
I've noticed there's quite a few posts lodged on this thread, so maybe you've missed some or all of mine. Their numbers are 123115, 123150 and 123194. You can find any post by inserting this no in the Quick Search in the upper right corner of your screen or in this case, just look for my name on the thread. In my posts, I've cited several scriptures, the sum total of which, clearly indicate God wants us to be a vital, genuine and hard working member under the leadship of the elders appointed to lead that particular congregation. If we find a congregation that IS following God's Word, then it's up to us as submissive and obedient children of God to humble ourselves and submit to their leadership. If you don't agree with some of the things they're doing AND they're available for discussion as items the NT allows for options, then maybe you can influence a "wave" of change. But this is usually done only after you've invested some time and effort into the congregation showing your willingness to be an active part of that group of christians. If you're not an actual, devoted member of the hard-working bunch of christians in a particular congregation but prefer to stay on the periphery or the outer edge of that group, then you get what's coming to you, which is a reflection of what you put into it. If on Judgment Day, you are still in this condition, the Lord might question your true loyalty to Him and He might hesitate to confess your name to His Father as being one of His, but of course that's between you and God. You see, we're suppose to draw nearer and nearer to God and He will draw nearer to us. We're also supposed to grow and take on more responsibilities and develop our talents as cited in Jesus' parables. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

156 | who can explain to me? | John 1:1 | Rowdy | 123220
From grammatical viewpoint, the only way to understand this concept is to acknowledge that Jesus IS God. He IS the Word of God and He (Jesus) came to this earth to live and die among us mankind so He could emphathize with His Father's creation as High Priest of this dispensation. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

157 | God and gods? | Matt 11:11 | Rowdy | 123215
So now my curiostiy is aroused by reading all these posts, yours, Tim's and others. Do you or do you not acknowledge and confirm the full deity of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of this world in whom is the ONLY way of getting out of this world and go Home to Heaven? Simple question? Simple answer needed? I pray that you can answer and come on Home to your Father in Heaven. God bless. --Rowdy |

158 | Does God want the NT or OT reflected? | Matt 22:40 | Rowdy | 123209
As I see it, one of the most important jobs we have here on earth is to reflect God's Will and His Word in the way we live our lives as christians, His children, disciples of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Some people may never open a Bible in their lifetime with the serious intent of reading It, studying It or obey It. So the Lord charges christians with that responsibility. What I'm saying with this post, we should put emphasis on reflecting the NT in preference to the OT as God has given His Son the preiminance in this dispensation, as cited in Matt 28. Thanks for the question. Did you have further questions/comments about my post? God bless. --Rowdy |

I too would urge you to stop the name calling. There really is no place for it on the Forum and I would also like to see your background/profile. If you would like to do so, go to the link, Update User Info on the lower left corner of your screen and update it. It's great to know some details of your background, your experiences. Just in case you need to know, if you wish to see mine or someone else's profile, double click on their name when it's red and underlined. God bless. --Rowdy PS: Whatever it is in Emmaus that you're mistaking for bigotry is not from him. He is merely reflecting what the Bible says as he is overflowing with much knowledge about God's Word. |

160 | sermon ideas for preaching rev.2:18-29 | Revelation | Rowdy | 123200
I myself haven't preached on this subject but I heard a sermon on this topic but the preacher covered all 7 letters just briefly. His position with which I agree was that all 7 letters represent in a broad general manner all of the different responses from our Lord to all the many different congregations throughout all of time, past, present and future. From this one letter, one can only point out the obvious warning against idolatry and false teaching. One should also emphasize staying faithful to our first love, Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of His beloved church, His bride. Rev 2:18 "And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze, says this: 19 'I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first. 20 'But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 'I gave her time to repent, and she does not want to repent of her immorality. 22 'Behold, I will throw her on a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds. 23 'And I will kill her children with pestilence, and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds. 24 'But I say to you, the rest who are in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not known the deep things of Satan, as they call them--I place no other burden on you. 25 'Nevertheless what you have, hold fast until I come. 26 'He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, TO HIM I WILL GIVE AUTHORITY OVER THE NATIONS; 27 AND HE SHALL RULE THEM WITH A ROD OF IRON, AS THE VESSELS OF THE POTTER ARE BROKEN TO PIECES, as I also have received authority from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star. 29 'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.' I would go ahead and preach what the Lord has to say about the other six churches. In one way or another, we all can see ourselves as individuals or as congregations and apply the instructions as needed. Sometimes this involves taking heed of the instructions from one or more and act accordingly. I take great comfort in the fact that these first 3 chapters of Revelation is not filled with so much figurative symbolism and we can take these letters to the 7 churches (congregations) to heart. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |
