2661 | The need of a Shepherd and Master | 2 Chr 18:16 | Ray | 17953
I have just completed a study of 2 Chronicles forwards and backwards one might say, and have found a possible key verse right in the middle. What do you think? I will add my interpretation through capitalization. "I saw all Israel Scattered on the mountains, Like sheep which have no Shepherd; And the Lord said, 'These have no Master. Let each of them return to his house in peace.'" |

2662 | What does Ephesians 2:6-7 mean? | John 17:24 | Ray | 17822
Hi Bobbie Faye, I spoke to ibelieve about how I perceived him to give more glory to ourselves than we have. He implied glory to us as being seated at the right hand, and seemed to say that we individually have more power than He had. He said that He "gives this glory to us...when we are still on earth". What I was saying is that Col 3:1 doesn't say that we are seated at the right hand of God, but that Christ is. And that Christ is all, and in all, verse 11. I didn't deny that we are in Christ, nor did I say that we don't have eternal life right now. I simply wanted him to see Him at the right hand. Even though we are raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, (Col 2:12) our lives are hidden with Christ in God. Col 3:4, "When Christ, who is our life /Life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory." ***In other words, Christ left this world to be with the Father, we are still here in the world but not of it, later to be revealed with Him in glory. Col 2:13, "When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our tansgressions..." It is the same with the Ephesians 2:5,6 passage, "...even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with (Christ)(by grace you have been saved)." ***But we are hidden with (Christ) in God Col 3:3, seated with Him yes, but "in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus" Eph 2:6, until our Life is revealed and then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.Col 3:4 My parentheses are there for comparison or contrast. I hope this shows my understanding of being in Christ. It is probably not unlike yours or ibelieve. |

2663 | WHY WAS JESUS | John 11:15 | Ray | 17797
Hi There, "That you may believe" is the reason for His delay and it was also the reason that He prayed aloud to the Father in verse 42. "I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.*" "...and I* am glad for your sakes that I was not there". He wasn't glad for the sakes of Mary and Martha but for the disciples sakes, that they might believe. Martha believed didn't she; verse 21, "Lord, if You* had been here, my brother would not have died." Jesus believed;verse 25, "Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me* will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this? Mary believed; verse 32, "Lord, if You* had been here, my brother would not have died. Both Martha and Mary believed in the Teacher* of verse 28. They believed as some of them said in verse 37, "Could not this (Man), who opened the eyes of the blind man, have kept this man also from dying?" The chief priests and the Pharisees were afraid that everyone would believe in Him* and they would lose their power. ***A comparison of verse 26 and verse 50 is worthwhile if you believe in the Man, Jesus. Do you believe this? This Man is performing many signs; verse 52, "and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad." |

2664 | Still true today... | 2 Chr 7:14 | Ray | 17755
Hi IDONTSHARE, Some thoughts...Isaiah 57:15, "For thus says the high and exalted One who lives forever, whose name is Holy, 'I* dwell on a high and holy place,And also with the contrite and lowly of spirit In order to revive the spirit of the lowly And to revive the heart of the contrite.'" NASB Contrast this with the NKJ and NASB Isaiah 52:13, "Behold, My Servant will prosper, He* will be high and lifted up and greatly exalted. Just as many were astonished at you, My people." Do you see the evidence of the Holy Spirit after the introduction of the Servant? Does He show up here in Isa 52:13? The * is for comparison. Isaiah 50, titled "God helps His Servant". Isaiah 50:4, "The Lord God has given Me the tongue of disciples..."NASB Here again is this Spirit. |

2665 | God's people's land? | 2 Chr 7:14 | Ray | 17754
Hi IDONTSHARE, I was comparing 2 Chronicles 7:13,14 in the NKJ and NASB. I thought it was interesting about the big IF. In the NKJ it is "When I shut up heaven and there is no rain...if My people..." In the NASB is reads, "If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain...and My people..." I think that God is in control don't you? |

2666 | John 17-24 | John 17:24 | Ray | 17700
Hi ibelieve, I appreciate your posting here and the connection you make between John 17:5 and Col 3:3. I wonder though if you don't imply too much glory to us. We are raised up with Christ positionally, and seek the things above, but we are not seated with Christ at the right hand of the Father. Our glory is that we can be one body, whether Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, slave or free, "but Christ is all, and in all." Col 3:11 John 17:24 says that we see His spiritual glory and verse 25 that we have known that the Father sent Him. Now we have to make His name, His authority known. Just as John 17:7 says, "Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; for the words which You gave Me I have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that I came forth from You, and they believed that You sent Me." Our authority is in keeping His word. John 17:6--Col 3:16 Later, Ray |

2667 | "Who is the one?" | Matt 11:10 | Ray | 17682
Hi Tim, I appreciate your interest here. I think that in Malachi we can find the sense of the fact that John the baptist is Elijah the prophet. He is the messenger of Malachi 3:1 and Malachi 4:5,6 and Luke 1:16,17 Malachi 3:1, "Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he* will clear the way before Me." Here we see the one*; John the baptist in the spirit of Elijah. Continuing Mal 3:1, "And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold He* is coming, says the Lord of hosts." Here we see the messenger of the covenant. The marginal note for my NASB study bible has "even" as a possible translation for "and" the messenger. The NKJ has it, "...Even the Messenger* of the covenant, In whom you delight." This "even the messenger" is what I have been leading up to in order to introduce the possibility of the quote talking about the Messenger here in Matthew 11:10. Think about it awhile and let me know what you think about that. You asked what a pronoun of Deity is in my mind. This word "messenger" is one. "Mediator" is another when we think of the mediator of a new covenant. These are words that speak of Deity but are not necessarily capitalized. The list goes on: light or Light, rock or Rock, spirit or Spirit, bread or Bread, Way, Truth, and Life or not, one or One, etc. You know me well enough that you know that I have to capitalize pronouns of Deity and rely on translations that do that. Malachi is an excellent book to see how capitalization glorifies God and gives Him the respect that He is due. It can be translated the same but the interpretation can be quite different; NKJ,"A son honors his father, And a servant his master. If then I am the Father, Where is My honor? And if I am a Master, where is My reverence? Says the Lord of hosts To you priests who despise My name." Compare NASB and NKJ for Malachi 1:6, 2:10, and 3:1. But I want to get back with you about just who is the Expected One. Later, Ray |

2668 | "Who is the one?" | Matt 11:10 | Ray | 17632
There are five pronouns of Deity and one mention of the messenger in this quote. How can it be logically stated that this quote is writing about "the one"? I believe that it is about the One that they don't know. I believe that it is about the Expected One mentioned in verse three of the chapter. Can I hear from anyone? |

2669 | "Who is the one?" | Matt 11:10 | Ray | 17608
Hi Epaga, Welcome to the forum. I notice that the Scripture above now has it in print as is in the NASB l995 copyright. That makes it somewhat easier for us. Thank you for your answer and it is the expected one. Would you go to the passage in Malachi 3:1 which is a reference in my study bible for Matt ll:10. Would you see if there is a possible second answer? Let me print it out for everyone to see. Malachi 3:l, "Behold, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple; and the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight, behold, He is coming," says the Lord of hosts." Do you see two messengers here? |

2670 | "Who is the one?" | Matt 11:10 | Ray | 17596
The Greek as printed here for Matthew 11:10 does not point out the pronouns of Deity. My question is, "Who is the one about whom it is written,..."
2671 | The Restrainer - Revisited! | 2 Thess 2:7 | Ray | 17593
Hi Tim, You may think that I am confused, but you at least know how I interpret the passage. I do believe that the mystery or the man of lawlessness will be taken out of the midst. (It or he). verse 6. And you know the One who restrains [him] now, for in His time He will be revealed. verse 7. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; there is only One holding [it] back just now until he (it) is removed. I am only interested in pronouns of Deity so the bracketed ones here I'm not concerned about. This study reminds me of another string of pronouns which makes one wonder who is being spoken of. Let me introduce a thread on Matthew 11:10 if you are interested. Later, Ray |

2672 | The Restrainer - Revisited! | 2 Thess 2:7 | Ray | 17562
Hi Tim, I believe that God is applying a lot of self-restraint. If you think that the son of destruction is being restrained perhaps you haven't been listening to today's news. 2 Thess 2:7, "For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work..." ONLY [THERE IS] ONE HOLDING [IT] BACK JUST NOW UNTIL OUT OF [THE] MIDST [WAY] HE IS GONE." Greek New Testament, UBS 4th edition, Nestle-Atland 26th edition. So God shows self-restraint and allows it to work until the lawless one is taken out of the midst, revealed, and slain. 2 Thess 2:6, "AND NOW THE ONE HOLDING [HIM] BACK YOU KNOW FOR HIM TO BE REVEALED IN HIS OWN TIME." I know the One holding back. And in His time He will be revealed. He would want to be revealed after the son of destruction displays himself as being God. I think that Colossians 3:1-7 is a good companion passage. "Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ , who is our Life*, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them." Verse 10,"...and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him--" Later, Ray |

2673 | The Restrainer - Revisited! | 2 Thess 2:7 | Ray | 17520
Hi Tim, I know that you are writing CDBJ but I also have been studying this passage with you. I appreciate your work here. Because the man of lawlessness makes himself above every so called god and displays himself as being God he will be revealed and taken out of the way. But the fact remains that the hope of the Christian is that the Son of Man is to be revealed. He is coming again and we are looking for Him. It is because of this that I will not fail to capitalize the pronouns of verse six and the Restrainer of verse seven. The Restrainer will do so until the son of destruction will be taken out of the way, revealed, slain, and brought to an end by the appearance of His coming. I wonder why the Person of the Holy Spirit was chosen as the Restrainer. I would have you look at Matthew 24:36, "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father* alone."and "For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah." I would think that the Father is the Restrainer. Compare Matthew with 2 Thess.2:6, "And you know what restrains Him* now,..." and "so that in His time He will be revealed." The * is for comparison. The Son of Man will be revealed. 2 Thess 2:14, "It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." Tim, what I would disagree with you on then is number 2) of "What do we know for sure?" I am looking for the Son of Man not the son of destruction. Thanks again for your study, Later, Ray |

2674 | Why did David choose five stones? | John 3:16 | Ray | 17474
Hi Leinaala, Why did Paul choose five words? 1 Corinthians 14:19 says, "however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind, that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue." What great words David had to give to Saul. 1 Samuel 17:36, "Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has taunted the armies of the living God.* And David said, "The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of the Philistine." What great words David said to the giant Philistine. 1 Samuel 17:45, "Then David said to the Philistine, 'You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted." Saul had said to David, "Go, and may the Lord be with you." 1 Samuel 17:37b. May the Lord be with us as we speak our five words, our words of spiritual power as they are given to us from God. May the unbeliever be convicted of his sin and "fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you." 1Corinthians 14:25 God was certainly with David for he said in 1Samuel 17:46, "This day the Lord will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and remove your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth will know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord's* and He will give you into our hands." |

2675 | The "finger of God" | Mark 6:7 | Ray | 17319
Hi Tim, I think that we can reassure anyone reading this thread that we are not saying that a translation is incorrect. We are not changing the meaning of the Scripture passage. But I do think that a decision can be made so that copyrights don't have to change back and forth at anyone's whim. That's just my personal opinion of course. Tim, let's look at the other place where this passage is found. Luke 9:1-3 has basically the same message and uses four pronouns. I feel that the NASB should have left Mark 6:7-9 with four pronouns. If both have four pronouns then the passages would agree together about "and He added, "Do not put on two tunics." In the NASB it has "He added" in italics just as Green's Interlinear has "And (He) charged them that they..." the parenthesis showing that it was also understood. Tim, I prefer the literal rather than the smooth. Be that as it may, we still agree that the authority over unclean spirits comes from God. Later, Ray |

2676 | The "finger of God" | Mark 6:7 | Ray | 17321
Hi Tim, It is the comparison of these two Scripture passages that brought me to putting spirit in the lower case for Mt.12:28. Your paragraph about God's power is what I think the spirit is about. I believe that the Spirit is a Person of the Trinity, but I also believe that the spirit is power. Compare Luke 11:20, Matthew 12:28, Luke 9:2, Matthew 7:22 and see what the kingdom of God is about. |

2678 | Does the OT talk about resurrection? | Matt 22:30 | Ray | 17297
Hi Nolan, It would be difficult to understand why God's word (the Scriptures are about Him) would have four pronouns in a row speaking about something that is not in the context. He has to be speaking about Himself. You are agreeing then that 2 Thess 2:6,7 could well be interpreted, "And you know what restrains Him now, so that in His time He will be revealed. For the mystery of lawlesssness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way." If you are so agreeable, let me pose some questions to you about the other scriptures you posted on this thread.:) |

2679 | Does Jesus deny His deity? | Mark 10:18 | Ray | 17228
Hi Brian, I believe that the questions and discussion were centered around Jesus also. But I believe that they were centered around the Teacher. I think that this is the only place where teacher is not capitalized in the book of Matthew, NASB. I believe that it should be. Compare Mark 10:17 with Matthew 17:24 and Matthew 23:8
2680 | The "finger of God" | Mark 6:7 | Ray | 17201
Hi Steve, Your answer is confusing. Here is what I am saying. l) The original NASB, 1977 copyright that is, has "And Hegave them authority...". The l995 copy has dropped the pronoun and it reads "and gave them authority..." In other words, originally they had the pronoun and now have dropped it. 2) If you are talking about the original Greek, then I would say that you can find it translated both ways depending on the Interlinear copy you choose. I agree with you that the authority over unclean spirits comes from God. What is your comment on "the finger of God?" |
