421 | Is God somehow responsible? | Rom 1:20 | Pastor Glenn | 70268
This is a regular atheist question. To accuse the creator of all things of evil; thereby judging the great Judge, is not our place. We have many direct, and indirect evils to answer for. If He uses the same measuring stick against us that this question poses against Him, then we are left in a totally hopeless position indeed. Pastor Glenn |

422 | does prayer produce measureable results? | Matt 16:4 | Pastor Glenn | 69405
You are right about that EdB. God is doing great miracles here everyday, but we don't always pay attention. Like when the firemen stayed with one woman in a wheelchair at the WTC on 9/11. God saved them after the building collapsed. Also, the 9 men who were trapped in a mine a few months ago. Many of us prayed for them and one led them in prayer in their midst. God delivered them. My assistant pastor is a former drug dealer. He and his wife are also former drug abusers just a few years ago. God delivered them and now they are among my biggest helpers at our church in the heart of Chicago, IL. God has blessed me personally to quickly find new employment after only 5 weeks of being laid off. My present engineering job pays double what I was making before so I am well blessed to provide for my wife and 8 children. Yes, one wife and eight children. Did I stutter brother? God is still performing great miracles indeed. Pastor Glenn |

423 | Error in the NIV? | John 5:4 | Pastor Glenn | 69385
"Q. Are verses (John 5:4, Matt. 17:21, Matt. 18:11, Acts 8:37, etc.) missing? A. No. Check the footnotes. These verses all appear as footnotes in some translations, as they are not present on the earliest or most reliable manuscripts. If you want to see these verses, be sure to either view the entire chapter, or any span of verses that includes the verse directly preceding the apparent "missing" verse. Q. What do the footnotes NU-Text and M-text in the NKJV mean? A. The makers of New King James Version sought to make no evaluation of readings, but simply sought to clearly indicate the manuscript source of readings. According to the New King James Version Preface: Where significant variations occur in the New Testament Greek Manuscripts, textual notes are classified as follows: NU-Text These variations from the traditional text generally represent the Alexandrian or Egyptian type of text [the oldest, but sometimes questioned text].They are found in the Critical Text published in the Twenty-sixth edition of the Nestle-Aland Greek New Testament (N) and in the United Bible Society's third edition (U), hence the acronym "NU-text." M-Text This symbol indicates points of variation in the Majority Text from the traditional text [a concensus of most Greek manuscripts]. It should be noted that M stands for whatever reading is printed in the published Greek New Testament According to the Majority Text, whether supported by overwhelming, strong, or only a divided majority textual tradition." http://bible.gospelcom.net/help/ |

424 | does prayer produce measureable results? | Matt 16:4 | Pastor Glenn | 69383
dennis2tw, Welcome to the forum. Matthew 16 4A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet[1] Jonah." And He left them and departed. It would talk a prophet on the order of Elijah to hear from God and pull it off, but Jonah like prophets is all that God sends to "A wicked and adulterous generation" such as ours. Remember that Jonah performed no miracles for Ninevah, but they believed God anyway and repented. Therefore Jesus said: Matthew 12:41 The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. We already have the testimony of thousands that were touched by the miracles of Jesus Christ's 3 year ministry that changed history. He alone fulfilled vast numbers of Hebrew prophecies. God knows that this generation is full of those that are lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. Biblically, it seems that God grants more miracles to those that are being decieved by Satan, but are also likely to respond in faith. God knows our hearts, but all too often our hearts are no good. So I do not feel that God will show Himself in a study in these times. Based on all that He has already done and shown through the centuries I think that He would choose not to. But, if you want to see His miracles, go out on missionary trips to the jungles of Africa, the far reaches of China and other lands that have been oppressing Christianity and I believe that God will show Himself strong through your hands as the Spirit moves. 425 | contaminated by idols, strangled meat | Acts 15:20 | Pastor Glenn | 68283
guitarmonkey, We talked about this a little bit at: ID# 64543 Personally I see this as applying to both Jews and Gentiles. I think there is scripture concerning "...what is strangled and from blood.". These may be related to the fact that the spirit of life is in the blood. This seems to go beyond just "cerimonial laws". The spirit of the animals is supposed to return to the ground, but it is wrong to let it go through our bodies (Ecclesiastes 3:21). Why is this to be kept in the new testament? I think it is because God is saying in both the old and new testaments, that the life (spirit) is in the blood: Deuteronomy 12:23 Only be sure that thou eat not the blood: for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh. Ecclesiastes 3:21 Who knows the spirit of the sons of men, which goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, which goes down to the earth? Ecclesiastes 12:7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Based on these scriptures concerning blood, I think that this was more than just a suggestion from the disciples. God's command "...for the blood is the life; and thou mayest not eat the life with the flesh. " is still true today for both Jew and Gentile. Pastor glenn |

426 | Are you a true believer? | Rom 8:39 | Pastor Glenn | 68233
Exactly, The question was incomplete. The question is usually incomplete when we sin also: "I have sinned, so did I just loose my salvation?" The first question should be: 1. Was I saved to begin with? 2. If yes, then was I walking in the spirit or in the flesh? 3. If I was walking in the flesh, then I am carnal. So how do I get a closer walk with the Lord? Have I been filled with the Spirit? We must be willing to do whatever it takes to get free from the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life: Matthew 5 Adultery in the Heart 27 "You have heard that it was said to those of old,[3] "You shall not commit adultery.'[4] 28But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. Matthew 18:8"If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. 9And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire. |

427 | Are you a true believer? | Rom 8:39 | Pastor Glenn | 68220
Romans 8 is the wrong chapter to consider this question. "Is there security of the believer?" is secondary to the question of "Are you a true believer?". So maybe the question should be: "Is there security of the TRUE believer?" There are many that SAY they believe, but do they believe "in their heart"? Romans 10 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Nowhere in the bible does it teach salvation for someone that is stuck in sin. If they truly love Jesus there will be evidence of a changed life. He said those that love Him will keep His comandments. Yes, King David slipped into sin, but when the temptation came again years later he showed his spiritual maturity: 1 Kings 1 1 Now King David was old, advanced in years; and they put covers on him, but he could not get warm. 2Therefore his servants said to him, "Let a young woman, a virgin, be sought for our lord the king, and let her stand before the king, and let her care for him; and let her lie in your bosom, that our lord the king may be warm." 3So they sought for a lovely young woman throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king. 4The young woman was very lovely; and she cared for the king, and served him; but the king did not know her. Those that are stuck in sin should doubt their "true salvation" and repent. They do not need to hate themselves, but they should hate their sin. Then God can change them from the inside out. 429 | What is the people sin? | NT general Archive 1 | Pastor Glenn | 67949
No, God did not make mistakes! When you raise children and do all you can to teach them the right way to go, it may make you sorry you had them too. But it is not your fault that they sinned. God desires a rightious seed: Malachi 2:15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth. |

confusing, Hell was made for Satan and his fallen angels. Man does not go to hell because God made him, but because God set laws and told man the consequences if he should align himself with Satan. You are blaming God for setting laws. Yes, if He did not set laws then it there would be no standard for whether Adam would love or hate God. Adam's bad choice caused death to the "tree" of man and his seed (us). We are a continuing dying life line from Adam. But, Jesus is the second Adam that gives every man the choice for life. It is not God's fault that some choose Satan's way. Pastor Glenn |

431 | a human answer to my previous question | Matt 5:12 | Pastor Glenn | 67684
scrkuker, You wrote: "..help me..give me a passage to read to give me strength..I need encouragement..." I am not sure what kind of "human" answer you want. If you are a woman, then you can provide some of the emotional support that she may need. Other than that, she should consult with her school officials and/or the local police. If she asked only for "...a passage to read ..." then give her the word of God: John 4 14but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life." 15The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw." Matthew 5 The Beatitudes (1) 1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying: 3"Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. 5Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. 6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. 7Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. 8Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. 9Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. 10Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11"Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Psalm 37 The Heritage of the Righteous and the Calamity of the Wicked A Psalm of David. 1 Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. 2For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. 3Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. 6He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. 7Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. 8Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret--it only causes harm. 9For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth. 10For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more. 11But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. 12The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth. 13The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming. 14The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct. 15Their sword shall enter their own heart, And their bows shall be broken. |

433 | Is God's will prosperity/healing always? | Rom 8:28 | Pastor Glenn | 67675
EdB, I tried not to say anything more than what the scripture said. Maybe it was too much context: 1 Tim 6 6Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain[3] we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. This scripture is often ignored since men lust for riches. Pastor Glenn |

434 | Is God's will prosperity/healing always? | Rom 8:28 | Pastor Glenn | 67667
EdB, Here is scripture thaty is ignored: 1 Tim 6 Error and Greed 3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, 4he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, 5useless wranglings[1] of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.[2] 6Now godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain[3] we can carry nothing out. 8And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. 9But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. ... Instructions to the Rich 17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. 18Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, 19storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. 435 | Why does Jesus have 2 genealogies? | Rom 1:18 | Pastor Glenn | 67545
ateo, The relevance is by not having a relationship with God, there is no hope of understanding His word since Jesus said that His words are spirit and they are life. Just as we cannot go to the moon without the proper vehical, we cannot study God's spiritual things without a spiritual nature from God: Job 37:5 God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. Ecclesiastes 11:5 As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed [ 11:5 Or [ know how life ] (or [ the spirit ] ) / enters the body being formed ] in a mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things. 1 Corinthians 2:14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. Come back to God ateo: Isaiah 55 6 Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD , and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. 8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD . 9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 436 | Go out in the highways and thebyways!!!! | Bible general Archive 1 | Pastor Glenn | 67501
EdB, Thank you for you well balanced comments. Prayer is definitely the key here. This week I plan to attend the funeral of an elderly pastor that suffered many things through the years. About 30 years ago God cured him of throat cancer. Then, about 25 years ago, an arsonist burned their church completely down! They had very little or no fire insurance. They were granted the sharing of a neighboring church while they raised funds to rebuild. After a few years they did rebuild a very nice building. Since I am only 43 years old now, I was not up on much of the details. I was not part of his congregation, but I know it must have been very difficult to keep the small flock together. This is why it is so hard to judge from the outside looking in. Thanks again for your comments to Mae64. God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

Mae64, I really cannot comment about your church or pastor, but here are two scriptures: 2 Corinthians 9 5Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare your generous gift beforehand, which you had previously promised, that it may be ready as a matter of generosity and not as a grudging obligation. The Cheerful Giver 6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 9As it is written: "He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever." Luke 14 The Parable of the Great Supper (1) 15 Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread[3] in the kingdom of God!" 16Then He said to him, "A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, 17and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, "Come, for all things are now ready.' 18But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, "I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.' 19And another said, "I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.' 20Still another said, "I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' 21So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, "Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.' 22And the servant said, "Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.' 23Then the master said to the servant, "Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper."' 440 | Can we loose our salvation | Bible general Archive 1 | Pastor Glenn | 67406
Hank, Here is a paragraph that I think is not well reasoned with scripture: "There is one idea which has occurred to us. It has struck us as a singular thing, that our friends should hold that men can be converted, made into new creatures, then fall away and be converted again. I am an old creature by nature; God creates me into a new thing, he makes me a new creature. I cannot go back into an old creature, for I cannot be uncreated. But yet, supposing that new creatureship of mine is not good enough to carry me to heaven. What is to come after that? Must there be something above a new creature—a new creature. Really, my friends, we have got into the country of Dreamland; but we were forced to follow our opponents into that region of absurdity, for we do not know how else to deal with them." http://www.spurgeon.org/sermons/0075.htm He seems to forget that though we are new creatures in Christ, we still have the old nature that is not dead yet. He also sees no distiction between: A. Sin, confrontation, repentance B. Sin, confrontation, nonrepentance Pastor Glenn |
