Dear Maearl What Doc has said is correct. I would also like to add something. God said, in Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” There is a Truth our there. And yes, there is error. Lots of it. But the promise of Jeremiah 29:13 is that you WILL find God. But the condition to that promise is that you must search with ALL your heart. In Revelation 3:20 Christ says “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” There is an enemy out who would like nothing better than for you to become frustrated and give up. But like Doc said, the fact that this even concerns you is proof that the Holy Spirit is working in your heart. Don’t give up. You mentioned your sins. Jesus said "…It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners." Mark 2:17. I’ve done MANY things in my life that I hate. Many things that horrify me. But you and I are fortunate. Christ came to save people just like us. The apostle Paul, in his first letter to Timothy wrote “…Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.” 1 Timothy 1:15 I’m sure you’ve done many things in your life that you regret. So have I. For that matter, so had Paul. But Christ’s blood can cover those sins. Don’t give up. I'll pray for you. With Christian Love Ocelot |

Hello Hic, To be blameless, perfect or holy does not mean that we posses those traits by nature. Nor does it mean that Noah attained perfection or blamelessness of his own ability. The Bible says in Philippians 2:13 “for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.” Ocelot |

You said: “But Jesus takes us away from the law! We no longer live under the law, but under Grace! Do we sin? Yes, we do!” Romans 6:14, 15 “For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!” Ocelot |

Oh Russ my friend. You have inspired me. You said “The truth is that Sunday being the first day of the week is man made.” I would say that you are totally and utterly, dead wrong. There is not, and never has been a command in the Bible to keep holy any day other than the Sabbath, the day we call Saturday. The seven day week was NOT man made. It was GOD made. The Jews (those people that stood on Mount Sinai) have kept only Saturday holy for thousands of years. That’s all I have to say… for now Ocelot |

Here are a couple of corrections to my last post. It would really help if I got everything right the first time. The place I said “The seven day week was NOT man made.” What I should have said was “Sunday being the first day of the week was NOT man made. Also where I said “There is not, and never has been a command in the Bible to keep holy any day other than the Sabbath, the day we call Saturday” Should have “…keep holy any day OF THE WEEK…” in it. I’m sure you all knew what I meant :-) Ocelot |

Hi Russ. Where in the Bible did this change take place? Nowhere in all of Holy Scripture is there any mention of transference of the sanctity of the Sabbath to the first day of the week. I do respect Spurgeon. But if Almighty God calls the SEVENTH day of the week Sabbath, and Charles Spurgeon calls the FIRST day of the week Sabbath, I’m going to stick with God. Ocelot |

127 | Remaking of the Will | Rom 8:7 | Ocelot | 173611
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Joshua 24:15 "If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” Deut 30:19 "I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,” Isaiah 1:16-20 "Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight…Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool. If you consent and obey, You will eat the best of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, You will be devoured by the sword. Truly, the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” Revelation 22:17 “The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.” John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,” Titus 2:11 “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,” Ezekiel 33:11 "Say to them, 'As I live!' declares the Lord GOD, 'I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?'” |

128 | Remaking of the Will | Rom 8:7 | Ocelot | 173638
That's a good verse. But you should keep reading… Jeremiah 18:7-11 "At one moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to uproot, to pull down, or to destroy it; if that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent concerning the calamity I planned to bring on it. Or at another moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to build up or to plant it; if it does evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will think better of the good with which I had promised to bless it. So now then, speak to the men of Judah and against the inhabitants of Jerusalem saying, 'Thus says the LORD, "Behold, I am fashioning calamity against you and devising a plan against you. Oh turn back, each of you from his evil way, and reform your ways and your deeds." I’d say it balances itself out quite nicely. Ocelot |

130 | A honest question on Calvinism | Rom 9:16 | Ocelot | 166687
Aright, here’s a question I’m not even sure if I’m allowed to ask. But with the understanding that I do not want to start a debate, but simply seek information, perhaps I can avoid breaching the rules of the forum. If not, just tell me no. My question’s on Calvinism. I’ve done a lot of reading on this site to avoid asking this question, but I can’t seem to find the specific answer. Perhaps I skimmed over it. If so, just give me the post number. Here’s my question, or questions. First: From the Calvinist perspective, who caused the origin of sin? I’ve always believed that God gave his creation freedom of choice because He didn’t want a bunch of robots worshipping Him. Thus there was left the chance for sin to enter creation. So here’s my dilemma. According to the Calvinists, is God responsible for sin? I can’t see how He couldn’t be if predestination were true. And that leads me to my second question. Second: How could a God of love create people who are predestined, that is they have no choice in the matter, to be tortured for all eternity in the fires of hell? If a person doesn’t have a choice in the matter, are they not created for the primary purpose of burning? (As that will be the primary thing they’ll be doing for eons.) So that is my dilemma. Now forgive me for asking the question, because the idea is totally foreign to me and I honestly didn’t truly think about it until just the other day. I didn't even know what Calvinism was. I do not intend to debate or even reply. I just want to know. Thank you in advance. Ocelot |

132 | Unable to speak in tongues. Why? | 1 Cor 14:19 | Ocelot | 197313
Dear jesus1km, I would point you to 1 Corinthians chapter 12. Also, prayerfully read chapter 14. Here are a couple of passages from those chapters that balance out the “tongues” issue. 1 Corinthians 12:28-30 “And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues. All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they? All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? But earnestly desire the greater gifts…” First of all, did you notice that “tongues” is last on the list of spiritual gifts that God has appointed? Secondly, the last portion of the passage makes it clear that God does not give everyone the same gifts. If He did, you’d have an unbalanced church. In 1 Corinthians 14:19 Paul says “…in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.” If you are going to a church that teaches that you don’t have the Holy Spirit unless you speak in tongues, you’re attending an unbalanced church (at best). You would be of much greater value to your church if you spoke five words that everyone could understand, that would instruct people spiritually, than ten thousand mumbled ramblings. I hope this helps. Ocelot |

133 | how will i be known to others in heaven? | 1 Cor 15:53 | Ocelot | 167270
Hello kfoale. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15:53, 54 “For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, "DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory.” The Bible says that we will “put on the imperishable” and “immortality”. It doesn’t say that we’ll be totally different people. I believe that we will look like ourselves, only we’ll look as God originally intended us to look. All of our imperfections will be gone. We’ll still be the same people, we’ll just be perfect. Those are my thoughts. Ocelot |

134 | Mark, am I missing something | Galatians | Ocelot | 165324
We are not under the Law, but under Grace. Shall we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? Read Romans chapter 6. We are not under the PENALTY of the Law. Christ did not die on the cross so that we could murder, lie and cheat on our spouses. We can not earn salvation by keeping the law. But we certainly can lose it by willfuly breaking the law. (2 Pet. 2:20,22;1 Cor. 9:27; Jer. 18:7-11;1 Cor. 15:1,2;)Read also Matthew chapter 5:17-19. When it seems that the Bible contradicts itself, assume that you’ve misinterpreted it. The evidence in favor of the Law, and yes, even the Sabbath is massive in weight. The evidence against it is circumstantial at best. Truth is like fence posts. If we base our beliefs on one misapplied text, we can line it up to make the Bible say just about anything we want. But when we find many texts that go against our one or two texts, we should assume we’ve misinterpreted the text. Weigh the evidence. Listen to your sister. Read the word. The word is the only rule by which we should base our beliefs. We should not base them on tradition. With Christian Love Ocelot |

Timberwolf If your sister believes that she is saved by keeping the law, then you are right and she is not. However if she is simply trying to keep the law because she loves God and wants to obey Him, then she is right. With Christian love Ocelot |

What is grace? Grace is when I’ve been speeding in excess and the cop that pulls me over lets me go without a ticket. Do I deserve a ticket? Yes. Do the laws that pertain to giving me a ticket for speeding still exist? Yes. So after he lets me go, do a peel out and spray gravel on his car? Now I realize that that’s not a perfect analogy of God’s grace. But here’s my point. Does God’s grace blot out His Law? No. The Law is eternal. God's grace removes the PUNISHMENT of His law. Did Isaiah live under grace? Yes. All of his righteousness were as filthy rags. It was still Christ’s grace and sacrifice that saved him. And he looked forward with faith to that sacrifice. The Ten Commandments were not “just for the Jews”. Most Christian pastors would preach the Ten Commandments any day. The only time they claim not to be living under them is when it pertains to the Sabbath. So were nine of the ten for everyone and only one of them just for the Jews? Read Isaiah 56:6. Also, read my post 164905. Just some thoughts. Ocelot P.S. Sorry, I realize that your post was addressed to kalos. |

Truth has never been popular. In the time of Noah, only eight people boarded the ark. During the time of Elijah only 7000 people in Israel and Judah, God’s chosen people, had not bowed the knee to Baal. In the time of Christ, God’s own people crucified Their Savior. During the dark ages the “Christian Majority” burned many thousands at the stake for possessing knowledge of the truth. Ocelot |

140 | Are grace and salvation the same? | Eph 2:8 | Ocelot | 170960
Hello NeffyM, and welcome to the forum. Salvation is the act of being saved. According to Webster, salvation is “deliverance from the power and effects of sin”. Grace is the means by which salvation comes. Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;” You asked “What is the difference between being saved by grace and salvation for christians?” The answers is, there is no difference. Salvation IS being saved by grace. Secondly, you asked “Where in the bible would I be able to find the meaning of being saved by grace and salvation.” Ephesians 1:7 “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace” So grace is redemption and forgiveness of trespasses. Grace is by nature a free gift. Lastly you asked “Can one be independent of the other?” My answer would be a hesitant “yes”. It would seem that grace is offered to all (John 3:16) but it is not accepted by most and therefore salvation is not given to most. (Matthew 7:13) I hope this answers your question. Ocelot |
