461 | Is it wrong to preach against sin? | Matt 7:2 | Norrie | 60658
OK, I concede!!! But you get tired of people interpreting the words wrong, esp when they like to argue wrong meanings. :)
462 | Are all Christians going to heaven? | Matt 7:21 | Norrie | 10651
Tell me if this is an example of what you're talking about. My bil had cancer and was dying. He and my sister were raised Cath. but never went to church since they were married, they drank a half gal of whiskey every other day and smoked a carton of cigs about the same, I have seen them go thru a carton in a day before-he had throat cancer. Anyway, I tried witnessing to them many times, gave them tapes to listen to, etc but they were never interested. Then when I knew he was dying, I tried again and he seemed more receptive, tried hard to get them both saved and they both did say that they had prayed the prayer. But at the same time, some friends of his father kept after them to come back to the church too. I tried to tell them that the church doesn't save, only Jesus. When he died, he had a Cath burial, they even wrapped the rosary around his hands, the same hands that only held booze and smokes! I doubt Mark would know how to even pray the rosary unless they taught it to him at the end. Then my sister said she was saved too back then, ut maybe they were just telling me to shut me up. When Mark died, Cathy went into depression nat. but it's been almost 3 yrs, she about chain smokes, still drinks like usual, cusses terribly. She just doesn't act any different than she's always acted. I think these are good examples of those that claimed to have accepted but never did really? |

464 | Greek, Peter, Rock? | Matt 16:18 | Norrie | 106155
A friend asked this question and I have no idea, I figured someone here would know. What is it in Biblical Greek, the words used for "Peter" and "rock"? I'll bet they are quite similar, if not the same word. This is a discussion about Peter being the rock on which Jesus built His Church. I say the rock is the revelation of Jesus as Lord, not that He is establishing a head for the church, Jesus is the Head.
465 | Greek, Peter, Rock? | Matt 16:18 | Norrie | 106168
Thanks, Tim, I'll pass this n. That seems to be my understanding but I like having someone more knowledgeable say so. :)
466 | Greek, Peter, Rock? | Matt 16:18 | Norrie | 106193
Accd to what Tim wrote, Peter is the masculine name but Rock has the fem name which is referring to Church which is Bride.
467 | Should We Get Married Again? | Matt 19:4 | Norrie | 55477
I think you hit it w/he "claims" to be a believer. My husband claimed that too but there is no fruit. We've had a miserable 10 yrs too but won't divorce, stick it thru anyway. The Bible also says that if an unbeliving spouse wants to go, let them, so I would think this means you don't HAVE to remarry. I'd pray long and hard before I jump from the frying pan into the fire again. When he shows fruit, then you can make a decision then after much prayer. If you're making it on your own, I'd stay that way till I knew for certain what God's will is, not do anything I might regret later, just my opinion. :)
468 | What is an acceptiable "Biblical questn? | Matt 22:21 | Norrie | 134084
Actually, I see it as if a person would vote for supporting ungodly principles, maybe they should questions themselves as to whether they are saved or not...aren't we chided to question ourselves?
469 | "ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED"!!! | Matt 22:37 | Norrie | 30407
I just happened to get this today and since it is the topic... CHRISTIANS AND THE ASSURANCE OF SALVATION Can Christians lose their salvation? Now that's an important question. Can I be sure that I'm really saved? Most Christians have probably had moments of doubt about their salvation. After all, we've all entertained thoughts and have committed acts that we knew were displeasing to God. We've all experienced that sense of remorse and sometimes questioned the reality of our salvation afterwards. Backsliding can no doubt cause such feelings to arise, and should hopefully move us to repentance (1 John 1:9). However, when it comes to the issue of eternal security, the Bible makes it absolutely clear that those who have been saved will never be lost. Jesus emphatically pointed this out in the Gospel of John when, in reference to believers, He said, "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand..." (John 10:28). In this passage, Christ explicitly declared that no one who has received eternal life will ever lose it. Furthermore, in such passages as 2 Corinthians 1:22, and Ephesians 1:13, the apostle Paul indicated that the Holy Spirit acts as the very seal of God's ownership of the believer; He serves as the guarantee of our inheritance to come - namely, eternal life (John 5:24; 1 John 5:13). In describing our inheritance the apostle Peter used some very powerful words - words like "imperishable," "undefiled," and "unfading" (1 Pet. 1:5). With these words He underscored the everlasting assurance believers have with respect to God's gift of salvation. Now I know what you're asking: "What about the Christians who have completely abandoned their faith?" Well, judging by what we're told in Scripture we can only conclude that they were never saved from the start. You see, while "once saved, always saved" is true from God's perspective, man only looks at the outward appearance and thus cannot always accurately assess who is really saved in the first place. The question therefore is not whether someone lost their salvation, but whether they had ever had it at all. As Romans chapter eight says, "there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (v. 38-29). He is the very source of our salvation. And remember, eternal life that comes to the believer through faith in Christ is not life for two weeks, two months, or even two years; eternal life is everlasting life. It begins at the moment of conversion and stretches on through the eons of time. CRI, P.O. Box 7000, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688 Phone (949) 858-6100 and Fax (949) 858-6111 |

470 | What can you call someone? | Matt 23:13 | Norrie | 101352
Matt 5:22 But whoever says "you fool" will be in danger of hell. Why? Jesus called the Pharisees snakes and vipers, washed tombs, hypocrites, etc. If someone really is what they are being called, is it OK then?
471 | What can you call someone? | Matt 23:13 | Norrie | 101363
I know I have a bad habit of calling a jerk a jerk because they are! It's hard to break a habit like that, esp. when someone does something really stupid...:) I guess I'll have a lot to answer for. :( It still seems like we have to judge somethings for ourselves, so it seems if someone is acting like, then it goes to reason that they are. |

I have some info on judging I'll send to you, it's too long to put here. :)
473 | Why Were They Shut Out? | Matt 25:12 | Norrie | 11079
I've heard that the story of the 10 Virgins corrolates to the rapture, some are going and some are not. It's up to each individual to be ready, I can't be ready for you and vice versa, it's something you have to do on your own. The part about why didn't they share, it reminded me of the ant and grasshopper story. Why should someone who does what's right have to share with someone who doesn't care, would rather do their own thing, then when times comes, try to mooch off the one who worked for what they got? Isn't there even a scripture about he who doesn't work, doesn't eat? |

474 | Roman guard myth? | Matt 28:11 | Norrie | 122144
Where did the myth about Roman soldiers guarading the Tomb come from? In Matthew it says temple guard, depending on which translation, but Pilate said basically YOU guard it. The guard is not mentioned in other gospels but all passion plays, story books, etc say Roman guard, not temple guard.
475 | Roman guard myth? | Matt 28:11 | Norrie | 122154
But they weren't Roman, why would a Roman say they were there when they weren't?
476 | Roman guard myth? | Matt 28:11 | Norrie | 122172
I'll think on it. I'll try to find that part in Pontious Pilate book too, see what that says. Thanks. :) |

477 | Roman guard myth? | Matt 28:11 | Norrie | 122240
OK, I reread the acct in the historical novel of Pontius Pilate by Paul Maier. For each chapter, in back he has the historical data from where he got his info. This is what it says: "THE GUARD AT THE TOMB: There is some contraversy as to whether the Jewish temple police or Pilate's Roman auxiliaries were used to guard the sepulcher. The Greek of Matthew 27:65 cites Pilate's statement simply as: "You have a guard," though grammatically this could also be translated. "You may have a guard." But the first translation seems perferrable, since the watch reported the empty tomb directly to the chief priests rather than Pilate (Matt 28:11), which the temple police would certainly have done. Pilate's auxiliaries would clearly have reported to him and only to him. Terullian, "Apologeticus" xxi, 20, also speaks of Jewish military guard at the tomb." |

478 | Roman guard myth? | Matt 28:11 | Norrie | 122244
Pilate was also quite sick of the Jews, his wife was giving him a bad time about executing an innocent man, from what I've been trying to discover, it seems he told them more like do it yourself because he was tired of their whining. Yes, later they sent a msg to Pilate about guards sleeping trying to CYA. Accd to above book, the note went like this: "Joseph Caiaphas to Ponyius Pilatus, peace. The followers of the Nazarene will stop at nothing, as you have doubtless heard. They came at night and stole his body while the guards were sleeping. Therefore if any claims are made to his so-called 'resurrection,' you will know how to interpret these. We are grateful for your cooperation. Do not think harshly of our guards for falling asleep. They have been exhausted over the last days in pursuing this case. Peace Pilate had contempt for such an excuse in behalf of sleeping guards. Didn't they set up shifts? They would not have come off so lightly if they were Roman auxiliaries." I know the Pilate book is an historical novel but the author did a lot of research in it. The back of book is loaded w/references. This question started because my daughter asked it the other night. :) |

479 | Roman guard myth? | Matt 28:11 | Norrie | 122247
They would have been punished regardless, whether they reported to priests first or Pilate if it was Romans. From all the evidence, I believe it was temple guards. Pilate was thoroughly disgusted w/the whole matter and wanted nothing more to do w/it, he told priests to do what they wanted.
480 | Roman guard myth? | Matt 28:11 | Norrie | 122254
They were guarding outside the temple area, they would have had to have had Pilate permission for that. They asked Pilate for his guards, he said you do it. You're the Greek scholar, what is literal translation of the Greek? |
