2402 | Taleb, Are you a NT only person ? | Hebrews | Mommapbs | 102085
Mt 22:40 is the reference I believe Taleb was referring to. In the KJV it reads: "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." mommapbs |

2404 | Does God speak to us directly? | Heb 1:2 | Mommapbs | 123890
Greetings! Input Heb 1:2 in the Questions/Notes on verse text field in the green stipe at the top of this page. God does indeed speak to us. We can "hear" Him through His Word. "Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, O house of Israel."Ezk 3:10 Sometimes God may speak unbidden but mostly we hear Him as we desire to hear His voice. God speaks to us throguh His Word, through His Spirit, through prayer, through circumstances and through other people to name a few . . . I also believe that God speaks to some in visions and dreams. God's voice may also be audible for some (He has spoken this way to me three times.) Since everyone's relationship with the Lord is personal, we should be careful not to put limits upon what God can or can not do - one time, He spoke by using a donkey. God still speaks, the question is: are we listening? Blessings, mommapbs |

2405 | Who are the companions? | Heb 1:9 | Mommapbs | 134215
Survivor - thank you sharing your profile with the Forum, however you STILL have not answered our request - Hank and other have repeatedly asked, "Are you a Jehovah's Witness?" I would like a simple YES or NO answer: Is Jesus GOD (Jehovah)? |

2406 | Who are the companions? | Heb 1:9 | Mommapbs | 134318
Survivor, your answer will NOT affect mine. My answer to you does not matter, nor does your answer to me. OUR answers will be given to the One who will judge the living and the dead . . . Jesus asks, "But who do you say that I am?" Mt 16:15 It is to HIM to whom we must given an account. 1 Peter 4:5;2 Tim 4:1 |

2407 | Searching for the truth | Heb 2:4 | Mommapbs | 76000
Hi FytRobert! There are those who "use" the manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit as a "litmus test" of sorts. But from this verse we see that the gifts of the Holy Spirit (as listed in 1 Cor 12) are given according the will of God. Is His will be that we parade them in front of others for affirmation? The purpose of the gifts is to edify the BODY, not the individual.(1 Cor 12:7) What you are reporting should be troubling, for what is the motive behind the request for the manifestation of the gifts of tounges to be evident? We are told to desire the greater gifts,(1 Cor 12:31) . . . where does "speaking in tongues" fall on this list of gifts? What are the "greater gifts?" Blessings, mommapbs |

2408 | What is the heavenly calling? | Heb 3:1 | Mommapbs | 111820
Greetings! Just as God called Abram to leave his country and go to a land that God would show him, we too are called to leave the kingdom of this world and become citizens of the Kingdom of God. Our destination is to dwell in the "Promised Land" - Heaven. (Phil 3:20) Do see 21564 (written by Tim Moran) Whenever a verse begins with "therefore" I ask, "What's it there for?" and check the previous verse. "For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted." Heb 2:18 Our heavenly calling is what is in store for us, but right now, we are told to "consider Jesus." To me, this is the most important aspect of this verse. Why do you think we told to "consider" Him? Could it be that it is because we are citizens of a Heavenly Kingdom, living in enemy territory? You do realize this! And so you are tempted . . . to want your own way, you want God to do things your way etc. And yet you desire to walk intimately with the Lord. This indeed is the struggle common to most of us! Jesus is there to help you with all the issues that draw you away, for He was tempted too. He calls you to engage in spiritual warfare with Him - the battle is for your mind, BUT your heart belongs to God, you are secure in your "heavenly calling." You vacillate between two masters - but "greater is He who is in you that he who is in the world!" (1 John 4:4) Are you considering Jesus? He has secured for you an inheritance in Heaven - and walks with you daily until that Day when He welcomes you home . . . I hope you will be encouraged to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith! (Heb 12:2) Blessings, mommmapbs |

2409 | Two questions on this verse | Heb 3:13 | Mommapbs | 153995

2410 | Two questions on this verse | Heb 3:13 | Mommapbs | 154033
Thanks! "admonish them at that very time, do not put it off or wait;" I wonder why it is that some believers don't take this to heart???? On a side note: my Pastor always said, "Doubt your doubts." |

2411 | Two questions on this verse | Heb 3:13 | Mommapbs | 159298
Greetings and welcome to the Forum - interesting that you chose to respond to this question. What prompted this? We have this day - Today - it is a gift to be received with gladness . . . but tomorrow is the real "present" - for it is then when we will be "present" with the Lord. So as long as it is called Today - we make it our aim to please Him . . . ("This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased" comes to mind here!) I appreciated your response to the deceitfulness of sin. Blessings, mommapbs |

2412 | The rest of God? | Heb 3:19 | Mommapbs | 154061
What is the "rest of God"? Please refer to the following chapter for some insight. Is there a difference between obedience and belief? Can one obey the law of God and still be called disobedient? (See previous verse)

What is a "foundation of repentance from dead works?"
2414 | What is a repentance from dead works? | Heb 6:1 | Mommapbs | 133547
Greetings Emmaus - good reference! I'm wondering, do we are believers neglect these also today - "justice and mercy and faithfulness"? If so, how do you see this happening . . . Blessings, mommapbs |

2415 | What is a repentance from dead works? | Heb 6:1 | Mommapbs | 133551
Emmaus, might these dead works be anything that we "do" apart from Christ at work in us? What I'm thinking about here is learning to recognize when we are doing "good things" with the wrong motivation. If I do this for God then He will do that . . .which is a reflection of a self-centered heart. A Christ-centered heart has HIM in operation, a life yielded to His will, His desires, His motives . . . mommapbs |

2416 | What is a repentance from dead works? | Heb 6:1 | Mommapbs | 133589
Rowdy, what makes our "works" worthy? This is what I think: From God's perspective, our "righteous" works are no more worthy than filthy rags. (Is 64:6) Compare this to Is 61: 10 "I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, My soul will exult in my God; For He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels." It is the righteousness of Christ that makes us worthy. It is the righteousness of Christ which enables us to bring glory to God. How can sinful man do this apart from Christ? Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? (Ps 23:4)There is but One. And when we are IN Christ, we stand as holy and blameless too. (Col 1:22 et al) It is Christ at work in us that makes our "good deeds" God Deeds. We are God's workmanship, created in Christ, unto good works which He prepared in advance for us to do. Eph 2:10. The fruit of self-effort or anything done apart from Christ (John 15:5) will be burned up as dross in the refiner's fire. (1 Cor 3:11-15) Blessings, mommapbs |

2417 | What is a repentance from dead works? | Heb 6:1 | Mommapbs | 133616
Greetings Rowdy, can we agree to disagree here? God loves me unconditionally; He loves me even when I was alienated by sin from Him. (Romans 5:8) There is nothing that I can do to make Him love me more or less than He does right now. There is nothing that I can DO to get into Heaven except BELIEVE in what Jesus Christ has already DONE. It is on the basis of HIS work that God credits me with HIS righteousness. Again, Jesus said, "Apart from Me, you can DO nothing." (John 15:5) We've gone round and round about this on other threads, you believe that salvation requres Grace "and" - I believe that my salvation is a gift that I do nothing to earn or keep - it is by God's Grace alone that I am saved. Blessings, mommapbs |

2418 | What is a repentance from dead works? | Heb 6:1 | Mommapbs | 133636
Greetings doodlum and welcome to the Forum - As you will read, it seems that it is necessary to go over the same ground, for there are several in our midst who do not understand the "means of Grace" - For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Eph 2:8-9). Therefore at times we MUST continue to address this "foolishness of trying to be saved by being good." Blessings, mommapbs |
||||||
2419 | What is a repentance from dead works? | Heb 6:1 | Mommapbs | 133638
1 Cor 3:13 each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work. doodlum posted this: From the life application bible Hebrews 6:1 says: "Let us stop going over the same old ground again and again, always teaching thoses first lessons about Christ. Let us go on insted to other things and become mature in our understanding, as strong christians ought to be. Surley we don't need to speek further about the foolishness of tr;ying to be saved by being good, or about the necessety of faith in God." Colin - any attempt to please God apart from Christ is futile. Good (minus) God (equals) o Blessings, mommapbs |

2420 | How does God determine the difference? | Heb 6:1 | Mommapbs | 133685
A question has been asked: "How do you anticipate that God is going to distinguish between christians and other sinners on that Day?" (Judgment) Mommapbs asks: Does our anticipation determine God's standard of judgment or might it be something else? (please support your answers) |
