61 | how about entering -vs- inheriting | Matt 18:3 | Huron | 214290
John, That was quite helpful. Is there a difference between "entering," and "inheriting?" |

62 | is a rich man not eligble for heaven? | Matt 19:24 | Huron | 146000
Jesus didn't say that it was impossible for the rich to be saved. He is simply noting the same thing that Paul would later say in 1 Corinthians 1:26. The poor in spirit tend to look to God, not themselves. Huron |

63 | What is this resurrection mean? | Matt 27:52 | Huron | 97262
I would tend toward them being before the Lord. The scripture really isn't clear about what happened after they appeared to the people, so any statement is really conjecture at this point.
64 | Mark 16:9-48 | Mark | Huron | 92809
Anyone have any good material on Mark 16:9-48? Was wondering which manuscripts included it, which ones didn't. Thanks! |

65 | Mark 16:9-48 | Mark | Huron | 92865
Tim, Thanks for the information. My Scofield KJV says that the longer ending was not in the Siniatic or the Vatican manuscripts, but that Irenaeus and Hippolytus quoted the longer ending. Have you any info on the instance where the longer ending was quoted by those early Church leaders? Thanks again! |

68 | Not far from the kingdom of God? | Mark 12:34 | Huron | 104060
What is Jesus saying here when he says that "You are not far from the kingdom of God"? Is he saying that this man is close to understanding about God? Is he saying this man is almost a child of God? Thanks! |

69 | Natural man understanding truth? | Mark 12:34 | Huron | 104166
Scribe, Thanks for your insight. I have been told that natural man is dead to the things of God (Ephesians 2:1 and others). If this scribe hadn't been born again yet, how could he have understood that what Jesus was saying was the truth? Huron |

70 | Natural man understanding truth? | Mark 12:34 | Huron | 104326
Interesting point of view. What you are saying makes a lot of sense to me. In explaining this verse the person I'm conversing with wants me to limit my reasoning to scripture only. Any way to put your response into a scriptural formulation? |

71 | Natural man understanding truth? | Mark 12:34 | Huron | 104428
Very helpful. So, to recap, you don't see any contradiction between this view of understanding the things of God, and us being dead without being regenerated? Huron |

72 | short and long version of Mark 16:8 | Mark 16:9 | Huron | 125330
According to Metzger, the longer version was added. It is not in the Siniatic, or Vaticanus manuscripts (the two oldest). However, in the foreward to my Greek Interlinear NT by Jay P. Green, he claims that although the verses from Mark 16:9 and onward aren't included in the oldest manuscripts, there is a blank space for it's inclusion in one, and extra large text to use up the space in the other. I'd never heard that before! |

73 | short and long version of Mark 16:8 | Mark 16:9 | Huron | 125426
EdB, As you may have seen from my posts, I'm going through the same thing with my investigation of bible versions and the manuscripts/texts used for each one. Generally, I believe that the NASB is the best, but there is a place in my heart for the KJV. Like what is happening with the new versions today, I realize that the KJV had its detractors when it was first printed, and that it had some corrections that were made. Nowdays though, I wonder if the latest translations have a "planned obscelesence". I noticed that my circa 1985 NASB is no longer current. Among other things they decided to use the longer versions of Luke 24:50,51. Nowdays, with gender neutral NRSV, I think we might be going a bit far. Huron |

74 | Help me solve this apparent conflict | Luke 8:15 | Huron | 111769
How would one reconcile this verse that speaks of an honest and good heart, (similar to Acts 17:11),with the general Bible teaching that the heart is desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9)?
75 | Here is where I'm puzzled | Luke 8:15 | Huron | 111825
I'm one hundred percent in agreement with everyone that says that God gives us a new heart when we are in Christ. (Ezekiel 36:26-27) Where I am puzzled is when I see these verses that say (apparently to me anyway) that these folks who received the Word did so BECAUSE their heart was different. To put it another way, it isn't saying that their heart was different AFTER they heard it (although it obviously would be), it appears that the heart in both of these examples was already open BEFORE they heard the Word. Regards, Huron |

76 | Prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32) who is he? | Luke 15:11 | Huron | 96238
In Luke 15:11-32 who are the two sons? I'm convinced that the story illustrates a sinner coming to repentance. I want to be sure that I haven't overlooked any possibilities. Is it possible the two sons represent the Jews and the Gentiles? Any other possibilities that I am overlooking? Thanks and Regards, Huron |

77 | Prodigal follow up | Luke 15:11 | Huron | 96308
In my mind this parable demonstrates that although we are saved by grace through faith, we must make a decision about Christ/receive Him. I see this parable as showing that although the prodigal son was dead spiritually (clearly not following the Lord when he made his decision) God still allows us to choose him. So although God is all powerful, he is still a perfect gentleman and allows us to choose life in His Son. Of course we do this after we realize that we could never earn salvation on our own, but must believe in the Lord Jesus. Would that be accurate? The reason I'm asking this question is that others say that we are dead to God and can't do anything, therefore we can't make a decision for Christ. |

78 | God must first seek the man? | Luke 15:11 | Huron | 96342
NC, You wrote, "before a man can seek God, God must first have sought the man". Doesn't God seek ALL men? (1 Timothy 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.) (The person that I've been talking with believes in single predestination) |

79 | Main point of rich man, Lazarus parabe? | Luke 16:19 | Huron | 180359
What is the essential, main point of Jesus' account of the rich man and Lazarus? Is it that riches won't guarantee treasures in the afterlife? Comfort for the poor? Something else? Thanks! Huron |

80 | What language did Jesus use? Read? Quote | John | Huron | 142526
I have a two part question: What language did Jesus use in His daily life? Hebrew? Aramaic? Chaldean? Greek? I've been under the assumption that Jesus quoted the LXX (Septuagint) mostly. Is this true? If so, and assuming that he knew Hebrew, why didn't he use a Hebrew text? Regards! |
