41 | Bible versions which one is best | Bible general Archive 2 | Huron | 150213
The KJV is an excellant Bible. My favorite though, is the NASB which is use for my daily reading and for study. I also do all of my memory work in the NASB. The only downside with the NASB is that it is a mouthful to read aloud. I also have copies of the KJV, RSV, NIV, and NKJV at home to compare with.

Thanks! I see that Marshall wrote a 427 page paperback published by Eerdmans, and a 765 page hardcover. Which of those is it?
47 | Acts commentary recommendation? | Not Specified | Huron | 147303
What do you consider to be the BEST commentary on Acts? I've read the commentary on James by Douglas Moo, 1 Peter by David's, and am working on the commentary on 1 Corinthians by Gordon Fee. I'm looking for something at about the same level.

49 | is a rich man not eligble for heaven? | Matt 19:24 | Huron | 146000
Jesus didn't say that it was impossible for the rich to be saved. He is simply noting the same thing that Paul would later say in 1 Corinthians 1:26. The poor in spirit tend to look to God, not themselves. Huron |

50 | Justification in Matt 12:37 by our words | Matt 12:37 | Huron | 145970
In what sense are we justified by our words? Is this the same as the word justification used by the Apostle Paul elsewhere in the NT? How does this mesh with Ephesians 2:8-9, and Titus 3:5, that state that we are saved by grace/faith????
51 | Isaiah 7:14/Matt 1:23 | Matt 1:23 | Huron | 142761
Tim, That certainly answers the question for me, but what would you tell someone who asked the same question BUT only believes the OT. Person in question believes the Messiah hasn't come yet, and that the NT was written by heretics. With that background information, how would you answer the question? |

52 | How do we know Isaiah 7:14 was prophecy? | Matt 1:23 | Huron | 142664
Tim, Thanks for the succinct answer! While I see that knowing about the Septuagint clears up some issues, I have another question: How do we KNOW that the Isaiah prophecy was about the Messiah? When reading the verse from Isaiah in context, it seems to me that Isaiah is only addressing the king Ahaz and his immediate situation. Obviously, Matthew saw it as a prophecy and he was a Hebrew on the scene, so he has to be correct, but I have to admit that I'm a little puzzled. Regards, Huron |

53 | Septuagint quoted here in Matt 1:23? | Matt 1:23 | Huron | 142599
Is this a quote of the Septuagint? Anyone look into the "virgin" -vs- young lady issue regarding the translation of Isaiah 7:14? Thanks! Huron |

56 | What language did Jesus use? Read? Quote | Not Specified | Huron | 142492
I have a two part question: What language did Jesus use in His daily life? Hebrew? Aramaic? Chaldean? Greek? I've been under the assumption that Jesus quoted the LXX (Septuagint) mostly. Is this true? If so, and assuming that he knew Hebrew, why didn't he use a Hebrew text? Regards! |

60 | The dead in 1 Pet 4:6 | 1 Pet 4:6 | Huron | 142356
Is it possible to interpret this verse such that it's saying something close to the following: "The gospel has been preached even to those who are now asleep in Christ. Though they are now dead, perhaps due to persecution, they live in the Spirit. Though they are dead now, Christ will have the final say." Thoughts? Huron |
