623 | Can a spirit inform you of something? | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 21614
What do you mean (in spirit) and do you mean that they are predicting the future or what; are they quoting Scripture? You will have to be a little more specific on your question. If you mean gossip that is another story. Spell it out as best you can in order to get the best answer but be careful.
624 | how do you encourage heartbroken | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 21618
The one who is to be encouraged, are they a believer in Jesus Christ? If the one that will receive this Biblical help isn't a believer, then anything that you could give them from the Bible, other then the gospel really wouldn't do them any good anyway, sad but true. Please inform and we will go from there. CDBJ
625 | Wrong to Wear a Cross Necklace? | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 21621
Well since I don't know tray or for what reason it is being worn it makes a big difference. I have run into all kinds and I say this with all due respect. If I say sure that would be nice and it would look nice on them. They might come back and say that the bigger the better for spirit protection. And if it is pure silver it can ward off almost anything. After you experience a few of these, one has a tendency to get the facts before sticking his neck and giving a quote from the Bible. With out elaborating and naming the group that puts a lot of faith in a peace of blessed hand made metal, do you get the picture? I know bunches from my past!! I hope this clears it up, CDBJ
626 | Wrong to Wear a Cross Necklace? | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 21677
My best friend's son whom I have been witnessing to, and seems to be somewhat receptive, rode a motorcycle over to our local gun club the other day. First you must realize that his new wife, of one year, is a Christian. She has contacted me about explaining the way of salvation to her husband. I didn't even know that she was a believer until she called my wife one morning. The way that I found out was that I had given her husband a paper that I had written on the subject of salvation; he read it and laid it down where she found it and called our house the next day all excited about what I had given her husband. Well to make a long story short, I thought that my friend's son was starting to understand what it meant to completely trust in Jesus and commit his life to Christ keeping, until he rode in to the club on his motorcycle with a big Saint somebody metal on his jacket. When I ask him what it was for, acting as though I didn't know, he said that it was to keep him safe while riding his bike. To me it was like a miniature of what Paul must have experienced, Galatians 4:11 I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain. (NASB) I don't know if you have ever heard the story about the time when a drunk staggered up to D.L. Moody and said, hay, I'm one of your converts!! Moody looked at him and said, yes you can surely tell that you are one of mine all right; you sure don't look like one of the Lord's! My primary goal, whenever I meet someone, is to determine if they are a born again Christian. If they are, it starts a time of fellowship, if they aren't; my main object is to find the opportunity and a good time to explain the way of salvation to them without being obnoxious. One must be very cautious that they don't muddy up the water. I have meet a lot of believers that love the Lord and they are very bold, to the point that they are a turn off. Jesus always asks a lot of questions and He never forced Himself on anyone. Sometimes I brake out in a cold sweet when witnessing to someone for fear that I will mess up. The last thing I want to do is to turn someone off about the Lord! I try to be ready to answer everyone who asks me for a reason for the hope that I have in Christ. Well Hank, (now you know the rest of the story.) CDBJ |

627 | Marriage to a Catholic? | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 21732
Are both members that are getting married born again Christians? If one is and the other isn't, the Word of God commands that they not be yoked together. 2 Cor. 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? If both are unbelievers or both are believers, they can even be married by a justice of the peace if the so desire. |

Dear JMR, it wasn't my intention to pit one denomination against the other. I didn't even mention either one in my post. Let me see if I am hearing you right. Are you telling me that because my wife was a practicing Catholic and I was a Protestant, that we were both automatically born again Christians? I can assure you that we were both very much of the two groups mentioned and neither one of us was a Christian, as the Bible describes a Christian. Do you mind if I ask you a question, what is a Christian by your definition and if you use the word believe in your answer, could you pamper me a little bit, by explaining the word believe? This righteousness that you mentioned, what do I have to do to get it? I didn't mean to send anyone off the edge by quoting Scripture; if I struck a nerve I am sorry! A lot of people practice the ritual of religion but they don't have the reality of a personal relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ. There are thousand of people in churches in this great country of ours that don't have a clue where they would go tomorrow if they would die. They hope that they would go to heaven but they are not sure. The Christians of the Bible were sure where they were going, and why they were going there. Sitting in a church every week doesn't make one a Christian anymore then sitting in a garage would make them an automobile! If what I am saying doesn't make sense to you, I pray that you will ask a lot of questions until it does and then you will know exactly what my point was in the post. In love, CDBJ

Apology accepted; I have done the same thing myself. I know how easy it is sometimes for me to let my old sin nature take over. When the Bible talks about the tongue, James 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. There are times when I have everything but the fangs. I have had to use I John 1:9 for this problem several times. I forgive you; just tell the Lord then get up and as Paul said forgetting those thing that are behind I press on. In love, CDBJ |

Yes, I am in full agreement with that. We never know what God might use to start a person thinking in the right direction. Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. |

I would suggest reading the Sign first and to be as those in Berea, which I am sure that you are, as with most that love to study God's Word. Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. |

632 | no gospel equal go to hell? | Bible general Archive 1 | CDBJ | 23813
The problem of ones sins is not the issue any longer since Jesus Christ paid for the sins of the entire world. 1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. The issue now is, what think yea of Christ. John 16:7-9 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9Of sin, because they believe not on me; It is interesting to note that the only sin that the world is being reproved of is that of rejecting Jesus, the Christ of God. That is because Jesus paid for all the rest of the Worlds sins when, he was rejected by God on the cross. The statement in 2 Pet. covers a lot of ground. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Repentance and faith in Jesus are two sides of the same coin. The Greek word for repentance is metanoia, It actually means that one must have a change of mind about the person of Jesus. If they don't, they will parish! CDBJ |

Hank I liked your analogy, it shows you are thinking. It is my opinion that churches grow now days because believers are being feed. I quit going to a particular church years ago because they always had the same thing on the menu, salvation. I needed more meat in my diet once I was saved and starting to grow. I would look a fright, physically, if all I could get to eat were baby food. The problem now days, is that some of those big old denomination don't even offer baby food anymore, if you get my drift. I'll be honest with you I am not even much into singing anymore. I know singing conveys praise but it hurts my throat when it's more then one song. I sure like turning pages in the Bible though on the pastors lead when following a point of doctrin. Someone said that you can usually till if a church is heading in the right direction or is on the right track without even going inside; just see how many of it's members are carrying Bibles in with them! That is a pretty good indication that they Word of God is being taught. CDBJ

My, I must say you have listed quite a collection of problems there; it is interesting to note that all of the comments that you made are coming under the caption of, WHEN DID THE CATHOLIC CHURCH GO WRONG? I think that you were very clear in this presentation but I don't think that they were wrong in all of these points; there were one or two that they were right about. CDBJ

In essence that is what Christ said, Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. There is food for the body and food for the spirit. It is the assimilation of God's Word that causes us to grow spiritually. CDBJ |

Am I to assume that from this response that you are in full agreement with the thinking that was presented in your post? If this were the case, I wish to apologize for the way that my thread came across, you certainly went to a lot of trouble to present it and I commend you for this. I believe some of the points that you presented with regard to Mary are true and factual without a shadow of doubt; but not knowing Roman Catholicism I must say that not a few of the comments are built upon text taken out of context for a pretext. It is common knowledge that members of the RCC place a lot of faith in those that have passed away, and of course Mary doesn't seem to lack in this respect, along with many others that have passed into the next realm. I am not at all familiar with all the different recipients of the prayers of Catholics and of those that they have faith in them. You certainly seem to know what you are talking about when it comes to Catholicism, so if you don't mind I would like to ask you a question. I know that there is no right or wrong answer to this question but I would like your estimation. Just using Mary as the prime example, what percentage of the totality of your personal faith, would you say, is in Mary, on a scale of one to a hundred? Now consider that everyone else that you have faith in must be in this equation also. Example God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit and the many saints that have entered into glory. Again, there is no pat answer, I am just curious about your position because I have never conversed with anyone as knowledgeable as yourself about the Roman Catholic religion. This is not a trick question, because what ever you believe is fine with me I've got nothing to gain either way. CDBJ

If that is the case, am I wrong in thinking that you pray to Mary and if you do, what confidence do you have, or faith or whatever it is that you want to call it, that she hears you and where in the Bible do you get this assurance? Any time that I pray to the Lord I have faith that He hears my prayer and I have faith in Him that He has the power to execute my petition, as He is the one seated on the throne of grace. If I pray to any other then the Lord I would be in direct disobedience to the command of His Word. Hebrews 4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. I can have confidence that my prayers are heard because God has given me the record of such. 1 John 5:11-15 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 14And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. I can personally say that this assurance did not come to me until I put all my undivided trust in Jesus. Oh yes I had hopes of heaven and eternal life but that wasn't the same as the assurance that I have now. The funny part was that I didn't know that people could have such a confidence on this side of the grave. One never misses something that they have never had! The part I like best is that it doesn't depend on me. God revealed to me that, I didn't do anything to get it and I can't do anything to loose it. Praise the Lord, it's all Him with out others assistance or help!! He's my daddy and I love Him!! Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. I lost my dad in Dec. of 1965 when I was 27 years old and it was just several Month's before that in Oct. that my heavenly Father revealed the truth of His Precious Son to me through Scripture and it came alive! I have never needed a go between for my earthly father and my heavenly Father loves me much more then my earthly father ever could. Any time I need to speak with Him He says that I can come personally right up to His throne when I need help. I can honestly tell you friend that I don't have religion at all but I sure have a great relationship with a living loving Lord. Anyone that hasn't found this relationship, and I am not saying that you haven't, sure is missing the greatest thing in life and it's even going to get better. I am in perfect health and couldn't feel better but I can honestly say, as did Paul. Philip. 1:23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Don't get me wrong I'm not looking forward to dying but I am looking forward to death because I know what will follow in the next second!!
