441 | How to "win the world" ? | Bible general Archive 2 | CDBJ | 110098
Often when we sing, in church, I get choked up praising the Lord because God’s grace blows my mind, that He has chosen someone like me, to reveal the truth about His Son too. I tell my wife that I think when I sing that it must make my nose run; you know the resonance and all? I always manage to pull my handkerchief out some time during the song service. You know, guys don’t get emotional like the ladies do, oops! Praise the Lord, CDBJ |

Hi Ken John, We use the NIV in our church and I really don’t like it. I have memorized all the Scripture that I know from the KJV. There are many other translations that I use while studying but as with many I like the roaring diction of the old KJV; it must be the English in me? Here is something you might want to check out. http://www.bible.org/docs/soapbox/conspire.htm Have a great day, CDBJ |

Hi New Creature, No translation was here before 1965 as far as I was concerned!! I was just having a little fun. Actually I was saved while reading my wife’s Bible, which was a Douay Reims version. The Lord saved me when I believed what God’s Word was telling me about His Son Jesus. I then proceeded to Bible whip my wife to death, or should I say to life, for about two months, because I had found out the truth about eternal life. She finally put, as it were, all of her eggs of faith in one basket and realized that Jesus was enough, that Jesus was all she really needed; PRAISE the Lord, He opened her eyes in an instant and God's Word came alive to her also! When I was a new Christian all I could think about was using the beautiful new sword that had been given to me, Ephes. 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: I probably muddied up more water then the Mississippi but boy I sure knew what I had found in Christ and I wanted everyone to have it. When I finally purchased a KJV version it was just like putting the icing on a cake, and I still love it’s old English style although I do use many versions to elaborate on meaning along with the Koine Greek. Isn’t the Lord just precious, CDBJ |

Hi Hank, I love the old KJV but what you are saying is absolutely right. There are just some old dogs like me that have a hard time jumping through some of the new hoops. We are truly blessed with all the translations that are available. The problem with me is that I have memorized all the Scripture that I know from the KJV. I have a difficult time finding a particular verse in a NIV concordance because I’m not exactly sure how the verse goes. I have to find it first in the KJV then look it up in the NIV and the rest of the translations and lastly the Greek. You will notice many times though, when trying to explain something, if it is clearer, that I will use other translations. If the final results would bring a person to a saving faith in Christ I would use anything that is readable. It appears to me sometimes that the NIV changes things just to be different as though they are showing opposition to the KJV and that I have a hard time excepting. When I witness to someone or hold a Bible study I have to use my old KJV because I have it so marked up that I would be like a fish out of water using anything else. Maybe that isn't right but it's just me. Have a great day, CDBJ |

Hi TommyS, The translation that Taleb used is one that is used quit a lot now days, I call it the Koine English, and it is known as the NLT or New Living Translation. It is very enjoyable for just reading but it’s accuracy lacks in my opinion. It is used to reach a lot of young people though and it seems to be real effective. CCBJ |

Hi EdB, Check out the following in the NLT, it isn't even close to conveying what the Greek says. Luke 21:22 NLT For those will be days of God's vengeance, and the prophetic words of the Scriptures will be fulfilled. Nowhere in that verse, in the Koine Greek, is the word Theos , or God, used. The reign and rule of the antichrist is predicted in Scripture and I think that is the period of time referred to in Luke 21:22. In my estimation the exact opposite is in view in this verse and I think it parallels Rev. 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. I think that these verses, in Luke, are warning to believers of the terrible times that will be taking place at the hand of antichrist. If that is the case the translation could have been written as follows. For these be the days of the devils vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. Can you see what I am trying to say? The translators of the NLT in this incidence are trying to introduce their concept instead of conveying what the Koine Greek actually said! 1 Thes. 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. My two cents worth, CDBJ |

Hi EdB, I guess that did come across kind of strong, sorry about that but the way you took it isn’t exactly what I meant! You stated, “Your right this is the Antichrist but it is still God’s vengeance allowing the Antichrist to afflict a world controlled by sin.” I don’t see it as God’s vengeance. Now how do we go about proving our points? Is God’s wrath evil or Good, from what you are affirming, with connection to this period of time in question? Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. If this period, call the tribulation, is from God then is the great flood that destroyed the earth, which was an act of God, not taken into consideration? I am saying that it will be the greatest attack of satanic effect and influence that believers will ever see and it is not the vengeance of God because believers will not suffer God's wrath. The next thing that usually comes up is that Christ was only talking to the Jews, but what about the same thing taught in II Thes buy Paul to the church. 2 Thes. 2:3-5 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? If believers aren’t going to be here for this evil action why does Paul waste his breath teaching it and telling us not to let anyone deceive us?? I know you and Tim have many people that you have quoted from and they also use to say that 150,000 thousand Frenchmen couldn’t be wrong too, but they were! Next, CDBJ |

Hi Tim, My mistake on your behalf about the quotes! When I have both you and Ed barking at my heels I get a little mixed up. Most believers assume we won’t go through the great tribulation because we, as believers won’t suffer the wrath of God. But if in fact the tribulation is the wrath or vengeance of satin and not God then that puts a whole new slant on things. I agree that Christ was talking to Jews and about Jerusalem but these are the signs that will determine when the deceiver will reveal himself. When satin can’t get at the Jews he will go for the next best thing, believers in Jesus. Rev. 12:13-16 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. 14And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. 15And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. 16And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. A small portion of the Jews will be protected in a place of safety and this will infuriate satin and the believers in Christ will be next on the list. Rev. 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. The faith of many believers will be shaken to it’s very foundation because they have been taught that they wouldn’t have to go through such treatment and there will be a great departing from the faith. The only thing that will stop the brutal treatment of believers will be the return of Christ at the rapture. Matthew 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. The last 3 ½ years of Jacob’s trouble will continue but the tribulation for believers will end because the object of satin’s vengeance, the believers, will be removed. The Lord will retaliate against the ones that have been causing us all the trouble as soon as we are removed from the action. 2 Thes. 1:4-6 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 6Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; Paul goes on further to describe when this retaliation form the Lord will take place and it sure sounds like the rapture to me. It appears like God will do two things at once, take us out and pour out his wrath on those that are left. 2 Thes. 1:7-9 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; Notice the timing! 2 Thes. 1:10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. I firmly believe that the Day of the Lord and the rapture will be one and the same day just as it was in the days of Noah and the days of Lot, and this isn’t what my church teaches either! Luke 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? Sorry about getting hackles up, CDBJ |

456 | who was the fourth beast? | Bible general Archive 2 | CDBJ | 112171
This particular beast is the last of the evil beast dominions, as it were, and is known as the antichrist. Daniel 7:11 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. The same thing is shown in Rev. Rev. 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. Rev. 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Jesus speaks of this one. Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Paul also warns of the evil one that is to come. 2 Thes. 2:3-4 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. The word, antichrist, is introduced to us by John of whom there are many but the last one will be the super essence of evil in the world. Have a great day, CDBJ |

Hello wordlover, I know you didn't mean anything by it, it's just a glib saying and I thought I could pull you chain a little bit. In all seriousness though, what you are asking for, with regards to all the names of those that God has spoken to audibly, could probable take the better part of six to eight hours of hard work. That’s asking a little much unless someone might have a file that they have saved with all the exact names on it. Have a great day and don’t give up on the forum so easily, CDBJ |

459 | Who is Elijah | Bible general Archive 2 | CDBJ | 113188
Greetings and welcome to the forum, Your question in Matthew 27 about Elias. Answer is from the Bible Knowledge Commentary: New Testament. Matthew 27:45-50 (Mark 15:33-37; Luke 23:44-46; John 19:28-30). Matthew made no reference to the time when the crucifixion began. But Mark indicated that it began at the “third hour” (Mark 15:25), around 9 A.M. Matthew noted specifically that from the sixth hour, noon, until the ninth hour, 3 P.M., darkness came over all the land. In this period of darkness Jesus became the Sin-offering for the world (John 1:29; Rom. 5:8; 2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Peter 2:24; 3:18) and as such was forsaken by the Father. Near the end of this period of time, Jesus could bear the separation no longer and cried out in a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? These Aramaic words mean, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? (a quotation of Ps. 22:1) Jesus sensed a separation from the Father He had never known, for in becoming sin the Father had to turn judicially from His Son (Rom. 3:25-26). Some of those standing near the cross misunderstood Jesus’ words. They heard “Eloi,” but thought Jesus was trying to call for Elijah (Matt. 27:47). In Greek the word “Elijah” sounds more like “Eloi” than it does in English. Thinking His lips and throat had become dry, someone thought a drink of wine vinegar would moisten His vocal cords so He could speak plainly. Others, however, said to leave Jesus alone and see if Elijah would come and deliver Him. Their jeers were obviously still being directed against Jesus. Have a nice day, CDBJ |

460 | Did Jesus have to die? | Bible general Archive 2 | CDBJ | 113557
Hi Hank, The words, it is finished, in the Koine Greek, John 19:30, come to us from the word TELEO. It was a word that was coined in the slave markets in the times before Christ. When a slave was put on the auction block the highest bidder would pay the price for the slave and as soon as the price was paid they would say TELEO, which sealed or completed the deal. Isn’t it interesting that Christ paid the price for us and liberated us from the slave market of sin and the transaction is complete? Hebrews 10:9-10 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Have a great day Hank, CDBJ |
