582 | why does father come before mother | Eph 5:23 | BradK | 222158
Hello Erick, The simple answer is that the biblical order is followed. Note Chap. 5: Eph 5:22 "Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord." Eph 5:23 "For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body." (NASB) I hope this helps, BradK |

583 | are sinners forgiven? | Eph 1:7 | BradK | 222147
Hello vnct blzn, Forgiveness is found "in Christ". Note Eph. 1:7, "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace" (NASB) Eph. 2:8 tells us, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;" (NASB) Those who are saved have placed their faith in the work of the Lord Jesus Christ and His sacrificial death on the cross. A "Christian" would be one who is a believer in Christ- hence they would be "in Christ" and have forgiveness. I hope this answers your question, BradK |

585 | did the apostle paul murder christians? | Acts 7:58 | BradK | 222141
Hello vnct blzn, Strictly speaking, the apostle Paul did not murder Christians. However, prior to his conversion, Paul (Saul) certainly approved of - and was part to persecutons that took place. Read Acts 7, 8 and 9. In vs. 58 of Acts 7, we read "When they had driven him out of the city, they began stoning him (Stephen); and the witnesses laid aside their robes at the feet of a young man named Saul." (NASB) Acts 8:1 tells us, "Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death. And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles." (NASB) In Acts 8:3 we note, "But Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house, and dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison." (NASB) I hope this helps, BradK |

586 | do not be involved in ways of the world | 2 Tim 2:4 | BradK | 222126
Hello grumpy, There is no direct verse that says, "Christians are not to be involved in politics, military..." However, you may be thinking of 2 Tim 2:4, "No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier." (NASB) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

588 | learning new thinking and acting | Rom 12:2 | BradK | 222094
Hello tennis man, Welcome to the Forum. Since part of your question revolves around psychology, it's beyond the scope and purpose of the SBF and you may get unqualified opinions. However, the truth of Rom. 12:1-2 holds! "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." (NASB) God helps people build new lives. For the believer, His Word transforms their minds and replaces the bad, negative (unbiblical) thoughts with a new mindset. A childhood trauma is a dominating thought or view that most likely is not supported by a Biblical one. As an example: *We are new creatures in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17), * accepted in the Beloved, Redeemed and forgiven (Eph. 1:6-7), * saved to the uttermost (Heb. 7:25). *"There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear". (1 John 4:18), "we love because He first loved us (vs. 19). From my experience, when we begin replacing incorrect thinking (thoughts), with Biblical truth, and meditate upon that, then change takes place. We need to see ourselves as God does! We dilute the bad childhood memories with the truth of what God has told us. It is then, that we start to be "transformed by the renewing of our minds". Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

589 | God speak to us?,if so,then why faith | Heb 11:1 | BradK | 222026
Hello nextman, I think your observation is somewhat confused? Again, Rom. 10:17 says, "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ". Heb. 11:1, reads, "...faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." Scripture does not say "experience is the foundation of our faith"! As an example, in Rom. 4:3, we are told, "For what does the Scripture say? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS." (NASB) It says, "Abraham believed God". He didn't believe "in God" or "experience God, he simply believed what he had been told by God! Similarly, our faith is founded upon what God has promised us in His Word! His promises are true as God is Omnipotent,Faithful, Holy, Righteous, cannot lie, so our foundation is firm. Experience is no foundation for faith due to it's highly subjective nature! 590 | God speak to us?,if so,then why faith | Heb 11:1 | BradK | 222023
Hello talklikebees, Welcome to the Forum. I appreciate your sincere, reflective question. Let me see if I can't assist you in a better understanding. First, are you a professing believer in the Lord Jesus Christ? If you are, then your faith grows by hearing (reading) the Word of God. Rom. 10:17 tells us, "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ" (NASB) The best definition of faith comes from scripture itself. In Heb 11:1 we read, "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen" (ESV) Let's break it down: Another translation reads, "The foundation of things hoped for". Here, the word 'foundation' can mean "substance" or "ground or confidence". The Greek word is 'hypostasis', which means "a setting or placing underneath"- hence it's primary meaning as "foundation". We all hope for many things, but the question is "What foundation or ground do we have for our hope"? From scripture, our hope for eternity rests on the faithfulness of God's promise (cf. Heb. 10:23) Whom do we belive? The next part, "The conviction of things not seen": The word for 'conviction' can also be rendered "evidence' and is from the Greek, 'elenchos'- 'a proof, that by which anything is proved or tested; logical proof, proof that conveys a satisfying conviction to the mind'. (This "evidence" is similarly used in John 8:46, and 16:8). Thayer comments on this by saying, "that by which invisible things are proved and we are convinced of their reality". Following this, Heb. 11:3 reads, " By faith we understand that the universe was created by the Word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible". (ESV) Here is the point: God has spoken! Do we believe what He has said? Second, I firmly believe God speaks to us through His Word (Heb. 4:12), and by our prayer to Him. (Phil. 4:6-7) His "presence" can be felt- as it were- by submitting to and drawing near to God (James 4:7-8) We don't "feel" god (sic), but rather we believe what He has said to us through his Word. We "walk by faith" (Gal. 5:16), where I'd define faith here as simply 'taking God at His Word'! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

591 | what did they drink? | 1 Cor 10:4 | BradK | 221986
Hello alexey, We need to look at Num. 20:8-13, particularly note vs. 11, "Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank.", So, it was physically water that they drank. In 1 Cor. 10, Paul is warning against idolatry and pointing to the Divine provision of God for them. In 1 Cor. 10:4 they drank the same spiritual (supernaturally given) drink. Water was provided by God, through Moses and the rock! I hope this helps, BradK |

592 | Why apostle Paul identifies rock | 1 Cor 10:4 | BradK | 221985
Hello alexey, If I may, sometimes in looking for deeper meaning, we can be looking for something that isn't there! Notice the Amplified Translation and it's references: 1 Corinthians 10:4 - "And they all drank the same spiritual (supernaturally given) drink. For they drank from a spiritual Rock which followed them [produced by the sole power of God Himself without natural instrumentality], and the Rock was Christ. [Exod. 17:6; Num. 20:11.]" This verse reminds us of Num. 20:8, when the Isrealites had no water, and God told Moses what is then quoted in 20:11. I think it reasonable to assume that this rock, a source of water, foreshadowed Christ as the spiritual rock who followed the Israelites. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

593 | Why apostle Paul identifies rock | 1 Cor 10:4 | BradK | 221981
Hello alexey, Are you truly seeking answers or just being argumentative? The answer is contained in the verse Azure provided, 1 Cor. 10;4, "and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ." The reference is to Christ Himself! BradK |

594 | ... | John 5:47 | BradK | 221979
Hello alexey, The point of John 5:47 can be found back in vs. 39, "You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;" (NASB). The scriptures point to and testify of the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ! Additionally, in vs. 46, "For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me" (NASB) I hope this helps, BradK |

595 | Who is Melchizedek? | Ps 110:7 | BradK | 221964
Hello Nextman, Ps. 110:4 takes us back to Gen 14:18-20, where we read in vs. 18, " And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; now he was a priest of God Most High." (NASB) Form this we do know "he was a priest of God". Beyond that very little is said of him in scripture. Heb. 7:3 tells us, " Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually." I hope this helps, BradK |

596 | Why Jesus changed his mind in caring for | Matt 6:26 | BradK | 221960
Hello Finder, Part of the answer can be found in holding to a biblical worldview. In answer you your question, "Are humans really more important than birds?", Yes, they are. The last half of Matt. 6:25, says "Are you not worth much more than they?" The implied answer is yes. We are God's creation, made in His image, and the contex of Matt. 6 makes it clear the God cares for us- His creation. The relational nature of God can be seen in Matt. 1:23, "...AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, "GOD WITH US." The other part of the stems from our sinful nature! We live in a fallen world, subject to the shortcomings of God's intended glory! Jesus did not change His mind. He Himself is the answer. Note John 4:14, "...but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life." (NASB) The problem- sad as it may be- is not people dying of hunger, but rather them dying without Christ! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Hello N S Allen, Welcome to the Forum! Love is definitely the fulfillment of all the law (Gal. 5:14, Matt. 7:12). If I might, an oft overlooked verse on judging was spoken by Jesus in John 7:24, "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." (NASB) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

599 | baptized with the holy spirit | 1 Cor 12:13 | BradK | 221873
Hello vivian2, According to 1 Cor. 12:13, all believers are baptized with the Holy Spirit, " For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit." (NASB) This "baptism" is through the agency of the Holy Spirit. In others words, it is not that we are are baptised 'with' the Holy Spirit as it is 'by' the agency of the Holy Spirit that we are placed into union with Christ! So, if you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, you have been placed into union with Him by the Holy Spirit! I hope this helps, BradK |

600 | die and go to Heaven | Phil 1:23 | BradK | 221869
Hello mmbe, Maybe I can be of help to you:-) Here's what 2 Cor. 5:8 says. "we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home (present- NKJV)) with the Lord." (NASB) So, the verse says, "to be absent from the body and to be 'present' with the Lord". It does not add, "sent to heaven to be with God walking the streets of gold"! That sounds nice, but is more of an embellishment- or stretch- than truth. Paul similarly echo's this thought in Phil 1:23, "But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;" (NASB) Scripture teaches those who are dead and believers are "with the Lord". |
