NASB | Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. |
Bible Question: When a person suffers childhood trauma and grows into an adult and enters therapy, the counselor will often take them back gently and gradually as they are able to handle it through the trauma. In this controlled setting they can begin to relax the hold the event has over them through bad memories and learn new memories. Be transformed by the renewing of the mind with the word. Does anybody have experience working with people helping them build new lives in this way? |
Bible Answer: Hello tennis man, Welcome to the Forum. Since part of your question revolves around psychology, it's beyond the scope and purpose of the SBF and you may get unqualified opinions. However, the truth of Rom. 12:1-2 holds! "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." (NASB) God helps people build new lives. For the believer, His Word transforms their minds and replaces the bad, negative (unbiblical) thoughts with a new mindset. A childhood trauma is a dominating thought or view that most likely is not supported by a Biblical one. As an example: *We are new creatures in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17), * accepted in the Beloved, Redeemed and forgiven (Eph. 1:6-7), * saved to the uttermost (Heb. 7:25). *"There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear". (1 John 4:18), "we love because He first loved us (vs. 19). From my experience, when we begin replacing incorrect thinking (thoughts), with Biblical truth, and meditate upon that, then change takes place. We need to see ourselves as God does! We dilute the bad childhood memories with the truth of what God has told us. It is then, that we start to be "transformed by the renewing of our minds". Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
