503 | Is looking at porn a sin if ur single? | James 4:17 | BMyers | 220884
Mat 5:28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Also, if you look at the definition of lust, it is the intense desire for something. Just because you don't know the individual, doesn't mean you can't lust. Brad |

504 | Can we pray for others sins to be forgiv | James 5:16 | BMyers | 201656
Hi. Seeking forgiveness of sin is an individual matter. The sinner must be the one seeking forgiveness, not someone in his/her place. RO 10:8 But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, RO 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; RO 10:10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 1JN 1:5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 1JN 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 1JN 1:7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1JN 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 1JN 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1JN 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. Yet like Brother John stated, PRAY for the person. 1TI 2:8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Brad |

505 | Ridding myself of guilt and fear | James 5:16 | BMyers | 235225
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.(James 5:16 ESV) I would encourage you, if you are not, find a good local Christian church that you can attend and seek counsel from them. The forum is great place to exchange ideas and thoughts, but not the best place for getting counseling in such a public format. Psalms 32 is a very good read, which you can see confession and forgiveness. Brad |

506 | Jesus descend into hell | 1 Peter | BMyers | 201552
I believe this doctrine/belief is partly based on the following verses: 1PE 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 1PE 3:19 in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, 1PE 3:20 who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. The actual statement comes from the Apostles' Creed. If you study Roman Catholic Church, you will find that part of the creed teaches this, "He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead." I'm not a Bible scholar by any stretch of the imagination and maybe someone else can enlighten us more, but I think this belief/doctrine is based more on the creed than the Bible. Brad |

507 | Jesus descend into hell | 1 Peter | BMyers | 201565
I wish I could enlighten, but as I have stated more than once I'm no Bible scholar. I was hoping someone that is Catholic may have some insight into the Creed (or Lutheran, even church of England). The United Methodist changed the creed some and reads: "was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead;". If you do a search on the Catholic Encyclopedia online, it has an interesting article about the creed and the history behind it. I know very little about the Creed since I’ve attended an Assembly of God church my whole life and the Creed is not something we recite. I don’t know what the Chinese version of the Creed might be? Reading the online article and doing a little research apparently the Creed went through some changes at different Councils. As the debates were going on in the Councils, the Creed was adjusted to make sure it expressed the belief of the Council. At this point you have just about depleted my knowledge on the Creed. As far as the orginal question did Jesus go to hell/hades? AC 2:31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY. As you can tell by my typing, I'm not an English major either, so I read the above verse and can take it either way (He did (but hell couldn't hold Him)or He didn't go to hell (because hell didn't have power over Him)). Is there important Biblical issue I'm missing if Jesus did or did not go to hell? Thanks, Brad |

508 | Jesus descend into hell | 1 Peter | BMyers | 201569
You didn't put me on the spot. I just like to help, but I know my knowledge is limited and I didn't have the knowledge to answer the question completely. My one and only language is English, but you can ask my school teachers, it was not my best subject. My friends make fun of me because I use a lot of 'Bradisms'. You would hope the Apostles Creed would be based on the Bible. Although the title "Apostles Creed" is somewhat misleading. It was not something created by the apostles, but more so by the church leaders that followed after the apostles. One has to be careful when getting into this subject because you can easily step on toes when dealing with church history. The Roman Catholic view on this matter is most likely different than that of a Protestant. In the end, what matters is this view Biblically sound. Right now, (which I haven't went to the link that was posted to read more on the topic) I'm undecided. I'm still trying to decide if it is truly an issue if Jesus went to hell or not? Either way Jesus defeated the grave and hell. I know that is the most important part of this discussion. Brad |

Interesting, I hadn't realized that there were so much debate over this topic. I will agree that the price was paid at the Cross. Hopefully all this discussion has helped the one who posted the original question, but if not it sure has educated me on the topic. Thanks everyone! Brad |

511 | Jesus descend into hell | 1 Peter | BMyers | 201590
Maybe we should start a new topic, but I agree Hank. Many Christians (myself included) don't have the understanding of the Bible or their beliefs (which should be based on the Bible) to know when or if they are being led astray. As my daughter has grown, I realized that I need a better understanding of what I believed and why. If I couldn't explain it to my daughter, I had a real problem. I claimed my Christianity to be the most important thing in my life, but I couldn't explain some of the simplest concepts or field some of the 'beginner' questions. I was raised in church, so it never crossed my mind to 'dig' in and look at things; I just took them at face value. Don't get me wrong, there are many things in the Bible that are that simple and can be taken at face value. Yet as I read and studied more I realized how truly awesome God is! The more you understand about Biblical times and the message in the Bible, the more you can see the love that God has shown to us. I know our Pastor has challenged the congregation not to take him at his word, but research, read, and study to make sure what he is preaching from the pulpit lines up with the Word of God. I could go on, but like I said this could be a topic all its own. If we as Christians had the passion for Christ that he has for us, what a different world this would be. |

512 | hell | 2 Pet 3:9 | BMyers | 228361
First, I’m making the assumption that you believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. Without this belief, a person can say the Bible is made up so anything in the Bible could have just been put there for ulterior motives. Since your question isn’t about the inspiration of the Bible, but Hell, I will try to address that. The word ‘hell’ appears 14 times in the NIV Bible, 13 times in the NASB, and 14 times in the ESV Bible. The translated word ‘hell’ is based off of three different words in the New Testament. These are geenna/Gehenna, hades/Hades, and tartaroo/Tartaros. The English versions of the Bible have translated these terms as ‘hell’ in most places (some use the Greek word). You will find that Jesus discussed ‘hell’ (Gehenna) in Matthew, Mark, and Luke (Luke 16:23 the word is ‘Hades’). In addition, James and 2 Peter mentions ‘hell’. Reading the various verses/passages regarding ‘hell’ in the New Testament shows that ‘hell’ is a very real place and not just some story made up to draw people into church. Brad |

514 | Revelation 20:15 | Revelation | BMyers | 220457
First, the Lord is the only one who truly knows the condition of a person’s soul. What the Bible says on salvation: Romans 3:10, 23 10as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 10:13 13for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." John 14:6 6Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 1:12 12But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, Revelation 3:20 20'Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. Romans 10:9 9that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; (NASB) |

515 | Revelation 20:15 | Revelation | BMyers | 220486
Reading the passage and not just one verse reveals more about. Act 16:30 Then he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Act 16:31 And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household." Act 16:32 And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. Act 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. (ESV) So you can see that the family was also involved, it wasn't just him alone. They preached to his whole family and they were baptized. Through his question of wanting to know how he could be saved, his whole family was saved. |

516 | why is 666 the mark of the beast? | Revelation | BMyers | 221823
18 Here is wisdom Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six. (NASB) The reason is because the Bible says so. Beyond that, people have made different guesses on why the number, but the Bible doesn't say. Brad |

518 | In the tribulations mark of the beast | Revelation | BMyers | 231627
And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, he also will drink the wine of God's wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.” (Revelation 14:9-11 ESV) Brad |

519 | Explain Morning Star in Rev. 28 | Rev 2:28 | BMyers | 206122
This is from MHC: III. We now come to the conclusion of this message, Rev. 2:26-29. Here we have, 1. The promise of an ample reward to the persevering victorious believer, in two parts:—(1.) Very great power and dominion over the rest of the world: Power over the nations, which may refer either to the time when the empire should turn Christian, and the world be under the government of the Christian emperor, as in Constantine’s time; or to the other world, when believers shall sit down with Christ on his throne of judgment, and join with him in trying, and condemning, and consigning over to punishment the enemies of Christ and the church. The upright shall have dominion in the morning. (2.) Knowledge and wisdom, suitable to such power and dominion: I will give him the morning-star. Christ is the morning-star. He brings day with him into the soul, the light of grace and of glory; and he will give his people that perfection of light and wisdom which is requisite to the state of dignity and dominion that they shall have in the morning of the resurrection.
