321 | "I have anointed you king over Israel." | 2 Kings | BMyers | 202634
Is this the passage you are referring to? 2KI 9:1 Now Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, “ Gird up your loins, and take this flask of oil in your hand and go to Ramoth-gilead. 2KI 9:2 “When you arrive there, search out Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in and bid him arise from among his brothers, and bring him to an inner room. 2KI 9:3 “Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, ‘Thus says the LORD, “ I have anointed you king over Israel.”’ Then open the door and flee and do not wait.” 2KI 9:4 So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead. 2KI 9:5 When he came, behold, the captains of the army were sitting, and he said, “I have a word for you, O captain.” And Jehu said, “ For which one of us?” And he said, “For you, O captain.” 2KI 9:6 He arose and went into the house, and he poured the oil on his head and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘ I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel. If so, the answer would be Elisha the first time and "the young man, the servant of the prophet" said it to Jehu following Elisha's directions the second time. |

[Descendants of David] [3:1] These are the sons of David who were born to him in Hebron: the firstborn, Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelite; the second, Daniel, by Abigail the Carmelite, [2] the third, Absalom, whose mother was Maacah, the daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur; the fourth, Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith; [3] the fifth, Shephatiah, by Abital; the sixth, Ithream, by his wife Eglah; [4] six were born to him in Hebron, where he reigned for seven years and six months. 329 | Was it uncommon for daughters to inherit | Job 42:15 | BMyers | 201854
I don't have my reference books here at work with me, but if I remember correctly, it was very unusual for daughters to inherit things. My understanding of the culture of this time period viewed women more as property than individuals with rights. Brad |

330 | "youth renewed like the eagle"?ps 103:5 | Psalm | BMyers | 202162
Here is what Matthew Henry's Commentary has to say: “He has given thee a prospect and pledge of long life: Thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” The eagle is long-lived, and, as naturalists say, when she is nearly 100 years old, casts all her feathers (as indeed she changes them in a great measure every year at moulting time), and fresh ones come, so that she becomes young again. When God, by the graces and comforts of his Spirit, recovers his people from their decays, and fills them with new life and joy, which is to them an earnest of eternal life and joy, then they may be said to return to the days of their youth, Job 33:23. Hitherto the psalmist had only looked back upon his own experiences and thence fetched matter for praise; here he looks abroad and takes notice of his favour to others also; for in them we should rejoice and give thanks for them, all the saints being fed at a common table and sharing in the same blessings. 331 | Dissapointment in this sites response... | Ps 16:11 | BMyers | 199539
Actually, Hank did give you an answer and was just trying to point out the valuable resources this forum offers. Many people, myself included, have overlooked the simple use of the search feature on the forum to discover topics of interest that have been discussed in depth. Another feature of the website (or a concordance) is the ability to enter a word and have it search the entire Bible for you. This is a handy feature when you are looking for a particular word and not just a concept. You stated that you wanted a verse that clearly states oral sex is wrong, if you do a search of the word oral, you will not find it in the NASB, NIV, or KJV. Does this mean it is okay to have oral sex? Nope. It means you need to change your search approach from word to topic. Topical Bibles/Concordances come in very handy when trying to research concepts vs actual words. Did I answer your question? No, I think the other two post have answered the question just fine. My purpose is trying to teach you 'how to fish' vs 'giving you a fish'. |

332 | Verse: small things added up? | Ps 32:6 | BMyers | 223826
6 These things add up. Every one of us needs to pray when all hell breaks loose and the dam bursts we'll be on high ground, untouched. (MESSAGE) The closest I could find was using the paraphrased Message Bible. If you look at the NASB, you will see the verse reads different. Brad |

333 | spoil the child , use the rod | Proverbs | BMyers | 221805
That phrase is not in the Bible. It is from an old English poem Love is a Boy, by Poets styl'd, Then Spare the Rod, and spill the Child. (according to the UK website, spill means spoil). The closest you will find in the Bible is in Proverbs: Pro 13:24 Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him. Brad |

334 | how to handle the situation? | Proverbs | BMyers | 231937
Proverbs 13:24 comes to mind: Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him. Actually the Bible as a whole not just one part. The Bible deals with God dealing with His children, some rebellious, some not. I feel blessed by my little girl so far has not given us any major issues. Yet, she is only twelve, but my wife and I pray over her daily and know that we have to trust in the Lord and do the best we can humanly do to raise her in a Christian home. I'm not perfect and I make mistakes daily, so I can't expect perfection from my daughter, but I can love her unconditionally and just as God disciplines us when we go wrong, we have to discipline our children. 2 Samuel 11 and 12 gives an example of a child of God doing wrong, facing rebuke, and bearing the consequence of the action even after asking forgiveness. 336 | helping my family financially? | Prov 13:18 | BMyers | 200314
Dealing with family and financial issues can be very difficult. You definitely need to get some counseling locally from a Godly pastor or member of your church. Does the Bible give us guidance? Yes, we are to help those in need, but we are also cautioned about contributing to the foolishness and failing to be good stewards of what God has blessed us with. My wife and I have struggled with financial issues and dealing with her family for years. It is a challenge and requires a lot of prayer. You don't want to close any doors that God is opening for you to minister through, yet you don't want to foolishly throw away His money. It is hard to tell a family member no, that you can't or won't help them financially. We have spoken with our pastor and a couple of Godly people in our church. We even made arrangements to get our family members financial counseling and help them get into a program that would teach them, train them, and get them out of debt. Yet after spending all the time and effort, in our situation, the family members just wanted the money. We had done everything we could short of paying the debt for them. My wife and I talked a lot about this because it hurt her deeply. This situation can be compared to what Christ has done for us. Christ made all the preparations and has everything in place, yet you have to be willing to help yourself, Christ isn't going to force you, He stands at the door waiting for you. Better stop here before I type an essay on financial matters. Brad REV 3:20 ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. |

338 | meaning of Proverbs 20:10 | Prov 20:10 | BMyers | 202593
In my humble opinion, what this verse is dealing with is being dishonest. MHC: The various arts of deceiving that men have, all which evils the love of money is the root of. In paying and receiving money, which was then commonly done by the scale, they had divers weights, an under-weight for what they paid and an over-weight for what they received; in delivering out and taking in goods they had divers measures, a scanty measure to sell by and a large measure to buy by. This was done wrong with plot and contrivance, and under colour of doing right. Under these is included all manner of fraud and deceit in commerce and trade. 2. The displeasure of God against them. Whether they be about the money or the goods, in the buyer or in the seller, they are all alike an abomination to the Lord. He will not prosper the trade that is thus driven, nor bless what is thus got. He hates those that thus break the common faith by which justice is maintained, and will be the avenger of all such. The question is are you being dishonest with your customer? I know business will give some customers 'breaks' due to the volume of their business. I don't see that as trying to stealing. Just my two cents. Brad |

340 | the righteous may fall 7 times-proverbs | Prov 24:16 | BMyers | 198162
If I'm reading it correctly, Proverbs 24:15-16 is one sentence/proverb. PR 24:15 Do not lie in wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; Do not destroy his resting place; PR 24:16 For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked stumble in time of calamity. Reading the whole proverb is a warning to those who plan evil against the righteous. The righteous man may fall, but he will be restored. The wicked will ultimately end in destruction. |
