Hello, Jim :: Not only do I extend to you a hearty welcome to Study Bible Forum but congratulate you as well upon your having filled in your User Profile concurrent with your very first post. ....... Firstborn simply means the offspring who came first in the order of birth; the eldest child in a group of siblings. ....... From Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary: "First-born sons enjoyed certain special privileges (Deut. 21:17; Gen. 25:23, 31, 34; 49:3; 1 Chron. 5:1; Heb. 12:16; Ps. 89:27). The 'first-born of the poor' signifies the most miserable of the poor (Isa. 14:30). The destruction of the first-born was the last of the plagues inflicted on the Egyptians (Ex. 11:1-8; 12:29,30)." ...... Again welcome, Jim, with every good wish that you may find in Lockman's Bible Forum a place both to learn more about God's word and to teach it to others; a place both to be enlightened and to let your light shine before others. --Hank | ||||||
