To MommieSadie, The Word of God is companionship and should be examined for its richness in the Bible. Read the Book of Love which is John(New Testament) as many times as it takes to have a breakthrough that speaks directly into your heart. Find a good commentary book like "The MacArthur New Testament Commentary Matthew 1-7" to read a true expounding of Jesus' Sermon on The Mount. Let this great expositor John MacArthur help enrich the bible for you that you can see deeper into the Word of God and start to feel the love that exists in Gods Word for you. I would suggest you go to a local large vibrant Holy Spirit filled church that has lots of resources to help you in every way that you need help. Let your local fellow Christian believers shower upon you the Grace of God through their loving and caring actions for you, and with you. But, you must take a step like a baby taking her first faltering step. Take one day at a time and ask for help at your local church. Realize that it may take years to get where you will be a strong enough Christian to realize God has been with you all along. If you have ever listened to a Sermon that caused the hairs on the back of your neck to raise then it is an indication that the Holy Spirit is bearing witness with your consience that the words you are hearing are true. Right now, read this and feel the hair on your neck raise...We who are reading your words feel your pain and want to point you to Jesus who can heal your hurting heart. Know that God will come to you like he came to many of us...in a still small voice and say to you also..."You are a lost lamb". Repent and atone for your sins and put your faith in Jesus that you will find salvation. Also, to protect yourself from making further bad choices that might make your life an even bigger mess do not publish your home address on the internet. There are dangerous people who would love to exploit your vulnerabilities and you do not need further damage caused by someone you thought was a Christian. In the name of Christ I pray for His peace to come to you and bring you everlasting peace through salvation. Love you, MWLaine |

Oh, my... Yes, I concur with Brother Jeff... Our faith does, indeed, have an experiential factor. That is because it is true. However, it is a great error to teach that experiences can lead us to right conclusions about the work of God. We in the forum affirm the supreme authority of the Scriptures. We are a Study Bible Forum, not a Study Experience Forum. This affirmation is crucial, per the terms of use, of anyone who wishes to participate in Lockman's SBF. In Him, Doc |

How to respond??? Thank you Doc for your concern. I am clueless as to what you mean "to teach that experiences can lead us to right conclusions about the work of God." I don't think I alluded to that at all in my encouragment of MommieSadie but you must think so. Also, I am not knowing why you feel the need to use a subtle threat about the terms of use in Lockman's SBF but I am sure you might wish to enlighten me. Nevertheless when I find a wounded man(or woman) lying in the road I feel a compulsion to take care of that person. Maybe a review of the tale of the good Samaritan would be in order for your future Study Bible Forum. As in Proverbs does the wise man accept rebuke? Yes he does!!! But did you give me anything I could gnaw on? NOPE. Also your use of "We in the forum" must make you believe I am not included as one who believes in the supreme authority of the Scriptures. Pure hubris. Be careful...Prov 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling. Now if you were David, and knowing that I have just thrown a stone at you, would you have your soldier kill me? Yours in Christ, MWLaine |

Dear MWLaine, Retracting the experientialism statement of your fourth paragraph of post #181269 is helpful. Lockman's emphasis on the authority of Scripture gives us a solid foundation from which to work together in our study. We want to be very careful to avoid teaching people that they can draw the truth from any other source than the Word. Consequently we follow the example of Christ Himself by asserting "It is written!" The world uses words like "feel," "suppose," "experience," and "opinion." Ours is a faith built on the solid rock of the revealed Word of God (Hebrews 1:1-2). It is also encouraging to see someone respond in a Christ-like fashion to correction rooted in the Word (1 Thessalonians 2:13). The fruit of the Spirit doesn't speak to goose bumps, emotions, or experiences. :-) When a single person responds to the Word, that is clearly evidence of the work of the Holy Spirit, far more so than thousands of people feeling something! Thank you for your post. In Him, Doc |
