Hi Lillies of the field, I commend your tenacity in this topic. I also appreciate your use of much Scripture in your posts, since that's what we are here for - to study the Bible together. However, I wish to suggest to you that continuing this thread may not be the most productive use of your time. This subject has been discussed, disputed, and downright argued over for years on this forum. Many of the members of this forum have differing but equally stongly held beliefs about the gifts of tongues, and have had a long time to develope arguments in support of those beliefs. You will find that on this forum, as on many forums, that there are certain subjects that just aren't very productive to pursue very far. It can be meaningful to give a Scriptural answer when asked a question, but to engage in a long, drawn-out debate tends to draw people away from more fruitful activities. A long discussion with people who are exploring a topic with you can be wonderful, as we build on each other's insights, but extending a disagreement as we try to convince each other rarely yields fruit. You may disagree with this, I offer these thoughts based on my experiences, and with the hope of benefiting you. One such thread on tongues in which many of the same arguments on both sides were offered, about 5 months ago, begins with post 172276. I would recommend to you to read the entire thread so you can get a better idea of what I am saying. I will also let this reference stand as my contribution to the subject, as that thread contains what I believe about this topic. I hope that you will receive this things in the spirit in which I offer them, and I look forward to your positive contributions to this forum. One other thing I would like to add. Even as a native English speaker I benefit greatly from Word Spell Checker, so I can appreciate your writing in other than your native language. For my longer posts, I will often write them in Word, then copy them into the "Note" box, after I've let my computer spellcheck. Again, I only say this wishing to help! Love in Christ, Mark |

Thank you very much for your kind explanation and for your kind suggestions. I am a person who was mearly trying to find a Christian forum, I just automatically presumed that people who posted and discussed on this forum just automatically had the faith in the bible's teachings. My goal was not to argue, but to transmit my love for the Word of God. It would seem the mistake is all mine because I did not wish to adress people of other denominatins than my own. I will mearly move on to were the Spirit brings me, since I am not a baptist, my faith and my explanation of the Gift of the Holy Spirit as an Evangilical Chirstian of the Pentecostal denominations just does not seem to be understood on here. My goal on here was not to present an argumentative stance, but mearly to transmit the pertinant answers to a very pertenant questioning on something I just happen to do when ever the Spirit moves me to do so during an average day, and to present the questioner with the biblical scriptures that accompany it... Of course, if one is not in the same faith as my own, one would tend to misconscrew my answers as argumentative and as an inviation to debate. Which it is not. I shall do before leaving what has been requested of me, to present who I am. You may read about who I am in my profile by clicking on my name. Be blessed all... * You understand that the Forum does not provide the advantage of live, personal interaction. Therefore, the use of humor or extreme brevity in a written message could sometimes be misunderstood and, at times, cause frustration, discouragement or conflict with others and should therefore be avoided. |

Dear Lilies, You wrote, "It would seem the mistake is all mine because I did not wish to adress people of other denominatins than my own. (sic)" I just did a Google search on "Pentecostal Forum" and there were over 900 hits! I'm certain that somewhere in there you will find a group of people with whom you will feel comfortable. Probably there are folks who will agree completely with you and one another, accepting the Bible in a fashion that allows them to be comfortable in the beliefs that they have chosen to embrace. Perhaps as your spirit moves you from place to place you will chance on such a forum quickly. Our kind host, Lockman, chose the title "Study Bible Forum" because it wanted to emphasize the study of the Bible itself. In addition, they have wisely provided a careful explanation of how the forum is to be used. From the name, through the front page, and on into the particulars of the terms of use, everything has been stated very clearly. In addition, there are many forum members who are happy to help direct you into a proper integration within the community. (Many of those forum members have invested years in the study of the Bible and are more than willing to render up those things that the Holy Spirit has taught them from the Word.) I do not know Pentecostal practices per se, however, I am certain that there will be many such indicators in other forums to make your integration go smoothly. May the Father, our Lord God, continue to grant the opening of His Word to you through the Holy Spirit, to the end that your love for Christ may grow and your life may look more and more like His own, to the eternal glory of God. "And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God." (Colossians 1:9-10 ESV) In Him, Doc |
