Your right however in having engaged in discussions with many self confessed Agnostics I have found they attempt to play it safe. As I posted I view their prayer this way "Dear God if there is a God, and if you can hear me and are listening please help me if you can help me. They don't really say there is a God or not, or that God has power or not, or that you can ever get to know him or not. Your right most say God is unknowable but that also God's actions are equally unknowable. Therefore they like to cover all the bases. Kind of like buying insurance. Gnostics are believers it is just their approach that is different. They believe God is approached through knowledge and your absolutely right Agnostic is defined as the opposite of Gnostic however lacking a better term and the fact in actually they act as they do I think Agnostic really defines a person that sets in the middle of the fence between believer and Atheist. EdB, My personal impression of a gnostic is someone who believes that God can be known through the acquisition of knowledge, wherein saving grace is not necessary to get to heaven. Rather, salvation is accessed through having heightened supernatural sensitivities through years of studious practice, and the work of the Holy Spirit is not really necessary. Just so long as you get smart enough, then you're fine. I think this is how the ancient gnostics were anyway. As far as agnosticism goes, you're probably right. I'm not so much granting vast credence to traditional dictionaries as maybe I should. Rather, I am more practically interested with the belief systems of the agnostics that I've met in real life. I find it rather difficult to concisely label people, and traditional dictionaries fall quite short, in their attemtps to do so, with their concise one-liner definitions. - Reighnskye |

Reighnskye Once again I agree and that is why I gave a example of how an agnostic might pray. EdB |
