Who specifically closed the canon of scripture? I always thought that it was the Catholic Church, but I could be way off here. What specific church fathers are you referring to? What are their names?

In effect the church fathers were the Catholic church since the only church that existed from Christ until about the reformation was the Catholic Church. There was a split into the Eastern and Western Church but the Cannon was closed long before that. I don't have a list of names of the men that closed the Cannon. As I said you have to take it by faith that God gave these men direction. I understand these men were truly men of God and sought nothing for themselves only to do the will of God. In any case since there are no more Apostles of Christ or eye witnesses alive and since Jesus said the next great event would be His return I have no problem with the Cannon as it stands. EdB |

Where is Jesus' statement you paraphrased, Ed? I've probably read over it a hundred times. That's what I get for using the NIV. I read it too fast and overlook too much. KJ makes me think, and the older I get, the harder that gets. GB |

GB I'm not sure it is stated as such. Jesus talked about his return and I guess by the fact of omission we can assume nothing else will occur before. I would think if something else was to take place such as a “great prophet” say Mohammed (not) Jesus would have told us to watch for him but instead Jesus said watch for Me. Further there are no prophesies that must be fulfilled before Jesus’ return that would prophesize a coming future revelation. So this is conclusion is more or less reached out the silence rather than a verse saying you got everything your ever gonna get. EdB |

Is there a chance that after Jesus' physical return to earth, that the written bible will alter or take different form? In other words, it is my belief that imperfect human languages cannot contain the uncompromised totality of divine truth in a book. However, after Christ's return, one may possibly surmise that perfect angelic tongues (superior to any imperfect mortal tongue) would be more able to relay divine truth more precisely than the current written canon of scripture. Would this hold any merit?

Since none of us has been endowed with the gift or the revelation to state in detail and with precision future events, including whether angels will rewrite the Bible after Christ's second advent, I propose that it is vastly more prudent to replace speculation with fact and stand on the truth of 2 Timothy 3:16. --Hank
