Hi EdB, You quoted Exodus 3:15 for expressing the name of God, that is, saying that He is the Lord God. He is indeed the "Lord God," NKJ, or "The Lord, the God of your fathers", NASB, or "Jehovah the God of your forefathers," NWT. However, I was surprised that you did not quote verses 13 and 14 for God said to Moses "I AM WHO I AM". Who sent Moses? Moses says in verse 13 "The God of your fathers has sent me to you." What he is told to tell them is, "I AM has sent me to you." That brings out the importance of verses like John 14:6 to the Christian believer. From the heart, Ray |

Ray I should have added when I refer to God I do it in one of three ways. As God which is a definition or title, but since He is the only true and living God it makes this title unique and usable also as a name. Father God because he gave me a privilege of calling Him Father, or I call Him Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as He declared His name to be forever. EdB |

Hi EdB, I find it of interest that the pronouns for God in Exodus 3:15 total seven, which is a good complete number. :)) I find it of interest also that we know that it is not talking of three Gods, that is, the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. We know that because of verse 16 where it talks of the singular God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. If we were to choose one pronoun out of the seven would it not be, "the (God) of your fathers"? And Moses was saying that "The (God) of our fathers has sent me to you." And verse 14 says, "I/ am has sent me to you". In other words God says "I am who I am". I am the God of your fathers who sends you. I like to compare/contrast verse 13 and 14 with John 15:16-19. "But (I) chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain...but I/ chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you." The Lord [YHWH] is the (God) of their fathers and they did not choose Him, but (He) chose them. From the heart, Ray |
