Matt. 17:20 Part c. If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed,ye shall say unto this mountian, Remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove and nothing shall be impossible unto you. some time we are looking for certian words, and they are not there, but to release your faith means that you put it into action, and maybe I am understanding this verse in the wrong context, but What Jesus is speaking of here is releasing of your faith. Some time we live beneath our priviledges because we do fail to release our faith. thank God for his love grace and mercy. God is so patient with me I'll say. Peace be unto you my brother or sister. be blessed. |

I believe you are correct in your understanding of the term 'release your faith'. Faith without coresponding action is dead faith. In the book of Hebrews chapter 11, the 'hall of fame' of faith as it is called note that every person mentioned DID something with the Word of God. They OBEYED the Word of God and saw God perform miracles in their lives. The ultimate fulfillment, Jesus, however, they did not see in their living years. Faith must be sown to produce, otherwise it is like seed in a package, seed that will never produce. Often we mistake 'hope' for faith. We may hope God will do a certain thing but faith applied to the promise enables the Holy Spirit to produce the result. Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. God bless God bless |

Greetings Graceful! It is unfortunate my friend that so much of what Scripture has to say about faith is obscured by what so many are teaching about faith today. You are correct that Hebrews 11 details a list of people who did something as a result of their faith. Yet, notice the order. They acted because of their faith - faith was the basis of their actions. Hebrews 11 does not list anyone who 'claimed' what they wanted in a package of verbal seed and then received it. It lists people who had faith in a God they could not see and promises that had not yet received, yet acted in obedience anyway. To many have turned 'faith' into some sort of magical spell. 'Faith' is nothing more and nothing less than our trust or assurance in God. Allow me to illustrate. Let's suppose that you and I plan a trip to meet one another face to face. We e-mail back and forth and agree to meet half-way (where ever that is :-) ). I gas up my car and start driving. Have you arrived at the location yet? Do I know for a certainty that you will be there? No! But, I have faith that you will keep your word and act accordingly by doing my part. This is what faith is, the willingness and ability to act upon the promises of God - even though we have no concrete reason to do so. By faith, Noah built and ark even though it had not ever rained - v. 7. By faith, Abraham went to where he had never been before - v. 8. By faith, Joseph gave instruction concerning the future exodus of Israel - v. 22. The list goes on and on. None of these 'events' were produced by the faith of these individuals. The only thing that was 'released' was their obedience and willingness to act upon God's promises, even though they had no yet received the promises. But, their faith did not produce the fulfillment of the promises. God did that! What is being missed in these times is that goal of faith is not to get what we what, but to live in the way God wants. I realize your post contains much more than this simple statement...but we have discussed all this in the past and your questions have not changed and neither have my answerw, so I am leaving that alone. but I do have one question regarding the following statement... "But, their faith did not produce the fulfillment of the promises. God did that!" Would God have been able to fulfill His promises in these people's lives had they NOT had faith? God bless |

Greetings Graceful! Since we are keeping it brief - Yes, if He choose to do so! :-) The simple fact remains that nothing in Heb. 11 was brought about by faith, but because of faith. That is very different from what is being taught today. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

That really is the bottom line of the matter is it not? So Abraham would have received a son whether he had faith or not? What prompted him to obedience? Would Noah have escaped the flood had he not had faith in God's Word and built the boat? I would have expected this response from John Reformed. Needless to say, I totally disagree. Faith(that works) in God's promises from Adam and Eve to Mary and Joseph paved the path for Jesus to enter this world. God bless |

Gracefull. What is the source of the mighty acts that Scripture records? Is it faith or is it God? Was Jesus able to heal the sick, restore sight to the blind, and bring the dead back to life because He had faith? I fear that so often we speak of the power of faith when what we mean, or ought to mean, is the power of God. Faith in faith has no power at all -- no more in fact than prayer to a false god does. --Hank | ||||||
