CHEBANNE: In the first century church, when Christians came together for worship and fellowship on the first day of the week, what time of day did they meet? The Roman government did not recognize Sunday as a special day of rest or worship. No one was allowed to take Sunday off so they could meet with the church. Therefore, logically, the first century Christians did not meet at 10:30 a.m. on the first day of the week. The only time off work or from their duties as slaves was at the end of the work day, in the evening. My point is first century Christians did not hold protest rallies or sign petitions to fight against the Roman government. They rendered unto Caesar the things which were Caesar's and unto God the things which belonged to God. It is true that the Bible says we ought to obey God's law, not man's. But in the context they were not speaking of the Roman civil law, but of the Jewish religious laws. Today all too many people misuse and misapply the verse about obeying God's law rather than man's. They leap from what that verse says and means in the context to the idea that they now have the freedom to disobey any law that they don't happen to agree with. Freedom to disobey laws with which one does not agree is not at all the same as obeying God rather than man. We are told to obey the laws of the land. Further we are told that the powers that be are ordained of God. I urge you to consider these points, and also to seek God and prayerfully consider what He would have you to do in your specific situation. I am not telling you what to do, but am merely pointing out some Scriptural guidelines for you to be aware of. May God lead, guide and direct you in your course of action. Grace and peace be multiplied unto you. kalos |

Chebanna, Greetings to you in the name of our Glorious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I saw Kalos' answer to your question and wanted to take a look at it myself so that I could see what the context of the question is. I personally believe, very strongly, that when a country offers religious freedom, any time that freedom is challenged it needs to be taken to the court of law if possible, and honestly, if they do not change it, then I do believe that you have the right to take a stand for your convictions. Kalos, you did give some good scriptures but now I ask you to consider the book of Acts. In the book of Acts the believers were arrested and put in prison because they obeyed God by worshipping Christ, and by preaching Christ constantly. I look at all the laws that have been twisted in my own county, USA, which I now challenge of a daily basis, and I will continue to do so. They have outlawed the Pledge of Allegiance due to the phrase Under God; they have told our Children that they do not have a right to gather together in the public school systems. They try to stuff tolerance to homosexuality, abortion, secular humanism (which is a religion), and now we are even seeing Colleges who are trying to insist that Freshman go to classes on Islam. Should I as a believer let this continue, or should I obey the LORD Jesus Christ who inspired the Word of God, and obey God rather then men. Also please think more on your view that this was in regards to Jewish religious law and not Roman Civil law. I think if you read it more, and pray about it, you will see that it is both. Remember brother, I may be disagreeing with you, however I see a man who loves the Lord, and who just needs to do some more study on it, and I will do some more study on it as well. If I am wrong, I promise you will here from me again with an apology. In Christ, Pastor Paul Is. 6:8 Pastor/Co-Founder Blue Bonnet Ministries |
