Answering from another point ... Four 1. 1629 Cambridge Edition 2. 1638 Cambridge Edition 3. 1762 Cambridge Edition 4. 1769 Oxford Edition Spelling was not standarized in the Modern English language until the 18th century A.D This means that the spelling of the words found in the King James Version were not standarized in the 1611 version. 1. There are approximately 400 textual differences between the 1611 King James Version and the 1769 King James Version. 2. These differences came about through the correction of typographical errors. 3. In 1611 itself, two Oxford editions of the King James Version were printed by the same printers on the same printing press; yet, there were 100 textual differences between them due to typographical and italics errors. 4. It is estimated that over 70 percent of these typographical errors were corrected by the time the 1638 Edition of the King James Version was printed, and 100 percent of the typographical were corrected by the time of the 1769 Edition. 5. None of the textual corrections were made for the purpose of updating the language or correcting translation errors. They were simply made for the purpose of correcting typographical and italics errors. Also, changes were made in some of the marginal references. 6. By way of comparison, there are approximately 60,000 textual differences between the 1769 King James Version and the 1979 New King James Version, and the New King James translators did not limit their changes to orthography or typography. Instead, they published an entirely new translation of the Bible based upon different underlying texts. This means that there are 150 times more changes in the New King James Version of the Bible. Source: John A. Kohler,III http://www.geocities.com/onlytruth4him/revisions.html My questions are 1. Can anyone read the 1611? 2. When KJV preach, do they speaketh the language of the text read? Searcher: Bless you! That was more than I had hoped for. Yes I do have a reprint of the orignal KJV. Reading is slower becauses the letters are different v is u ans many more like this. The spelling is very simular to mine at times, and in some cases it;s a struggle to get the word others are quite easy. I could led some to Christ with it! so at it's, most odd reading in 1611 to now Th e basic word remains basicly the same as near as I can tell. So you got a big hand shake and a God bless you, well dome! Ye doeth well in instruction of the brethern. Here are a few examples of odd spellings. Mark was Marke, sins sinnes, Son Sonne, Forgive forgue, John Iohn, John 3:16 "For God so loued y world, that he gaue his only begotten Sonne: that whosoeuer beleeueth in him, should not perish, but haue euerlasting life." So ye can seeth it is not also beyondthe the vernderstanding of vesens today. By the way The 1611 had the "Apocrypha" which was take out some where along the line. This is all very interesting to me. I hope youas well. Nelson published a word for reprint of the 1611 in 1982 which I think I remember it was rather costly for a hard back. I do not know if it is still in print anylonger. agape, justme |
