goodbook, The question of Catholics and Mary was addressed at great length last December. The discussion started with the question: How did The RC Church come up with the title Mary Queeen of Heaven. I, being a Catholic, offered an answer and we we off. If you wish to view the discussion it is easily accessed in the archives. You need not fear being overwhelmed by Catholic brainwashing since I was vastly outnumbered. :-). But the discussion does offer a Catholic explanation, however inadequate, of Marian beliefs as well as the standard rebuttals and accusations, not excluding heresy and idolatry. Look to the upper right of the screen for the Scearch box and type in the number 26026 and hit enter. Then you can follow the whole discussion if you wish. Emmaus |

Greetings Emmaus! I checked out that discussion - too much for me to digest at this hour! But I did want to note that the first reference to the Queen of Heaven is in the Old Testament beginning at Jer. 7:18. I doubt that you would ever want to ascribe Mary, the mother of Jesus with this title. She was a Babylonian goddess that Israel had chosen to worship. I believe that the "Queen of Heaven" could represent the conglomerate of false doctrine that has run rampant in the world just as Jesus warned us about in Mt 24:4 . . . Reading in conjunction with many passages in The Revelation, it appears that this portrayal of heresey could also be the woman riding the beast Rev 17:3. Could she further reveal herself when she asserts that she is a "queen" and not a widow?(Rev 18:7) She needs no King or Husband to reign! We would all do well to heed this warning issued in Rev 18:4 - "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues;" I believe we must carefully examine the Scriptures! For if the Israelites, who had the very visible presence of God in their midst, could fall into idolatry, what makes us think that we are less vunerable? We must be discerning to differentiate between teachings of men and the teachings of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires." 2 Tim 4:3 God's Word tell us to hold fast to the teachings of Jesus. Mary, Jesus' own mother agreed with God when she told the servants at the wedding of Cana: "Do as HE says!" John 2:5 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments." John 14:15 But bear in mind that it is Jesus who bids US to obey - not Mary! Blessings my brother! Mommapbs |
