Thanks, Makarios, for an informative post regarding the new-fangled NIV. What stopped me in my tracks in your note was the last sentence: that there are now 70 translations in English of the Bible or parts of it. How sparse! I think we should have at a bare minimum four or five hundred. We can always build barns in our backyards to house them..... Of course, there is a viable, if not so garish, alternative to this madness. We could choose a decent translation that is faithful to the ancient manuscripts, sit ourselves down, and actually read and study it. Or is this just too, too mundane to assuage our eternal itch for the new and the dazzling? --Hank | ||||||

Greetings Hank! Thank you, and I agree with you: what is the reason for this new "TNIV"??? What is/was wrong with the original NIV? Unless I see a specific reason that displays a NEED for the NIV to be updated, then not one cent of my earnings will go towards a TNIV (or NIVI). But now I am strongly discouraged in even buying a regular NIV, since the International Bible Society seemingly has no faith at all in their own bestselling translation, believing it to be riddled with errors, it seems. Well, if the translators of the original NIV feel that it is full of errors and needs a revision, then who am I to argue with them? After all, the NIV is only 24 years old! Thats hardly enough time to see if it stands the test of time, like the KJV. And already, the translators of the NIV seek to replace it? It all seems very odd to me. Blessings to you, Makarios |
