It is a horrible idea for Christian churches to give an audience to Muslim speakers, for the same reason it would be to give a Satanic priest an audience. Islam is a false religion that denies every single tenet of the Christian faith that leads a person to salvation. The pulpit is for the proclamation of truth, not the propagation of damnable lies. There are plenty of people who are Christians who know Islam in and out and would be perfect people to educate the congregation on Islam's tenets vs. Biblical truth. There are also many former Muslims (now Christians) who could fill that place much more effectively than any false teacher. --Joe! |

Joe, very regretfully I know from first-hand experience what a horrible idea it is to invite someone from a non-Christian faith to speak in a Christian church. Some years ago I was leading a seminar at the church I attended at the time on world religions and thought it would add zest and sparkle to invite a non-Christian to the group to speak of his faith. Did that ever backfire! It added far more zest and sparkle than I'd bargained for. The guy was witty, charming, and persuasive. By the time he wound down, I was mortally afraid we would lose at least half of our class to the other faith! I devoted the next session entirely to damage repair, to refuting the claims our charming guest had made..... False religious teachers, whether they are cults posing as Christian believers or confessed believers in a pagan religion, can and do indeed paint a pretty picture. It is easy enough to be deceived unless we are well grounded in the faith and stand firm in the truth....... The real danger lies not in Christianity's lack of truth with which to defend itself, but in the sad fact that so few Christians are effective apologists for their faith. Some of these non-Christians know more about the Christian faith than many Christians do. They are masters of deceit and can pervert the truth to their own hellish ends. --Hank | ||||||

Thanks for this story. It reminded me of the Parliament of Religions that was held in Chicago in 1893 and the pluralism it led to in the 20th century. If you have never heard of that, do a web search on it. It is not that commonly-known, but it did have a dramatic pluralistic impact on the 20th century. --Joe! |
