Greetings Joe! You wrote: "The online debate between Tim Moran and myself, for example (even though I think he is as wrong as he thinks I am), has served both to help me clarify my own thinking and understand the perspectives of others." I agree with you on both points! I do think you are as wrong as you think I am! :-) And, I agree that debate sharpens our beliefs. I also agree with a point that you have made quite well in the past, that our theology is important because it determines our conduct. The fact is Christians do look at things differently. Our world views shape our theology. The biggest filter being (in my opinion) the Calvinism and Arminianism debate. You can probably tell someone what I believe about a verse simply based upon your knowledge that I am Arminian in theology, and I could probably do the same for you. Where am I going with this: I am uncomfortable with any limitation of debate other than civility and free will. I say, have at it! As long as we are respectful to each other, as long as we are basing our views on Scripture, debate and discuss as long as someone is willing. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
