smswann The answer to your question is no where in the Bible does it even hint that Jesus went to Hell or Hades to retrieve any key. The implication is that Satan who many believe that he lives in Hades had the power of life and death. This whole assumption is incorrect. First Hades or Hell is the holding place of the dead not the abode of Satan. Satan prowls the earth seeking those he can destroy. Job 1:7 1 Peter 1:8. Satan is not in Hell or Hades nor is he lord over it. Satan wants no part of hell, has no power there and it isn't his fate. His fate is the Lake of Fire. Rev 20:10 Further Satan does not have the final decision in death for God forbid him from taking Job's life, therefore we see God in fact has the deciding power of who dies. Job 2:6. So if Satan never had the keys of death Hell and the grave and Jesus said in Matthew 28:16 that He was given all authority in Heaven and Earth then we must assume God held the keys and because of Jesus' obedience of going to the cross gave them to Jesus. The teaching as you stated it is without scriptural support and shows a weak understanding of the Sovereignty of God and an inflated perception of Satan’s power. And is just plain wrong! EdB |
