1 | Matt. 5:13 | 2 Tim 1:14 | New Creature | 104405 | ||
Greetings Makarios James Burton Coffman is one of the leading authorities in the Church of Christ. The Coffman Commentaries written by James Burton Coffman are reproduced by permission of Abilene Christian University Press, Abilene, Texas. You can view the Coffman Commentaries at studylight.org While I don't personally agree with all the teachings of that denomination, I did however find that I could agree with Mr. Coffman where I have quoted him. I hope this answers your question Peace New Creature |

Thank you, New Creature; I appreciate the information on James Burton Coffman. Many times it is good to know a particular 'bent' of an author of a particular commentary just to know somewhat of how they came to their reasoning on certain passages, a curiousity of which I am sure that you are conscious of. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Gretings Makarios I agree. It is essential to know the theological bent of Commentary authors. As we all know, you can go to a Calvinistic Commentary and can get a Calvinistic view on scripture, or you can go to an Arminian Commentary, and get a differing view on certain Scripture. Or you can go to other Commentaries and get some other varied, and slightly different view of the same Scripture. I often quote from Commentaries, when I sense that the Commentary author is correct, and omit him if I sense otherwise. It's best to just believe Scipture, and avoid Commentaries since Commentaries and footnotes can be, and often are misleading. We need to exercise discernment and caution in using them. I'm sure you agree. Peace to you New Creature |
