1 | Biblical - women preachers/teachers??? | 1 Tim 2:12 | EdB | 123563
Kalos You said or rather quoted ""I personally think the word "men" and "women" are mistranslated here. Here's why I think so. "First, all the men [in a church] would be over all the women, and in other scriptures that we read we have occasions where women are in authority over men." In the OT Deborah was a judge, for example . . ." I don't see anything in 1 Tim 2:12 that suggests men should have authority over women or their wives. Paul simply says he does not allow women teach or have authority over man. I think this was an attempt to be PC but in this case could be viewed as adding to scripture could it not? EdB |

2 | Biblical - women preachers/teachers??? | 1 Tim 2:12 | kalos | 123568
EdB: The writer quoted in my previous Note is Gregory Koukl. I have quoted him in my postings a total of 84 times. I've never once read anything of his that could be interpreted as an attempt at political correctness. I do not view his commentary as adding to Scripture. But, based on my experience with the Forum, I don't care to enter into a debate over it. Grace to you, kalos |

3 | Biblical - women preachers/teachers??? | 1 Tim 2:12 | EdB | 123578
Kalos I merely pointed it out as no where in this passage does it mention men having authority. It is only talking about women when it uses the term authority. I happen to agree with Koukl however when I or someone else took a similar reading of another passage you were quick to point out we were adding to scripture. I was just using this as a demonstration that alternate readings are not always adding to scripture. Didn't mean to offend just want to offer a vivid demonstration of the point I was trying to make in a earlier thread. Sorry if I offended EdB |
