1 | Jesus speaks as the archangel? | 1 Thess 4:16 | Jluna | 8872
In reference to 1 Thes. 4:16, Jehovah Witnesses claim that the Lord will come with the voice of the archangel, therefore making Jesus Michael the Archangel. How do I refute that? Thanks, Joseph |

2 | Jesus speaks as the archangel? | 1 Thess 4:16 | Searcher56 | 8943
Joseph ... I am sorry there is a delay, I have been busy. 1. The verse does not say that Jesus is an archangel or eve that HIS voice is the voice of an archangel. It says that His coming will be accompanied with the voice of an archangel. 2. His coming will be also accompanied with the trumpet of God... Can we follow the same logic and say that Jesus is God because He has the trumpet of God???! 3. There are many archangels in the Bible and Michael is only one of them (The book of daniel says that Michael is "one of the first principalities; and in another place the book says that He is the "principality over the People of Daniel, the people of Israel" therefore we are not allowed to expand this verses to say that Michael is Jesus. 4. When Michael the archangel faced Satan, he had no authority to command him (read the letter of Jude) while Jesus commanded Satan to leave him. One cannot build a theology from one verse or passage, especially regarding something as important as the nature of Jesus Christ. Steve |

Very true, Steve, one cannot build a system of theology on an isolated verse or passage. And here we mean, of course, a genuinely orthodox theology. But cults do it all the time. They build a cultic "non-theology" -- a scheme tailored made to suit their pre-conceived notions. If they can twist a verse here and there that seems to lend credence to their beliefs, fine, they'll use it. If not, they fly without it. And in the process they manage to delude and deceive an incredible number of people. --Hank
