Any thoughts on this program, perhaps someone is familiar with it. I was also told by someone it does not give room to Christ to actually change a persons heart??? You can check for other things I've posted here and am still in the same place, I want to change but don't know how. I've "thrust" myself into church, prayer, being active in the body, but always end up backsliding. I am also fairly versed in the bible and no amount of head knowledge has helped much either. I'm thinking I need to submit myself to a good pastor, shut up, and just do what he asks. Eight Recovery Principles based on the BEATITUDES by Pastor Rick Warren Principle 1 - Realize I'm not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable. "Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor" Principle 2 - Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to him, and that he has the power to help me recover. "Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" Principle 3 - Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ's care and control. "Happy are the meek" Principle 4 - Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself, and to someone I trust. "Happy are the pure in heart" Principle 5 - Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my character defects. "Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires" Principle 6 - Evaluate all my relationships; Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I've done to others except when to do so would harm them or others. "Happy are the merciful" "Happy are the peacemakers" Principle 7 - Reserve a daily time with God for self examination, Bible readings and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will. Principle 8 - Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words. "Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires" |

Dear strst5, We do not, of course, as believers, live by methods. Instead, we live by every Word of God. Ours is a life of relationship, not a life of technique. Relationship cannot be boiled down into steps, methods, keys, or techniques. However, it is easy for the vernacular to be influenced by the world -- and the world is always obsessed with technique. You're right to be concerned about "head knowledge." Christian truth must and should run deeper. See the above verse where Paul uses the Greek word "epignosis" meaning "deep knowledge." I frequently mention my pastor on this forum, who has been wont to say that the Truth makes itself manifest in our head, our hearts, our hands, and our habits. Might I commend you to one of the courses at the following web site: www.settingcaptivesfree.com Any one of those free tutorials will help you bridge the gap between understanding and application. In the mean time, the believers who read this post will join me in prayer for you. In Him, Doc |

Doc, Thank you for taking the time to respond. When I first read it my instinct was to ask questions as to the first two sentences, "We do not, of course, as believers, live by methods. Instead, we live by every Word of God. Ours is a life of relationship, not a life of technique. Relationship cannot be boiled down into steps, methods, keys, or techniques". This however is obviously my pride. Anyways, thank you I have checked out the website and will do some of the courses. Mike R |
