1 | Polygamy | Eph 5:22 | jashar160 | 195379 | ||
I believe that polygamy is not God's perfect will,yet He permitted it.Perhaps it is one og the things He winked at. Based on the "law of first mention" God gave Adam only one wife which sets precedent for God's plan for the family.Anyone have thoughts on Orthodox Christians practicing polygamy?Personally I don't believe polygamy is God's will. Hello Jon, I don't believe Orthodoxy in any way, shape, or form supports polygamy. A couple NT verse references should give adequate basis: 1. Eph. 5:22-28- verb in vs. 23 is singular. The comparison in vs. 25 supports a monogamous relationship. Christ did not give Himself for many churches- but one; 2. The qualifications for elders in 1 Tim. 3 and Titus 1:6 clearly define the "husband of one wife"- again implying monogamy. I trust this will help, BradK |
