1 | Jesus not Legalism!! | 1 Cor 7:15 | Lissamz | 143909
Hello Saints, I was highly surprised when I read the posts here on the subject of divorce. 1 Cor. 7 and Matt 19 and Mark 10 are places where you can get the Lord's viewpoint of divorce and remarriage. I am appalled, though, at the answers concerning women and children that are being abused and the staunch, legalistic approaches that conclude that women remain in these marriages no matter what. This is simply ridiculous. So many Christians are so far off base. You simply CANNOT understand or teach Scripture without the underlying principle of LOVE. People so easily forget the compassion, mercy, grace, and abounding LOVE, shown to them when the Lord received them. But yet, I do know that you must be grounded in more than the "Bible", you must first be grounded in LOVE- see 1Jn 2:5-6 "but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked." When I see the Lord in the Bible, I see that He is Perfectly Just and Holy, but also that He is Perfectly Loving and Merciful. I realize that it is hard for mere mortal, sinful man to "see" this and often times, the Bible becomes the means for these power and righteous driven people. Ps. 139:1-4 reads " O LORD , you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD." The LORD God Almighty knows the thoughts, but also the intents behind those thoughts. (I think some forget this one, sometimes!) He cannot be fooled or manipulated. People need to learn to love one another and stop doing the Holy Spirit's job of conviction! (Can I get an Amen?!) Let us stop trying to be GOD and love one another that the love of Christ flowing through the Holy Spirit would draw other's to want to know the love, joy, and peace we experience, that by God's mercies He might save them. Where is the focus?? On self and "knowledge" of the Bible? Or on Jesus and His love shown through the Scriptures? Remember the Scripture: Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? (Rom. 2:4) How about meditating on that Word, before posting hurtful, legalistic, self-righteous, manipulated Scriptures, absent of the LOVE of the LORD!! |

Hi Liassmz, Welcome to the Forum. I read your profile and it would appear you're bringing some major personal baggage into the discussion here. We all have experiences that impact us- both good and bad. We do have to separate personal feelings from scriptural fact- sound doctrine. Without knowing the particular post or response, it would be impossible to comment on your thoughts. Care to be a bit more specific? I wouldn't necessarily take each and every post as representative of the SBF as a whole. I think you'd agree that there is wisdom in a multitude of cousellors! As has been wisely said, this is a Study Bible Forum, so issues dealing with personal matters, etc. are best left to a Pastor or other qualified counsellor! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

3 | Jesus not Legalism!! | 1 Cor 7:15 | Lissamz | 143928
BradK, I responded to Doc, on my issue. Teaching or leading in the Word, cannot be done biblically apart from the love of God. We cannot remove God's Love from Truth, nor can we remove God's Truth from His Love. It is even hard for me to do this! I cry out to Him for help in this area, but I do know one thing- Eph. 4:15 "Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ." (NIV) "Rather, let our lives lovingly [a]express truth [in all things, speaking truly, dealing truly, living truly]. Enfolded in love, let us grow up in every way and in all things into Him Who is the Head, [even] Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)." (AMP) Love for God first through Jesus, His Son and the indwelling Holy Spirit, and next for our fellow man is our foundation, and this is totally biblical and found all throughout the Word. |

Additional note: Biblical love has nothing to do with my "feelings' or anyone elses, it is a choice of freewill. I walk by faith, not sight (or feelings for that matter.) Because my feelings aren't true, God is True. |
