1 | Love other than Agape, conditional? | 1 Cor 13:1 | Shythiyl | 167623
It is my understanding there are 5 Greek words for the word love, 4 definitions of which I can recall. Godly, marital, parental and brotherly. You state, "Agape (which I know as Godly love) is the love that expects nothing back." I can't picture "ANY" true love, as a love which expects anything back. I don't consider "love" as being conditional. I know that Agape is the only perfect love, but Searcher56, can you Please elaborate on your comment. |

2 | Love other than Agape, conditional? | 1 Cor 13:1 | Searcher56 | 167629
Erotic love or brotherly love ... we expect something back. Lust is not love, and is not erotic love (eros) ... at least I don't think so. Brotherly love is based on something we have in common. Agape is defined in this chapter, including does not seek its own.
3 | Love other than Agape, conditional? | 1 Cor 13:1 | Jorja | 167651
The definition I understand of Agape is the kind of love that says I will love you whether you ever love me or not. I swear even to my own hurt to love you and will give up my life to prove it. Agape love is an act of the will, a covenant from which there is no retreat and that leaves no room for debate. 1John 4:15-18 states God is love.In John 17:23,26 shotly before Jesus went to the cross He prayed that the world may know that you sent me and have loved them as you have loved me. So the choice is yours to partake of His covenant of love or stay on the outside and go straight to hell- either way God will love you.
