2 | The Corinthians and the Lord's Supper | 1 Cor 1:17 | EdB | 104887 | ||
Paul was addressing the proper way to take communion. Not to let it become common, habit, ritual but to keep it meaningful and with purpose. Communion should be a special time in each Christians life where we draw a little closer to Jesus. It is also a time of rememberance when we reflect on what Jesus did for us, and also on what the New Covenant made between Jesus and the Father means to us. Evidently the Corinthians had allowed it to become nothing more than another of their meals, allowing all the bad traits that we humans have to be carried over into it. Some were drunk, others were greedy, still others freeloading, and most were treating it as common, showing no reverence or serious reflection. EdB |
