NASB | 1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 1:17 For Christ did not send me [as an apostle] to baptize, but [commissioned and empowered me] to preach the good news [of salvation]--not with clever and eloquent speech [as an orator], so that the cross of Christ would not be made ineffective [deprived of its saving power]. |
Bible Question (short): John 3:1-7 how can you say it's not true |
Question (full): You ask how someone can read Mark 16:16 and say that you have to be baptized I ask how can you read it and say that you don't? Jesus told Nicodemus that he must be born of the WATER and THE SPIRIT to see the kingdom of God. Jesus also in the "Great Commision" said "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, BAPTIZING them in THE NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" (emphasis added) I am not just trying to get y'all riled up, I really want to know. Peter on the day of Pentecost said repent and be baptized EVERYONE of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye SHALL receive the gift of the holy ghost. If baptism was not a requirement don't you think that the disiples would have told Peter NO THATS NOT TRUE??? They were there too. They had been with Jesus. 1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: (1) to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge 2) to cleanse by dipping or submerging, to wash, to make clean with water, to wash one's self, bathe 3) to overwhelm; Strongs concordance for baptism is baptizo (bap-tid'-zo) meaning immerse or submerse. or definition 2 says to bathe) Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, ONE BAPTISM, (emphasis added) Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. There is no question in my mind that you must be baptized. And you say what if you do it and didn't need it? I would rather look at the scripture and say it says I need to be baptized and get baptized and make it into the kingdom than to deny it and ultimately loose my soul. The bible says in 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. This tells me two things that I am responsible for studying this for myself AND that there are 2 ways to divide the word of truth the RIGHT way and the WRONG way. I have read enough of the bible to know that baptism is a requirement not an option. Jesus died was buried and rose again, when we repent we die to sin, when we are baptized we are burying the old mand in a watery grave and when we get filled with the holy ghost (evidence speaking in tongues as, the bible promises) we are risen with Christ. I just would like to know WHY in this crazy world you would say baptism is not required? |
