Thank you Cyclist. I am sorry if my tone was wrong in my earlier question, but from what I am understanding from the first responder, and from so many others....it doesn't matter what these scriptures that you have mentioned says; once saved, always saved....if you received Christ once, you live in sin thereafter and you die in that sin, you will still inherit eternal life. I understand and try to live by the sciptures that you have referenced , yet I am having a lot of trouble explaining righteous living to the person that is justifying their right to live unholy and still go to heaven. Thanks for your insight! drummergirl |

Greetings Cleo! May I interject at this point? There are really two issues involved in your question. The first is: "How am I saved?" The second is: "How does sin affect my salvation?" In answer to the first, we know from Scripture that we are saved through faith by grace (Eph. 2:8-9). Thus, one does not have to do anything to earn salvation. Scripture specifically teaches that it is impossible to earn it - it is a gift (Rom. 6:23). The second question is related to the first. Just as one cannot earn salvation, neither can someone unearn salvation. Scripure doesn't teach that I accept Christ - now I'm a Christian. But wait, I committed a sin, now I'm not a Christian. So, I repent, now I'm a Christian again. You simply won't find that anywhere in the Bible. So, sin does not unearn salvation any more than good works earns salvation. Now, does this mean that I am free to sin? Read Paul's response in Rom. 6! Even though we are not saved by works, we are created for good works according to Eph. 2:10. We are not supposed to yield to sin any longer according to Rom. 6. What are the consequences of sin in a Christian's life? a) A rebellious heart. b) A ruined witness. c) A lack of growth. d) ect... Calvinists and Arminians disagree on whether or not a Christian can reject the gift of salvation, but we are in full agreement that we cannot 'lose' our salvation. We definitely cannot unearn it, since we didn't earn it to begin with. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
