1 | Did Stephen see the Father? | Acts 7:55 | skccab | 195307
Shalom my dear brother, Thank you, you are always such a help. What I was trying to say in my poor way is that God is coming out of the "little box" I've had Him in, and that's a very good thing. More and more, week by week, day by day I'm beginning to relate to Isaiah's vision of the Lord in Isa. 6 and to John's vision of Him in Rev. 1. It's awe-inspiring, it's frightening, it's confusing, but it's wonderful. We have such a God and He's concerned about us!! I'm sorry, I've just finished reading many prophecies about the Promised Seed, King to come and I"m awe-struck and rambling. :-) Cheri |

2 | Did Stephen see the Father? | Acts 7:55 | DocTrinsograce | 195314
Dear Cheri, The "little box" kind of deity is, of course, another idol (see post #167827). John Calvin said that we are expert idol craftsmen from birth. I guess today we'd call it being an "idol factory." When we really desire to behold the Lord God Almighty, the high places must be torn down. However, to really enter into His presence is not a pleasant experience. If we do not experience fear and awe, we are in the presence of something else, but certainly not God. His incredible holiness burns right through us, revealing our helpless vile state like nothing else (Isaiah 6:5). We want to cry out, "Go away!" (Like Peter in Luke 5:8). We begin to understand this experience of Peter, as well as Gideon (Judges 6:22), Manoah (Judges 13:22), Habakkuk (Habakkuk 3:16), and others. Nevertheless -- and talk about ambivalence! -- once we see Him, everything else becomes just so much worthless junk. Nothing is so beautiful as He. Nothing is more desirable than He. Nothing else will ever satisfy us. In Him, Doc |

4 | Did Stephen see the Father? | Acts 7:55 | stjohn | 195325
Dear Cheri, I think our Brother Doc was just pointing out, that, we all, have a tendency to put God in a box. And, giving some very good advice that we all should take to heart. We all need to come to that place where we see that we are truly vile and unworthy in the sight of our God. This is what will bring us to the Cross of Christ, only then, can we truly begin to grow. Cheri a brother said to me the other day something that I think may apply here, and I am not quoting, just paraphrasing, he said, John, I don't come to you as older, wiser, or more pious, but I come alongside, as a brother, pointing to Him. God bless John |

5 | Did Stephen see the Father? | Acts 7:55 | skccab | 195326
Shalom sweet brother, I probably shouldn't have said "little box" but I was picturing Him bursting out of the "littleness" my own mind had been keeping Him in. I don't know, maybe so that I could comprehend Him. But He's too big, He's incomprehensible! If I want to grow, I have to let Him be the Awesome God that He is. I can't apprehend Him but He can apprehend me! Am I making sense, or not being clear again? See, I wasn't putting Doc down, he's a dear. I just sometimes can't say in black and white words what's in my heart and get misunderstood. But that's ok. Thank you for helping me see this. :-) learning and loving it Cheri |
