1 | Can believers not be of God? | John 8:47 | DocTrinsograce | 137935
According to scripture, belief is gift of God (as you have pointed out) because they are drawn to Christ. "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." John 3:18

Hi, CDBJ... The verse that you mention (Mark 4:12), is the second half of a preamble Christ gives before explaining the parable of the sower (Mark 4:3-8). The preamble answers their tacit question -- which they ask again explicitly in Matthew 13:10 -- why He spoke in parables. Christ's answer is a fulfillment of prophecy (Isaiah 6:9). He spoke in parables intentionally in order that the masses would *not* understand. God only speaks "plainly" to His own (John 16:25). Christ never gave the "mystery of the Kingdom of God" on a silver platter to the whole world... for it is not for the whole world, but rather for HIs disciples alone (Mark 4:11). In Him, Doc |
