2 | Who is "he"? Why greater sin? | John 19:11 | JCrichton | 130194
Hi, Mommapbs! Truly, we are all sinners... but Jesus, who is God, has stated that there are some (or at least one) who will be held at greater accountability than the rest of humanity... Though many see this person as Judas (John 19:11), I suggest to you that it is not Judas--from what little we know about Judas we can perceive that he is not a dovote believer... at best he is at the outskirts of faith, placing greater importance on the temporal values than on Jesus' revelation of His Divinity and the true Purpose of His incarnation... Now, there is a person who, through his office, demonstrated that he was representing God and God's interests as he used his authority to persuade others to follow his lead: Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. "What are we accomplishing?" they asked. "Here is this man performing many miraculous signs. If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation." Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, "You know nothing at all! You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish." He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one. So from that day on they plotted to take his life. (John 11:47-53) Being the high priest, Caiaphas had the responsibility of searching Scripture for the truth about Jesus and of commanding a fair hearing to determine Jesus' guilt/innocence... Instead, he sealed Jesus' fate and set in motion the plan to rid themselves of the stone that had began to make them shake and stumble (Romans 9:32-33). Though Judas betrayed Jesus, he did not do so while officiating on behalf of God--Caiaphas, who claimed to be the deposit of authority and knowledge did! God Bless! Angel |

3 | Who is "he"? Why greater sin? | John 19:11 | Ray | 131165
Hi JCrichton, I agree with you about Caiaphas and the authority that he had. I also agree that compared to Pilate, Caiaphas had the greater sin. John 19:12, "As a result of this Pilate was seeking to release Him,..." John 12:53, "So from that day on they planned together to kill Him." It was Caiaphas who said that it is expedient for you that one *Man should die for the people. From the heart, Ray |

Hi, Ray! Now, isn't it wonderful!--God's Wisdom I mean. Caiaphas, totally unbeknonw to him, was rightfully prophesying about the need for One to suffer for humanity's sake (Isaiah 52:13 thru 53:12)... in his blind thirst for power he became a mere vessel for God's announcement of Christ's death! 5 | Who is "he"? Why greater sin? | John 19:11 | Ray | 131193
Hi Angel, Both you and Tim have noted today how people in the Scriptures have stated the truth without really knowing it. I believe that the Scriptures are God's word, God's wisdom; and it is because of this that I have learned to capitalize the pronouns for this One, this Man. Even though the people did not realize His deity, yet He was God in the flesh. I appreciate also your Scripture reference today. I would like to share with you some references that I have compared in my previous studying and also from today's studying. I go with the NKJ in its interpretation of Isaiah 52:13 for they have capitalized "Servant". Isaiah 52:13, NKJ, "Behold My Servant shall deal prudently [Or, be lifted up]; He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high." 14, NASB, "Just as many were astonished at you, My people, So (His) appearance was marred more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men. 15 Thus He will sprinkle many nations, kings will shut their mouths on account of Him; For what had not been told them they will see, And what they had not heard they will understand." The parenthesis around (His) appearance is mine and I offer these comparisons to you. Isaiah 53:2b, "He has no stately form or majesty That we should look upon Him, Nor appearance that we should be attracted to (Him)." Philippians 2:5, "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 9 And being found in appearance as a *(Man), He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross." Jesus came as the suffering Servant. This is the One who suffered for humanity's sake and of whom Caiaphas prophesied. Again thank you for your thoughts. From the heart, Ray |

6 | Who is "he"? Why greater sin? | John 19:11 | JCrichton | 131227
Hi, Ray! You are so correct! ...just because His contemporaries (specially the religious) did not understand that Jesus is God, it did not keep Him from being God... I find it interesting that the Pharisees, Sadducees and the Masters of the Law, got so heated up over Jesus' behavior and proclamations that they were able to recognize that He was equating Himself to God, yet instead of believing in Him the accused Him of blasphemy against God--incidentally, an offense that was punishable by death! In contrast, those who were humble and genuinely sought God, they came to Jesus because with a believing spirit as they recognized that He indeed is God (the woman with the child, the Roman Centurion, the four men with their relative on the cot, Zacheus, the woman in the crowd that touched Jesus' hem...). In Scripture God has revealed to us all that is needed to understand and believe in Him--your practice of Captalization is a wonderful acknowledgement of God's Preeminence! God Bless! Angel |
