Matthew 20:22 But Jesus answered and said, "You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?"[20:22 NU-Text omits [and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with.] ] They said to Him, "We are able." (Whole Chapter: Matthew 20 In context: Matthew 20:21-23) Matthew 20:23 So He said to them, "You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with;[20:23 NU-Text omits [and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with.] ] but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father." (Whole Chapter: Matthew 20 In context: Matthew 20:22-24) See here he was specific to the two boys that asked him and he said, you would have to drink from the cup.. which meant the suffering and death he would go through. he was more specific about dying. |

Scripture ... Matt 20:20-28, Mark 10:35-45, Acts 12:2 ... MiriamDamarisy, greetings. He wasn't talking about the cross, when Jesus said "You will indeed drink My cup." It is generally accepted that John didn't die on a cross, but a natural death. James died by the sword, not the cross (Acts 12:2). Searcher |
