1 | Was this a declaration of divinity? | Luke 4:20 | bible sandy | 8182
Did Jesus sit down on the Seat of Moses which synagogues had at this time(so I'm told)? This would have been a declaration to the people that He (Jesus) was the successor of Moses and the Christ. Is there any truth to what I've been told?

He may of sat in the chair of Moses, but Matt. 23:2 says "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat" (KJV). The NAS says chair of Moses. It should of been used for hearing cases like Moses did (Exo. 18:13-26). However, the Pharisees sat down after they stood reading the Taknah. In the context, Jesus said to obey what they said. But, not to do as they do. (choke) They did interpet Moses, deliving ex cathedra pronouncements on his teaching. But, Jesus did (Luke 24:27) do a better job. His walk matched His talk. I have heard the phrase "(Jesus) was the successor of Moses and the Christ", beacuse they were both mediators. However, Jesus never claimed his seat. He got after those who sat there whose talk did not match their talk. Moses' seat may of only been in the Temple. I say that because I'm not sure there were Pharisees in the synagogues. |
