Scripture ... Rom 6:1-7:25 ... My brother Tim, It may be semantics. We still struggle with sin, we have not beat it, otherwise we would not sin, we would be perfect. Maybe the context is bigger. What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? (6:1-2a) ... while we died to sin (6:2c), we continue to do so. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! (6:15) Then in 7:14-25. Paul says there is a conflict. We will be tempted and fall. Searcher |

Greetings Searcher! Thanks for the response my friend! I don't see Rom. 7:14-25 as normative for the Christian life. It is my view that Paul is describing himself before he was a Christian. As a Pharisee, he could not do what he wanted, but as a Christian, he has been set free from the Law of sin and death. I do agree that there is probably an element of semantics involved. But, I also tend to think that we have often downplayed the power of Christ in our lives as well. Rom. 6 seems to me to say that while we can still sin, the power of sin has been broken and we no longer have to let it be our master. Well, I have to get some sleep before I go to work. I appreciate you and your contributions to the forum my friend! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
