1 | Roman guard myth? | Matt 28:11 | JCrichton | 122289
Hi, Norrie! When I directed you to reread the passage I really meant the Biblical passage... Still, Paul Maier cite sources which still leave gaps as to the actual events that took place in regards to Jesus' tomb! What I have attempted to point out is that: 1) Romans would not allow Jewish guards outside of the Temple or religious affairs--they would open themselves up for insurgencies if zelots were to infiltrate the Temple Guard and have free reing of the territory. 2) The chief priests would not have to ask for guards; rather they would have asked for permission to allow their guards free access to Jesus' tomb. 3) The Temple Guard would most likely not be paid "piece work;" since they were part of the daily Temple activities they would have a base salary which would have been paid on a regular basis, rather then on lump sums... why would the chief priests pay them a large sum of money to undertake an assignment which could easily have been deemed extra-Temple activity?--keeping secrets for the priests would be an obligatory task for those whose livelyhood depended upon the priests' graces! 4) Why would the Roman governor care that Jewish guards fell asleep while guarding the tomb of a Jewish "no-body?" (Did you read the part, in the Bible, when the Jews sought the Romans to resolve Jesus' crucifixion?--the Romans did not have high regards for the Jews! Why would they care about the affairs of Temple sentry failing to properly guard the tomb of a dead Jew?) 5) You mentioned that the guards reported to the chief priests at discovering the empty tomb... were the guards' commissioned to guard the tomb for the Romans or for the Jews? Would it not have been logical for them to report to those who issued the commission rather to those who could have care less? 6) This final point is based on Jewish ceremonial customs: Since the Jews required that the Sabbath be respected (zip work, zip traveling, zip commerce, zip anything that would make them "unclean"), why would they post Temple guards at an "unclean" site during Sabbath? God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Norrie! Sorry you are experiencing difficulties... I have had my share... working for over 30 minutes only to lose the material while attempting to post... Since I use several Bible references my original thoughts, as well as some of the passages cited, are lost... Now I use the old "save every x minutes" rule (though at times I forget to do so!)... this has cut my loss to an acceptable minimum! So next time you post: highlight the content of the text box prior to depressing the "Preview" button (this could be also done from the "Preview page"), right click mouse, and copy; this will hold your text in temporary memory. If you lose your post, you can retrieve it to the empty text box by right clicking the mouse and pasting. (At this time you can proceed to make necessary corrections/changes before you attempt to post once again. Good luck! God Bless! Angel |

I wasn't losing posts tho that has happened before, I just had none of those symbols but it was saying I was so post wouldn't go thru. Yesterday I had same verse from every translation on Gateway to show different meanings and it said those symbols were there. There were a few from copy and pasting but I got rid of them all, then it still said they were there and there wasn't...today I didn't go above the home keys period. I think any symbol on keyboard should be allowed. There are many good links tht can't be posted because of this too. I've always had that beef here. :)

Hi, Norrie! I think part of the problem is that some of the symbols on the key-board may interfere with the command symbols of the various programs running through the servers... Perhaps there could be a program that would overide any unintentional interference but it may be too costly or cumbersome to run (slowing down the system) and would prove counter productive to a speedy exchange on the forum. Perhaps one day not only would that be a problem of the past, but, may haps, we would be able to use a variation of fonts and colors! God Bless! Angel |
