1 | How many tribulation periods in Mt. 24? | Matt 24:21 | kalos | 140078
What tribulation is Jesus talking about? Matthew 24:21 (ESV) For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. In Matthew 24, is Jesus talking about more than one tribulation period? Is there any evidence in the text that there is more than one tribulation period being mentioned? "For then there will be great TRIBULATION, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. [22] ...But for the sake of the elect THOSE DAYS will be cut short. ... [27] For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. ... [29] "Immediately after the TRIBULATION OF THOSE DAYS the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. [30] Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. [31] And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. " (Matthew 24:21, 22, 27, 29-31 (ESV)) Come now and let us reason together. Do you see more than one tribulation period in the above passage? Let us not put a question mark where God has put a period. |

2 | How many tribulation periods in Mt. 24? | Matt 24:21 | EdB | 140080
Kalos I don't think Matt 24 talks about multiple tribulations periods however it does not define the "tribulation". Some see the church age as a tribulation period. While we have been more than blessed in this nation in many nations to be a Christian costs you your life. Some see that as a tribulation. Others define the tribulation as finite period of time, classically 7 years in most cases. The question then becomes in Matt 24 is Jesus talking about a finite period of time (the classic 7 years period) or the tribulation that Christianity has faced down through the ages to the present? |

3 | How many tribulation periods in Mt. 24? | Matt 24:21 | kalos | 140082
I would suggest that there are many times in history that some would see as A tribulation. Some would see the persecution of the church under various Roman emperors as a tribulation. Some would see the Spanish Inquisition as a tribulation. Some would see the French Revolution as a tribulation. Some would see the American Civil War as a tribulation. I, personally, see the Holocaust as a tribulation -- a huge and horrible tribulation. And then there's Antiochus Epiphanes, the pogroms of Russia, World War I -- in fact, the entire times of the Gentiles (Luke 21:24), which is that long period that began with the Babylonian captivity of Judah, under Nebuchadnezzar. I could go on and on. Ed, I appreciate your input. Grace and peace be multiplied to you. Your brother, Kalos |
