1 | Can the mentally challenged go to heaven | Is 63:9 | kmmerci2 | 238901
I am in another Christian debate and the question came up and no one could answer it biblically so I would like to ask it here. Do mentally challenged people automatically go to heaven? I am not talking about those in a vegetated state but those who are slow. My sister in law is mentally challenged. She is being raised in a Catholic home so she understands Catholicism on a child's level. My husband and I both raised Catholic are not Catholic now. We have been members of the church of Christ for approx.10 years. She is strickly tuned into the mom and the mom is deep Catholic. Because my sister in law is mentally retarded mildly, will she go to heaven or not? What does the bible say on this, if anything?

Hi, kmmerci2... Welcome to the forum! Here is how we, Historic Baptists, interpret the Scriptures on this topic: "Elect infants dying in infancy are regenerated and saved by Christ through the Spirit; who worketh when, and where, and how He pleases; so also are all elect persons, who are incapable of being outwardly called by the ministry of the Word. (John 3:3, 5, 6, 8)" --1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith (Chapter 10, paragraph 3) Salvation is not a hypothetical matter. God always and effectually saves those who are His own. Which thing is a great encouragement to us, regardless of the level of our intelligence. In Him, Doc |
