1 | Shiloh again 1 Samuel 1:3 | Ps 132:7 | Retep | 154630 | ||
Dear Doc, Many thanks for the prayers and kind words. Humanly speaking it went well. Certainly I enjoyed looking into the material of the first 4 chpaters of 1 Samuel. Next week I have to present at a small gathering of older people on Sunday evening,so plan to use similar ideas. Eli and his boys were not good listeners, but the Lord always listens, and what an outcome for Hannah's prayer, the last of the judges! We need to be faithful and trust the Lord. Yours, Peter PS any thoughts about what Samuel was doing lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was? 1 Samuel 3:4. Thought in the tabernacle , no one was allowed was allowed that near. Peter. |

Dear Peter, Sad to say, Samuel must have some similar problems, in spite of his closeness to Eli's situation. See 1 Samuel 8:1-4. However, the failure being Samuel's is only speculation on my part. How about something along these lines. God will not hear or speak to those who are... Proud (Eli -- lofty) Psalm 10:17 Self-willed (i.e., quick to assert our own law) (Hofni -- pugnacious) Psalm 66:18 Deceitful (Phinehas -- mouth of serpent) Malachi 2:8,13 Just a thought. :-) I'm sure you'll do much better! Regarding the 1 Samuel 3:3 (which I believe is the verse you had in mind): Remember that the lamp was in the outer court of the tabernacle. See the sketch here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tabernakel_536x282.jpg One of their duties was to keep the lamp lit from evening until morning (Exo 27:20-21). So they must have been attending to that. Although I may be missing it, I don't see where it actually says they even slept in the inner court. Where do you see that? In Him, Doc |
